Automated generation of local grid refinement at hydraulic fractures for simulation of tight gas reservoirs

A computer system and method of automatically generating a Local Grid Refinement (LGR) gridded model of a gas reservoir. A geologic file includes information identifying the locations of one or more wells according to root grid cells within a volume of the earth to be modeled. User inputs specify the number of hydraulic fractures from each well, and such parameters as the fracture length, etc. User inputs also specify the number of “splits” of the root grid cells containing hydraulic fractures; those root grid cells are then split into finer resolution grid cells of increasing width within the root grid cells containing the fractures. For horizontal wells, user inputs indicate the number of splits of root grid cells containing the lateral portions of the wellbore. Non-orthogonal and complex fractures are processed by a“nested” LGR approach. Geologic properties are assigned to each grid cell, with a tensorial adjustment included for non-orthogonal fractures, and the resulting model is available for simulation.

The present invention relates to methods and arrangements in a wireless communication system that enable the use of multi-codeword transmission and ACK / NACK compression with low performance loss. It also enables the use of advanced receivers of reasonable complexity. This is achieved by a solution based on the even distribution of the symbols of separately coded blocks of information bits over the available physical resources before transmission. Each physical resource will thus carry a mixture of symbols from all blocks of information bits, which results in a more similar channel quality for the blocks of information bits. A compressed ACK / NACK message corresponding to the blocks of information bits will thus be more accurate and the performance loss due to the ACK / NACK compression can be reduced.

A method for detecting symbols is provided in a communication system. Symbols are received simultaneously through multiple spreading code channels. The received symbols are detected by processing one received symbol at a time, calculating reliability metrics recursively from a symbol received through a first spreading code channel for each possibly transmitted symbol by comparing each possibly transmitted symbol with each rake receiver finger adapted to the received symbol at a time, and selecting, based on the reliability metrics, a number of most probable candidate symbols for further processing. The process then calculates reliability metrics from a symbol received through a second spreading code channel using the reliability metrics for the most probable candidates. The method utilizes effectively cross-correlation properties of the spreading codes associated with the spreading code channels.
