Network conferencing using method for concurrent real time broadcast and distributed computing and/or distributed objects

Prior to the conference, a Concurrent Real Time and Distributed Computing / Objects Conferencing Module communicates a library of digital objects to at least one participant communications device via a distributed computing and / or distributed objects network. During the conference, the host communicates a synchronization command to the at least one participant communications device, and the synchronization command instructs the participant communications device to present a synchronized object. Then, a non-participant communicates with the host to join the conference, and in response, the host communicates a real-time object to the add-in participant communications device. Concurrently, the host analyzes a conference communications factor to determine a subsequent conference communications connection that leverages distributed computing and / or distributed objects of the conference network. Thereafter, the subsequent communications connection is established. Furthermore, the add-in participant communications device and participant communications device may communicate a synchronization acknowledgment back to the Concurrent Real Time and Distributed Computing / Objects Conferencing Module. The synchronization confirmation acknowledges a successful presentation of the synchronized object to the add-in participant and / or participant communications device.

System and method for creating screen saver

A system for creating screen savers based on video images is provided. An object image that may move around in a video image is separated from backgrounds. An MPEG-4 file of the video image is created and stored in a computer. The MPEG-4 file is uploaded from the computer to a server connected to the computer through a network. The server detects motions of the object image in the MPEG-4 file, creates a screen saver based on the detected motions, and stores the screen saver. The computer may download the screen saver stored in the server and install the screen saver on the computer, and displays the video image as the screen saver on a screen.

Fault detection for a display system

A fault detection system is provided for a display system including an AMLCD. A video processor embeds encoded fault detection data within the digital video stream that is sent directly to the AMLCD. The fault detection data is embedded in such a manner that it is not displayed by the AMLCD. The fault detection data in the digital video stream received by the AMLCD is detected by the AMLCD and is then sent back to the video processor. The video processor compares what was sent with what is received to determine whether there is a difference which may be indicative of a fault in the AMLCD or the path of the digital video stream. As an additional check, the AMLCD may send timing error data to the video processor indicating whether the AMLCD is working properly. The video processor generates and outputs a fault flag to initiate a corrective action if a fault is detected in the AMLCD and / or the path of the digital video stream.

Method of Centering an Ophthalmic Lens on a Rimless Frame

A method of centering a target ophthalmic lens presenting a known shape on a target rimless frame, includes identifying the pupillary point on the presentation lens of a presentation frame identical to the target frame, measuring the pupillary height and the pupillary half-distances of the pupillary points, identifying the optical frame of reference of the target lens, transferring the pupillary height and the pupillary half-distances onto the target lens, and deducing the centering position of the target lens. For the presentation lens presenting an outline different from the outline that the target lens will have after edging, the measurements on the presentation lens are taken in a frame of reference associated with the presentation lens, and the position of the target lens is deduced in a frame of reference associated with the target frame.

Omnidirectional Gripping Surface for Sheet Materials

A clamping device for attaching or holding a sheet material has an upper clamping surface on an upper jaw with a series of protuberances formed with at least a curved shape about a center of a sheet material clamp, and a lower clamping surface on a lower jaw member having a series of protuberances which mate with the upper clamping surface protuberances in a nesting manner, such that closing of the sheet material clamp brings the upper clamping surface and the lower clamping surfaces into a nesting juxtapositioned position, thereby capturing a sheet material between the surfaces using compression or crimping. The pattern of protuberances may be concentric circular protuberances, other closed geometric protuberances, or semi-circular with rounded or tapered ends to avoid presentation of a sharp edge to a clamped sheet material.

Apparatuses and Methods for Determining Permittivity in Downhole Locations

To process geological log data, a two-dimensional set of log values recorded at a plurality of points is obtained about a borehole periphery, and over a chosen length along the borehole. The set of log values are decomposed by identifying in the set one or more main functions indicative of one or more main geological layer features of the rock penetrated by the borehole and removing log values corresponding to values of the main functions from the set of log values. Further decomposing the set of log values can be performed, as necessary iteratively, based on one or more subsidiary functions. The log values of the set remaining after identification and removal of values are designated as texture. Functions indicative of the main and subsidiary layer features and the texture are used to construct a synthesised volume representing the rock removed during creation of the chosen length of the borehole.

Apparatus and method for processing data relating to events on a network

A network management apparatus and method processes network management data received during the monitoring of a network and generates events for presentation in an event list to a user when certain event conditions are detected. Network management data received in relation to an event condition is processed to determine whether it represents a recurring event condition. A recurring event condition is determined if a predetermined number of equivalent events have been generated, and appear in the event list, in an immediately preceding time period. In the described embodiment, if a recurring event condition occurs, a recurring event is generated, and subsequent occurrences of the event condition are not included in the event list presented to the user.
