Image detecting apparatus, image detecting method, and image detecting program

An image detecting apparatus has an edit function with good operability and compatibility. When a chapter mark key on a remote control is pressed while an image reproducing system including an MPEG video decoder, a video signal post-processing circuit, a combining circuit, and an NTSC encoder is reproducing image data recorded on a recording medium, a CPU obtains information for identifying the image being reproduced and displayed, and then records the information on the recording medium. With reference to the image provided with a chapter mark, a still image generating circuit displays reduced still images, for example, so that a target image can be specified. Reproduction and editing can be performed with reference to the specified image.

Data detection in optical disk drives using decision feedback equalization

A method and apparatus in an optical disk system employing a decision feedback equalization (DFE) technique to provide a boosted signal resolution at a data slicer input while minimizing noise. In one embodiment, an optical equalizer includes a feed forward equalizer (FFE) that equalizes the signal from the optical disk and provides an equalized signal and a feedback equalizer (FBE) that generates a feedback signal. The feedback signal is subtracted from the equalized signal to provide a signal having increased resolution and low noise, which is then applied to a data slicer. In one embodiment, the boost provided by the FFE is lower than in conventional equalizers to minimize noise. As the boost of the FFE is reduced, the number of taps in the FBE is increased to provide optimized system performance.

Memory system for multisignal

Some of various multisignal (a plurality of signals except zero in the conventional binary system ) which are a variety of memories employed as signals instead of a single memory in the binary system are recorded in a medium for multisignal, by moving a recorder for multisignal to a determined position. An extractor is moved to a determined position to extract a part of the multisignal which have been recorded at that position in advance. When any change has to be made to the recorded multisignal, the change is made by the recorder. The multisignal can be used in two or more pairs as well. When processing a signal in the multisignal method in which various signals are used instead of 1 in the conventional binary system, the medium erases, writes, and corrects the signal with a machine which uses multisignal of light, magnetism, etc. that can be clearly discriminated from one another. By this method, the memory size and the speed can be increased and the cost can be lowered, and the memory can be used widely for a personal computer, a word processor, a card, an information equipment, an ATR, a VTR, a D-VTR the Internet, and many other applications.

Controlling a heat resistive element with a pulse modulated signal

The disclosure is related to pulse width modulating a power signal to a heat resistive element of a transducer. The power signal may be a power output signal of preamplifier. The power signal may be provided to a heat resistive element in a transducer that is operable to read data from or write data to a data storage medium. The pulse width modulated power signal can allow for controlling the heating of the heat resistive element based on a thermal time constant of the heat resistive element and based on adjustable components of the pulse width modulated power signal.

Method and apparatus for storing a stream of data received from a source

State-of-the art video recorders are equipped with a pause function. This function may be used in the play and record mode. When used in the record mode, no data is recorded. This is all right when only audio and / or video are recorded. However, when other data like interactive applications are recorded as well, this may lead to problems when the recording of an application is interrupted and this application is called upon in a video fragment that is recorded after resuming recording of audio and / or video. The invention has the following object. When the record function is suspended, using a pause function, only recording of audio and / or video is suspended and recording of other data is continued.
