215 results about "Remote Access Service" patented technology

A remote access service (RAS) is any combination of hardware and software to enable the remote access tools or information that typically reside on a network of IT devices. A remote access service connects a client to a host computer, known as a remote access server. The most common approach to this service is remote control of a computer by using another device which needs internet or any other network connection.

Distance-aware service discovery mechanism for determining the availability of remote services in wireless personal area networks

The present invention refers to a method for extending replicated service discovery information for determining the availability of requested remote services in a client/server-based network environment (400), wherein each of a multiplicity of client terminals (402) is connected to a single file and/or application server (404, 405) of a specific service provider via a wireless multi-hop network which is based on a store-and-forward messaging principle, i.e. a wireless Personal Area Network (PAN) based on Bluetooth technology. Thereby, said service discovery information is needed for a selection of the optimal service provider. The method comprises the steps of providing (S1) network distance information indicating the number of intermediate network nodes (406) acting as forwarding servers for accessing remotely accessible services between a client terminal (402) and a number of file and/or application servers (404, 405) within said wireless wireless multi-hop network and selecting (S2) a requested remote service running on a file and/or application server (404) of a specific service provider at a network distance in the physical proximity of the respective client terminal (402) which can be reached from said client terminal (402) with a minimum of forwarding delay based on said network distance information.
According to one embodiment of the invention, service discovery information is dynamically adapted (S3) to information concerning varying resource availability and/or changing link characteristics within said wireless multi-hop network. In this connection, cached service discovery information is marked as active (S3a) only as long as a file and/or application server (404, 405) participates in a wireless communication session with the respective client terminal (402) and marked as inactive (S3b) after the connection between said server (404, 405) and the respective client terminal (402) is closed and a predefined time-out period has expired, thereby discarding (S3c) outdated service discovery information. According to a further embodiment, information indicating the usage of requested remote services is taken into account during the process of selecting (S2) a specific remote service.

Remote Access System and Method for Enabling a User to Remotely Access Terminal Equipment from a Subscriber Terminal

A method for enabling a subscriber terminal to remotely access terminal equipment, the terminal equipment storing identification data of the subscriber terminal, and the subscriber terminal being subscribed to a communication network and to a remote access service, wherein the method includes: receiving a request for authentication from the terminal equipment, the request for authentication including identification data of the subscriber terminal; receiving a request for access to the terminal equipment from the subscriber terminal; authenticating the subscriber terminal based on information from the communications network; forwarding the request for authentication from the terminal equipment to the subscriber terminal upon authenticating the subscriber terminal, the subscriber terminal processing the request for authentication to authenticate the terminal equipment; receiving an authentication notification from the subscriber terminal; forwarding the authentication notification from the subscriber terminal to the terminal equipment, the terminal equipment processing the authentication notification to authenticate said subscriber terminal; receiving an authentication notification from the terminal equipment; and enabling the subscriber terminal to remotely access the terminal equipment upon receiving the authentication notification from the terminal equipment.

Method and system of providing multi-user access to a packet switched network

An approach for providing multi-user access to a packet switched network via a shared Ethernet-based local area network (LAN) is disclosed. Multiple end user stations are connected to the LAN, in which each of end user stations executes a communication software. The communication software is based upon a communication protocol (e.g., Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP)) that establishes a point-to-point communication session. The end user stations generate packets based upon the communication protocol. In addition, each of the end user stations selectively encapsulates the communication protocol packets using the Ethernet-based LAN protocol. Further, attached to the LAN is a customer premise equipment (CPE), which transmits the encapsulated packets to a line terminating equipment, which according to one embodiment is a digital subscriber line (DSL) access multiplexer that is located in a central office. The line terminating equipment transports the multiple PPP sessions to a multiplexer / demultiplexer, which is located within a regional carrier's network. In one embodiment, the multiplexer / demultiplexer is an Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) switch, which simultaneously transports the multiple PPP sessions over a single permanent virtual circuit (PVC); VPI / VCIs (Virtual Path Identifier / Virtual Connection Identifier) are mapped to the multiple PPP sessions. The multiple PPP sessions are terminated at a remote access server, which recovers and forwards the packets to a backbone router. Thereafter, the backbone router forwards the packets to the packet switched network.

Method and system for remote gaming

The invention consists of a method, apparatus, and data structure that allows a player remotely located from wagering devices, such as slot machines, video lottery terminals (VLTs), etc., to make wagers on the wagering devices using funds on deposit in an account. The remote player may establish a communication link to the location where the wagering devices are housed through a remote-access service. After authentication of the player's identity, the player may be provided with a menu of available wagering devices. A wagering device computer network server, preferably coupled to video cameras, may transmit the image of the selected wagering device, or as appropriate, the video output of the wagering device, through telecommunications media, to the player. A pop-up control panel on the player's remote viewing system may provide graphical representations of the game play inputs of the actual wagering device, as well as a graphical display of current funds on account. The player may deposit money from an account directly into the wagering device via software controlled by icons in the pop-up control panel. The player then operates the selected device remotely through the graphical representations of the game play inputs in the pop-up control panel. Game play proceeds as per the attributes of the wagering device. Game play records and accounting may be kept on the wagering device, and the wagering device network server. The status of the player's current amount of money on deposit in the wagering device may be displayed on the device and transmitted to the player's remote viewing system in the video broadcast process. Upon conclusion of the gaming session, any money remaining on deposit in the wagering device may be transferred to the player's account. The invention also discloses a method, apparatus, and data structure for remote gaming. This may include a video display, a control device, a video / audio distribution amplifier, a video graphic overlay board, and apparatus for linking the video display and control device.
