High dynamic range image signal generation and processing

An apparatus generates an image signal in which pixels are encoded in N-bit words which encode at least a luma per pixel. A receiver (201) obtains high dynamic range pixel values in accordance with a first color representation in M-bitwords. A first generator (203) includes the high dynamic range pixel values in the image signal in the N-bit words according to a second color representation. A second generator (205) includes in the image signal an indicator that high dynamic range pixel values are encoded. In some examples, the high dynamic range pixel values may be provided in a segment that can alternatively contain high or low dynamic range pixel values, and the indicator may indicate which type of data is included. The approach may e.g. facilitate introduction of high dynamic range capability into e.g. HDMI systems.

Method and apparatus for calibrating color temperature of color display devices

A method and apparatus for calibrating color temperature of color display devices aims to calibrate output bases of RGB three original color lights of a color display device so that different color display devices can radiate the same color temperature in the same color temperature settings. The method of the invention uses a colorimeter to obtain current chromaticity value radiated from the color display device in a standard color representation system and in the condition of known output bases of the current three original color light signals, and through calculation to obtain the proportional relationship of the current radiating color temperature and an objective color temperature in the same standard color representation system, and based on which to derive the output bases of the required three original color light signals corresponding to the objective color temperature to be calibrated. The results are written through the apparatus into a color profile of the color display device.

Method of full-color optical coherence tomography

Two-dimensional and three-dimensional optical coherence tomography is obtained by differential imaging of full-frame interference images using a white light source. Full-color tomographic imaging is also possible by processing the three-color channels of the interference images. A technique is described to obtain two-dimensional OCT images with full natural color representation. In a particular embodiment, the interference image is acquired using a color camera and the three-color channels are processed separately, recomposing the final image. In an additional embodiment, the interference images are acquired using separate red, blue and green light sources and the three color channels are combined to recompose the final image.

Ultrasound color characteristic mapping

An ultrasound machine is disclosed that displays a color representation of moving structure, such as a cardiac wall tissue, within a region of interest on a monitor. The color representation is generated by displaying at least one color characteristic corresponding to a movement parameter of the structure, such as velocity or strain rate. The movement parameter is mapped to the color characteristic by apparatus comprising a front-end that generates received signals in response to ultrasound waves. A Doppler processor generates a set of parameter signals representing values of the movement parameter within the structure. A control processor adaptively generates a mapping function based on the distribution of the parameter signals to map the parameter signals to a set of color characteristic signals. A display processor applies the mapped values of the color characteristic legend to the values of the movement parameter representing the moving structure, to display a color representation on the monitor in response to the mapping function.

An image is transferred from a sender to a receiver. The image is progressively re-created at a display of the receiver. First, a low-resolution full-color representation of the image is transferred. Then, a full-resolution limited-color representation of the image is sent. The pixel values of the full-resolution representation typically represent alpha-numerical characters or edges of features. The representations are combined to create a version of the image by modifying the pixels of first representation under control of the limited-color content of the spatially corresponding pixel of the second representation. The legibility of the combined image is achieved considerably faster than with conventional techniques.

High quality image processing

ActiveUS20070237404A1Efficient image processingEfficient image encoding imageCharacter and pattern recognitionImage codingColor spaceColor representation
In a high quality image-encoding scheme an input image is decomposed into several image blocks comprising multiple image elements. The image blocks are encoded into encoded block representations. Such a block representation comprises two color codewords, a color modifying codeword and optionally a sequence of color indices and color modifier indices. The color codewords define multiple discrete color representations along a line in color space. The color modifying codeword represents a set of multiple color modifiers for modifying the multiple color representations along at least one extension vector to obtain, for each color representation, a set of multiple color points. These color points of the multiple sets are located on a surface defined by the multiple color representations and the at least one extension vector. The colors of the image elements in the block are then approximated by these color points on the surface.

Method for visualizing large volumes of multiple-attribute data without aggregation using a pixel bar chart

A method for graphically presenting large volumes of data without aggregation using a pixel bar chart. Records having multiple attributes are sorted for constructing a graphically displayable array, wherein the graphically displayable array comprises a plurality of pixels. Each pixel represents one record. The non-aggregation data visualization technique of the present invention provides solutions to meet the need of automatic data preparation for the visual data mining of massive data volumes. The present invention effectively uses screen space to represent each record without cluttering the display, allowing a user to easily discover patterns and correlations. The present invention provides a visual impression by representing the value of a record by a color and representing the number of records by the area of a group. With “drill down” capability, a user can navigate through each record to find detail information. Each record is represented by one pixel, allowing millions of records to be displayed at the same time. Each individual record can be accessed interactively, by allowing direct access to the detail data by picking at single pixels.

Image processing device, image data generation device, image processing method, image data generation method, and data structure of image file

A parallax representation unit in a displayed image processing unit uses a height map containing information on a height of an object for each pixel to represent different views caused by the height of the object. A color representation unit uses, for example, texture coordinate values derived by the parallax representation unit to render the image, shifting the pixel defined in the color map. The color representation unit uses the normal map that maintains normals to the surface of the object for each pixel to change the way that light impinges on the surface and represent the roughness accordingly. A shadow representation unit uses a horizon map, which maintains information for each pixel to indicate whether a shadow is cast depending on the angle relative to the light source, so as to shadow the image rendered by the color representation unit.
