System and method for data routing

The present invention provides a data processing apparatus and method for a telecommunications system, the apparatus being operable to pass data packets between a first interface connectable to a first transport mechanism and a second interface connectable to a second transport mechanism. The data processing apparatus comprises a plurality of processing elements including the first and second interfaces, and operable to perform predetermined control functions to control the passing of data packets between the first and second interfaces, predetermined connections being provided between the processing elements. A plurality of buffers are provided, with each buffer being operable to store a data packet to be passed between the first and second interfaces, and a plurality of connection queues are also provided, each connection queue being associated with one of the predetermined connections, and being operable to store one or more queue pointers, each queue pointer being associated with a data packet by providing an identifier for the buffer containing that data packet. Each processing element is then responsive to receiving a queue pointer from an associated connection queue to perform its predetermined control functions in respect of the associated data packet, whereby the passing of a data packet between the first and second interfaces is controlled by the routing of the associated queue pointer between a number of the connection queues.

Method and apparatus for separation of isobaric interferences

This invention relates to a method and apparatus for separation of rare stable or radioactive isotopes from their atomic or molecular isobars in mass spectrometry (MS). In the present invention, the approach taken to removing atomic isobars utilizes a high transmission device for decelerating ions in combination with low energy reactions, such as ion-molecule reactions or near resonant electron transfer, in RF ion guides. The isobar is selectively depleted by electron transfer or other reactions between negative ions and gaseous targets in pressurized RF ion guides at low energies. The energy is controlled in such a way as to prevent reaction of the ion of interest while inducing reactions with the undesired isobar interference. The technique is of particular relevance to accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) for which it allows substantial reductions in the necessary terminal voltage. The effect is to allow reductions in the size and cost of AMS installations.

Data processing apparatus

A data processing apparatus, and in particular to a data processing apparatus for use in a telecommunications system is disclosed which seeks to provide an improved technique for handling asynchronous events in a synchronous processing environment. The data processing apparatus comprises a data processing unit operable to process data from a synchronous data stream. The data processing apparatus also comprises conversion logic operable to receive an asynchronous event for processing by the data processing unit, the conversion logic being further operable to create event data representing the asynchronous event for transmission in the synchronous data stream. Providing conversion logic which converts an asynchronous event into event data transmissible within the synchronous data stream enables the data processing unit, when operating in a synchronous environment, to handle the asynchronous event in the same manner as any other synchronous data it may receive. Hence, the operation of the data processing unit can be effectively decoupled from the asynchronous event, the occurrence of which may undesirably affect the performance of the data processing unit.

High frequency electronic component

A high frequency electronic component includes a switch and a balun. The switch performs switching between a first transmission signal in the form of an unbalanced signal received at a first input port and a second transmission signal in the form of an unbalanced signal received at a second input port, and outputs one of the first and second transmission signals from an output port. The balun converts the transmission signal in the form of an unbalanced signal outputted form the output port of the switch to a transmission signal in the form of a balanced signal, and outputs this signal to a balanced input power amplifier.

Even when an amplifier has a comparatively narrow linear region in a terminal, it is possible to suppress degradation of the transmission characteristic by using single-carrier transmission between the terminal and a relay device while using multi-carrier transmission between the relay device and a base station on an uplink of a communication system. The relay station (1) includes: a single-carrier signal receiving portion (12) which receives a single-carrier signal from the terminal and performs signal processing; a converting portion (13) which converts a time region symbol output from the single-carrier signal receiving portion (12) into a frequency domain symbol; and a multi-carrier signal transmitting portion (14) which makes the symbol converted by the converting portion (13) to be a multi-carrier signal and transmits the multi-carrier signal to the base station.

Gaming machine

In a gaming table (1), image light L1 emitted from a display surface of a liquid crystal module (2) that carries out a dual image display arrives, directly through a window of a frame (4b), at a player in front of the gaming table. Image light L2 emitted from the display surface of the liquid crystal module (2) is reflected by a reflecting surface of a mirror member (3) so as to also arrive at the player through the window of the frame (4b). The player recognizes a first image formed from the image light L1 and a second image formed from the image light L2. Thus, the first and second images are supplied to the player as a background image on the gaming table (1). This makes it possible to realize a gaming machine having a display device that can display a large screen and can reduce the size and cost of the gaming machine.
