InactiveUS20060099197A1Good curative effectMitigating deleterious side-effectsAntibacterial agentsBiocideMicrobial agentAnti fungal
The present invention discloses compositions and methodologies for the utilization of probiotic organisms in therapeutic compositions. More specifically, the present invention relates to the utilization of one or more species or strains of lactic acid-producing bacteria, preferably strains of Bacillus coagulans, for the control of gastrointestinal tract pathogens, including antibiotic-resistant gastrointestinal tract pathogens, and their associated diseases by both a reduction in the rate of colonization and the severity of the deleterious physiological effects of the colonization of the antibiotic-resistant pathogen. In addition, the present invention relates to the utilization of therapeutic compounds comprised of lactic acid—producing bacteria and anti-microbial agents such as antibiotics, anti-fungal compounds, anti-yeast compounds, or anti-viral compounds. The present invention also discloses methodologies for: (i) the selective breeding and isolation of probiotic, lactic acid-producing bacterial strains which possess resistance or markedly decreased sensitivity to anti-microbial agents (e.g., antibiotics, anti-fungal agents, anti-yeast agents, and anti-viral agents); and (ii) treating or preventing bacteria-mediated infections of the gastrointestinal tract by use of the aforementioned probiotic bacterial strains with or without the concomitant administration of antibiotics. While the primary focus is on the treatment of gastrointestinal tract infections, the therapeutic compositions of the present invention may also be administered to buccal, vaginal, optic, and like physiological locations.

Radiation detector head

A radiation detection camera head having a focal-plane array of pixelated detectors having constant pitch between pixels over the whole of the camera head, while using detector modules having normal production tolerances, and which can nevertheless be readily removed and replaced in the detector array by means of predetermined gaps between adjacent detector modules. The pixels on the side walls of the detector modules have reduced size to maintain constant pitch over the array in spite of production variation between modules. The reduction in sensitivity due to this reduced size is compensated for by the addition of insulated conductive bands on the side walls. The head collimator is such that the septa fall between pixels and between modules, such that head sensitivity is maintained at its optimum value.

Night sight for use with a telescopic sight

ActiveUS7051469B1Resisting parallaxSighting devicesTelescopesParallaxSpherical bearing
A night sight includes a notched bottom portion, permitting the use of a large objective lens for maximized light gathering capability while also permitting the night sight to be mounted with its center line relatively close to the center line of the barrel of the weapon with which it is used. This configuration permits the night sight to be mounted so that its center line is the same as the center line of a daytime telescopic sight used in conjunction with the night sight. The night sight includes a focusing assembly having decreased sensitivity to tilt or decenter, and a collimator mounted within a spherical bearing so that the collimator may be precisely aligned during assembly of the night sight. The night sight thereby ensures that an image viewed through the night sight appears to originate from the same angle as that with which the image entered the objective lens, and further resists a need to compensate for parallax during aiming.

Apparatus, systems and methods for diagnosing carpal tunnel syndrome

InactiveUS20060004302A1Enhance effect on nerve functionAdd flexiblyDiagnostics using vibrationsDiagnostics using pressureVenous occlusionCTS - Carpal tunnel syndrome
Apparatus, systems, and methods for diagnosing carpal tunnel syndrome (“CTS”) are provided. Pressure on the median nerve at the wrist can lead to decreased tactile sensitivity in the fingertips. People with CTS may often experience numbness, tingling, and decreased sensitivity in their finger tips. Compared to a control group, subjects symptomatic of CTS had a greater mean shift (decrease) in tactile sensitivity than the control group when exposed to certain provocations. These provocations include wrist flexion, direct pressure on the transverse carpal ligament area of the wrist, and tendon loading. Additionally, the effects of slight venous occlusion in the forearm were studied. There is an increase in threshold during the recovery period after each provocation. Diagnosis of CTS is provided through monitoring and analysis, preferably with a computer in real-time, of subject's responses to these provocations.

Receiver circuit

In double-conversion receiver circuits, higher harmonics of a first local oscillating signal SLO1 and higher harmonics of a second local oscillating signal SLO2 enter a mixing circuit that converts a first intermediate frequency IF1 into a second intermediate frequency IF2, resulting in problems in that frequency IF2 signal components that are generated by the mixture of the two signals cause decreased sensitivity. As a countermeasure, an LPF 78 is provided between a second mixer circuit 60 and a divide-by-two frequency divider circuit 76 that supplies the signal SLO2 to the second mixer circuit 60. The LPF 78 removes the higher harmonic components of the signal SLO2 that may be generated in the divide-by-two frequency divider circuit 76. Even when higher harmonic components of the signal SLO1 that may be generated in a divide-by-n frequency divider circuit 72 enter the second mixer circuit 60 through the semiconductor substrate and the like, the higher harmonic components of the second local oscillating signal SLO2 are not mixed in, and the occurrence of signal components of the frequency IF2 that result from higher harmonics being mixed in can thereby be prevented.
