A method and apparatus for managing a buffer of a Radio Access Station (RAS) in a communication system are provided. An available buffer space determiner sets a threshold for each service class for scheduling packet input/output of the buffer according to priority of a service class, estimates and stores, upon receipt of a packet at the buffer, an available space size of the buffer after the packet reception, compares the estimated available space size of the buffer with a first threshold corresponding to a first service class indicative of a service class of the packet, and schedules packet input/output of the buffer according to the comparison result. A processor module schedules packet input/output of the buffer according to an output of the available buffer space determiner. The present invention can improve quality of services through service differentiation based on priorities of service classes and buffer management based on characteristics of the corresponding service traffics.

Provided are a method and a system for transmitting mobile IP packets without loss. The method includes the steps of storing, by an old radio access station, packets that are not transmitted to a mobile terminal when a handover indication message is received, and creating, by the old radio access station, a tunnel to a new radio access station, and transmitting the stored packets to the new radio access station via the tunnel when a link-layer handover procedure is completed. Thus, upon the handover of the mobile terminal, IP packets directed to the old access control router and the old radio access station are stored in the buffer and then transmitted via the tunnel after the handover, thereby preventing loss of packets during the handover. A terminal hand-off apparatus in a wireless broadband Internet system and a terminal hand-off method in the system includes a connection processor and a hand-off processor. The connection processor predicts a movement direction using a current position of the terminal in communication with a counterpart terminal using a predetermined Internet Protocol (IP) address, and requests an IP address to be assigned upon entering a coverage area of at least one of a plurality of Radio Access Stations (RASs) located near the predicted movement direction. A method and apparatus of allocating downlink power in a radio access station system are disclosed. The method of allocating transmission power to a plurality of terminals in a radio access station system according to the present invention includes (A-1) calculating an allocation power for the respective terminals based on downlink quality information of the respective terminals; (A-2) calculating a minimum requirement power for the respective terminals based on the downlink quality information; and (A-3) allocating the transmission power by distributing part of excess power of a first terminal group having the allocation power higher than the minimum requirement power to the second terminal group having the allocation power lower than the minimum requirement power, and the part of excess power is a sum of insufficient power of the second terminal group. As a result, the loss of the quantity of service transmission of the radio access station is reduced and service areas can be expanded.

A serving radio access station (S-RAS) and an access control router (ACR) divide and buffer packets to be sent to a mobile station before and after a predetermined message exchange process. The Access control router (ACR) sequentially tunnels a packet buffered in the serving radio access station (S-RAS) and a packet buffered in the Access control router (ACR) into a target radio access station (T-RAS) when a handover for the mobile station is completed. Since an unnecessary buffering operation is not performed in the Access control router (ACR) and the radio access station (RAS), a resource waste may be avoided.

Disclosed is an apparatus and a method for implementing efficient redundancy and an expanded service coverage in a Radio Access Station (RAS) system. In the RAS system, if the main processor unit generates switching control signals in response to the sensed failures on sensing a failure in any of the channel cards and the transceivers or a failure in any of the high-power amplifiers, all supporting M (i.e., the number of FAs equal to or more than three) and K (i.e., the number of sectors equal to or more than three), between the transceivers and the predetermined Time Division Duplex (TDD) switches connected to the antennas, the RF switch unit switches a path based on the generated switching control signals so as to substitute the failed module either by one additional redundancy transceiver per M and K or by one additional redundancy high-power amplifier per M and K. As a result, an efficient N+1 redundancy structure is embodied.

The present invention relates to a system and method of routing packets using an IP address in portable Internet, in which an individual IP address is given to a portable Internet terminal attempting to access the portable Internet via a certain radio access station, thereby routing packets without interruption of a packet data service using the IP address. According to the present invention, in a portable Internet system, a routing path for the packet data service is updated in real time using an IP address given to a respective portable Internet terminal while the terminal is moved, thereby continuously using the packet data service without an interruption in the service while the terminal freely moves to a different radio access station. Also, an interface between a radio access station and an access control router system is embodied as an L2 switch to perform real-time packet routing by combining routing and switching technologies, thereby reducing a load for routing packets, quickly routing packets, and reducing a loss of packet data.

An IPv6 address configuration method for a terminal in a wireless mobile network and an apparatus therefor are provided. In the wireless mobile network, an Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) address configuration apparatus is provided to a router (access control router; ACR) or a base station (radio access station; RAS). In the address configuration apparatus, a MAC access procedure is performed to extract information required for IPv6 address allocation procedure, and the address is configured by using available fields of a message. In addition, a duplicate address detector (DAD) in which the terminal directly takes part is omitted by using information on the router (ACR) or the base station (RAS). In addition, during the IPv6 address configuration procedure, in order to prevent messages of IPv6 from being transmitted in a wireless region, an agent for address configuration is provided to the terminal. The router (ACR) acquires information required for the address configuration by using a portion of fields of MAC management messages. Accordingly, in the wireless mobile network, it is possible to reduce a time taken for an initial access procedure in which an IPv6 address is allocated to the terminal and to reduce consumption of wireless resource.

Provided are a broadband wireless access communication system, and a method for assigning a frequency assignment (FA) to a newly accessing portable subscriber station (PSS) when a radio access station in a portable Internet system serves a number of FAs. The method for assigning a FA includes the steps of: receiving a connection request signal from a PSS through a primary FA; acquiring a MAC address of the PSS in a connection initialization process with the PSS; acquiring information on the number of available FAs in a sector receiving the connection request signal; determining a FA for the PSS based on the MAC address and the number of the FAs; transmitting the determined FA information to the PSS; and changing the FA of the PSS from the primary FA to the determined FA.

The present invention relates to a wireless communication system, and more particularly, to a frequency reusing method for efficiently transmitting traffics in a radio access station system. A frequency reusing method in a wireless communication system including a coverage region, which has first, second and third regions comprises (a) transmitting traffics by assigning a total frequency band, which includes different three sub-frequency bands, to the first, second and third regions during a first interval; and (b) transmitting the traffics by respectively assigning the different three sub-frequency bands to the first, second and third regions during a second interval.

The method comprises calculating an action time based on a time when a handover confirmation message is received from a serving Radio Access Station (RAS), in a target RAS; and transmitting a fast ranging information message to a mobile station on the basis of the action time.
