34 results about "Fluid tissues" patented technology

Tissue fluid, also known as interstitial fluid, is a fluid that surrounds the cells of human beings and other animals.

Medical device for use in bodily lumens, for example an atrium

A device positionable in a cavity of a bodily organ (e.g., a heart) may discriminate between fluid (e.g., blood) and non-fluid tissue (e.g., wall of heart) to provide information or a mapping indicative of a position and / or orientation of the device in the cavity. Discrimination may be based on flow, or some other characteristic, for example electrical permittivity or force. The device may selectively ablate portions of the non-fluid tissue based on the information or mapping. The device may detect characteristics (e.g., electrical potentials) indicative of whether ablation was successful. The device may include a plurality of transducers, intravascularly guided in an unexpanded configuration and positioned proximate the non-fluid tissue in an expanded configuration. Expansion mechanism may include helical member(s) or inflatable member(s).

Liquid tissue preparation from histopathologically processed biological samples, tissues and cells

The current invention provides a method for directly converting histopathologically processed biological samples, tissues, and cells into a multi-use biomolecule lysate. This method allows for simultaneous extraction, isolation, solublization, and storage of all biomolecules contained within the histopathologically processed biological sample, thereby forming a representative library of said sample. This multi-use biomolecule lysate is dilutable, soluble, capable of being fractionated, and used in any number of subsequent experiments.

Assay catheter with pressure monitoring

An apparatus adapted to position a functional device tip, such as a sensor, in a body site having both fluid and non-fluid tissue components, in a manner that substantially mitigates the impingement of non-fluid tissue impingement on the device tip. One such apparatus can be used to both remove fluid from a tissue site, such as a site exhibiting tissue swelling, and to determine tissue pressure, using a single catheter. An apparatus can provide a pressure sensor that is adapted to be positioned and used within the tissue site itself, without substantial impingement by non-fluid tissue, and optionally also provides the ability to concurrently remove and / or deliver fluids or components thereof to or from the tissue site.

Minimally Invasive Devices for Multi-Fluid Tissue Ablation

Prostate treatment using fluid stream to resect prostate tissue, thereby relieving symptoms of conditions such as BPH, prostatitis, and prostatic carcinoma. A device having a fluid delivery element is positioned within a lumen of the urethra within the prostate. A fluid stream is directed outwardly from the fluid delivery element toward a wall of the urethral lumen. The fluid delivery element is moved to scan the fluid stream over the wall to remove a volume of tissue surrounding the lumen. The fluid may be combined with therapeutically active substances or with substances that increase resection efficiency. Fluid force may be adjusted to provide selective tissue resection such that soft tissue is removed while harder tissue is left undamaged. In order to gain a working space within the urethra, another fluid may be introduced to insufflate the urethra in the region of treatment.

Volume Sensing

Each sensor in one or more pairs of sensors is associated with a particular tissue, for example a first tissue location and a second tissue location respectively. Tissue at a particular tissue location may be solid, for example, muscle tissue, fat tissue, etc., or fluid, for example, blood, fluids associated with edema, etc. The area between the two tissue locations associated with a pair of sensors may comprise solid tissue, fluid tissue, an empty chamber, or combinations thereof. For each pair of sensors in the at least one pair of sensors, a first impedance measurement between the pair of sensors and associated with a first frequency is determined. For each pair of sensors in the at least one pair of sensors, a second impedance measurement between the pair of sensors and associated with a second frequency is determined. A comparison of a ratio of the first impedance measurement at a point in time to the second impedance measurement at a corresponding point in time may be made to determine a volume-related value associated with an area located between the first tissue location and the second tissue location.
