A distributed network-attached storage network provides content distribution using conventional file transfer protocols such as NFS and CIFS. A filer proxy accepts a client request and translates the client request to a file transfer protocol accepted at the file system having the file requested in the client request. The filer proxy generates a file handle for the file containing redundant filer proxy information to be used for failover to a backup filer proxy in the event of a network error or failure of an original filer proxy. The file handle also contains information for network security purposes such as detection of forged file handles.

A method and system for automatically interconnecting IPv4 networks across an IPv6 network are disclosed. For a managed network implementing at least one logical router having centralized and distributed components, some embodiments provide a method that better supports the provision of certain network applications and/or services. The method receives at a host implementing (1) a distributed logical router and (2) a plurality of logical switches of a logical network along with other hosts, a message from a first data compute node (DCN) executing on the host. The host logically forwards the message to the distributed logical router that uses a particular anycast internet protocol (IP) address using a first media access control (MAC) address. The distributed router determines that the message requires processing by a centralized logical router (e.g., a service router, edge node, etc.) executing on an edge node host and forwards the message to the centralized logical router using the same anycast IP address and a second, unique MAC address.

The information handling system includes systems and methods for providing an anycast MAC addressing of a virtual redundancy router protocol instance that spans a plurality of aggregation switches. The invention discloses a method for realizing an Anycast-RP mechanism. The method comprises that a multicast source sends a multicast stream to an SDR; the SDR sends a packaged registration message to an RP; the RP is added with an SPT in the multicast source direction and establishes the SPT from the multicast source to a multicast receiver; the RPT is switched to the SPT and the SDR sends the multicast stream to a UDR by the SPT. The helper router contains a full routing table that can forward any packet to its destination. In a large service provider network, helper routers may be distributed at multiple locations across the network.
