System and method for integrating and validating genotypic, phenotypic and medical information into a database according to a standardized ontology

The system described herein enables clinicians and researchers to use aggregated genetic and phenotypic data from clinical trials and medical records to make the safest, most effective treatment decisions for each patient. This involves (i) the creation of a standardized ontology for genetic, phenotypic, clinical, pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic and other data sets, (ii) the creation of a translation engine to integrate heterogeneous data sets into a database using the standardized ontology, and (iii) the development of statistical methods to perform data validation and outcome prediction with the integrated data. The system is designed to interface with patient electronic medical records (EMRs) in hospitals and laboratories to extract a particular patient's relevant data. The system may also be used in the context of generating phenotypic predictions and enhanced medical laboratory reports for treating clinicians. The system may also be used in the context of leveraging the huge amount of data created in medical and pharmaceutical clinical trials. The ontology and validation rules are designed to be flexible so as to accommodate a disparate set of clients. The system is also designed to be flexible so that it can change to accommodate scientific progress and remain optimally configured.

Health information transformation system

Methods, computer systems, and computer readable media for transforming raw healthcare data into relevant healthcare data are provided. Transformation of raw healthcare data into relevant data is accomplished by receiving raw data from a plurality of disparate data sources, indexing the data, and mapping the data. Embodiments transform raw data into relevant data through the use of natural language processing, synonymy and ontology mapping, and adaptive knowledge processing. The relevant data is stored in a one record that includes information necessary to understand and represent that patient.

Multi-user system for creating and maintaining a medical-decision-making knowledge base

A multi-user system for creating and maintaining a knowledge base is implemented on a variety of computer systems, including single-user personal computers, networked personal computers, and data communications networks, including the Internet. The system has a graphic user interface which can be easily learned by non-programmers. The knowledge base is displayed as a hierarchical multiplicity of nodes, in which each node is related to one or more superior nodes. Title of text, rules, references, and attributes associated with each node are displayed, and may be modified. Simulation is used to verify the knowledge base once generated. Data may be extracted from the bases in the form of hard-copy books, databases for downloading into Web browsers, and databases for downloading into hand-held computers including a multiplicity of grids, and a multiplicity of branches in the form of a logic tree. The user may choose one of the alternative display formats, and the hierarchy can be displayed in either collapsed view or expanded view. Interference between two or more users accessing the system concurrently is prevented by a locking and authorization subsystem, which also prevents unauthorized access to the environment. The system provides an organization of workflow into a multiplicity of development stages. Each such stage has associated with it an authorization level, developers working on the system concurrently are limited by these levels to access only particular stages and levels of development.

Implantable medical device management system

A suite of applications is provided for the administration of implantable medical devices, particularly implantable therapeutic substance infusion devices. The applications may be accessed over a public network, such as the Internet, and may be run using middleware. The applications provide for the administration of medical devices as they pertain to a particular patient, the ordering of therapeutic agents from participating third-party dispensaries, the scheduling of device maintenance and explant events, and the review of literature and educational materials pertaining to a particular medical device or class of devices.

System and method for optimized dietary menu planning

A dietary menu planning system. The dietary menu planning system receives personal characteristics and food preferences for an individual. The personal characteristics includes a desired physiological rate of change for the individual. Based on the physiological rate of change and other personal characteristics, a set of dietary constraints is developed for the individual. A dietary menu plan is created for the individual including food items selected by the individual and with quantities determined to maximize the food preferences of the individual while satisfying the dietary constraints. The creation of the dietary menu plan includes applying an optimization function to maximize the food preferences. The dietary menu planning system is implemented as a stand-alone application for a computer or as a networked-system, for example, as a fee-for-service basis through the Internet.
