Method and apparatus for prefetching internet resources based on estimated round trip time

A method and apparatus are disclosed for prefetching Internet resources based on the estimated round trip time of the resources. Whenever a user clicks on an embedded hyperlink, the prefetching strategy aims to ensure that the corresponding document has been prefetched or can be fetched very quickly from its origin server. Web access time as perceived by the user is reduced, while also minimizing the network, server and local resource overhead due to prefetching. The estimated round trip time is obtained or approximated for all referenced documents. The “round trip” time or access time of a resource is the time interval between the sending of the first byte of an HTTP request for the resource until the last byte of the server response has arrived at the requesting Web client. Documents with the longest access times are prefetched first and prefetching generally continues until the estimated round trip time falls below a predefined threshold. An HTTP HEAD request may be used to determine the estimated round trip time of a Web resource. The prefetching agent can be configured to prevent prefetching of those documents that are quickly fetchable, dynamically generated or non-HTTP based resources, or those documents whose size exceed a certain limit, to minimize the network, server and local resource overhead due to prefetching. The thresholds applied to the list of documents to be prefetched can be dynamically adjusted by the agent, based on changing network and server conditions.

Apparatus and method for managing internet resource requests

DNS in its native form cannot identify a good or best server. Traditional Service Providers deploy a centralised approach to global traffic management based on enhancements to DNS, but do have the capability to augment this with edge-based server selection because they do not own/operate an edge network. Their resolution of DNS requests is typically restricted to identifying candidate servers within an edge domain rather than selecting the “best” server. The invention proposes a method of handling Internet resource requests whereby a local lookup server receiving a request searches for a best server able to satisfy the resource request. The local lookup server finds the best server by searching a database for a resource record associated with the best server, and then uses the resource record to retrieve an identifier of a series of executable instructions that are executed to locate the best server. The resource requests and responses may hold additional information relating to operational characteristics which may used to determine the best server. The invention proposes a DNS record type comprising a user-defined field for conveying this additional information in the resource request and in the response. The invention also proposes architecture for handling the resource request comprising a network server that provides the requested resource using the best server, as well as a communications network comprising this architecture.

System and Method of a Web Browser with Integrated Features and Controls

A web browser for Internet access distinguishes between client users and supervisory users. Supervisory users are authorized to create and/or modify local content access settings to Internet resources that are stored in a local data structure and/or a remote data structure. Client users are prevented from accessing these local content access settings. When a client user logs on, the all-in-one environment retrieves the local content access settings and connects to a predetermined remote site to retrieve additional content access control information. Modules embedded within the all-in-one environment coordinate local and remote control access settings to provide regulation, in the form of control and/or screening of the Internet resources, of the content that the client user can access. The amount of regulation afforded is readily modified through the setting of local content access settings by a local supervisor and by the selection of the remote site(s) contacted for additional content access control information. The all-in-one environment also encompasses one or more interactive agents to assist and/or entertain client users during Internet access. In some embodiments of the present invention. the all-in-one web browser is rendered to have a three-dimensional look and feel and provide unique features to enhance the web browsing experience.

Execution strategy generation method and device under cross-IDC (Internet Data Center) big data processing architecture

The invention discloses an execution strategy generation method and device under cross-IDC (Internet Data Center) big data processing architecture, and relates to the field of big data processing. According to the method, current available computing resources and internet transmission resources reported by each IDC cluster are received; on the basis of a task classification model base, optimum execution strategies of tasks are determined according to the types of the tasks; the optimum execution strategies of the tasks comprise the demanded computing resources and consumed time of the tasks; the current optimum execution strategies of the tasks are obtained through calculating according to every two of [cluster available computing resources and task data distribution] matrixes in an available resource pool and [demanded computing resources and consumed time of each task and cluster available internet resources] matrixes. Compared with the existing scheme, the technical scheme provided by the invention has the advantages that the computing and internet resources can be utilized in a high utilization rate on a big data processing platform built cross-IDC, the service quality demands of different services can be satisfied, and the flexible service extension capability is realized.
