Trading and auction system, and methods for the authentication of buyers and sellers and for the transmission of trading instructions in a trading and auction system

A trading and auction system (10), and a method for the authentication of buyers and sellers and for the transmission of trading instructions in a trading and auction system (10) is disclosed. To register with the trading and auction system (10), a user must provide a unique identifier of a messaging-capable wireless device (22) belonging to the user. After assigning a password to the user, the trading and auction system (10) communicates the password to the user and receives a confirmation of said password from said user, with at least one of the steps of communicating the password and receiving a confirmation of the password being performed using the wireless device's messaging capability (22). The user's account or trading instruction is activated if the password is correct. The trading and auction system (10) assigns a unique identification number to each product or service for sale or auction. Messages are sent to a buyer's wireless device (22) concerning offers or bids made by that buyer in relation to a product or service, with the unique identification number of the product or service included in a ‘Sender’ field of each message. The buyer can send further trading instructions for the product by simply replying to the received message and entering a trading instruction. The trading and auction system (10) processes messages concerning a buyer's trading instructions on a product or service from that buyer's wireless device (22) by: determining the product or service by extracting and recognizing the unique identification number of the product or service from a ‘Recipient’ field of received messages; identifying the buyer by extracting and recognizing the unique identifier of the wireless device from the ‘Sender’ field of each message and parsing a text body of each message to determine the buyer's trading instructions for that product or service.

Wavelength allocation method of WDM-PON system

The invention discloses a wavelength allocation method of a WDM-PON system, which comprises the following steps: extending an OAM frame, adding wavelength management information and defining a special wavelength for sending control messages; carrying out the interaction of the control messages through wavelength management units in an OLT and an ONU and allocating upstream wavelengths and downstream wavelengths used for service allocation communication; and realizing data communication between the OLT and the ONU according to the successfully allocated upstream wavelengths and the downstream wavelengths used for the service communication. The method adds the wavelength management information into an Organization specific information TLV field by an INFO message in a discovery process of IEEE 802.3ah OAM, and other fields in the message are not modified, thus the method has clear and simple processing and flexible configuration. Hardware units in a system donot need to be modified, and processing is carried out completely depending on a software unit, thus the cost is lower. The speed and the accuracy of the data transmission of the system are greatly improved, and meanwhile, the complexity of the network operation and maintenance of the system is also reduced.

Dynamic DCH allocation methodology for packet data services in a wireless communications system

In a UMTS network, each packet data service user requires a dedicated channel (DCH) to transmit at high data rates. However, the number of DCHs available is small due to code and power limitations. Thus many users will have to be allocated the same DCH on a time sharing basis. Such sharing will not impact the quality of service for users whose applications are not delay sensitive and whose traffic generation pattern toggles between transmit and idle states. Such applications include web browsing, FTP sessions and E-mail. The present invention discloses four algorithms that can be used to dynamically allocate DCH channels to a contending user based on the user's need according to its traffic generation. One embodiment of the invention discloses a methodology of allocating user channels for packet data services in a wireless communications network, a first type channel having a given data rate and a second type channel having a lower data rate, including the steps of determining an estimated bandwidth requirement for the packet data services, switching a user to the second channel type from said first channel type if said estimated bandwidth requirement is below a first threshold, and switching a user to the first channel type from said second channel type if the estimated bandwidth requirement is greater than a second threshold. Another embodiment discloses methodology of allocating user channels for packet data services in a wireless communications network, a first type channel having a given data rate and a second type channel having a lower data rate, comprising the steps of providing an inactivity timer per user, and switching from the first channel type to said second channel type depending on a state of said inactivity timer.
