A device management system enables management of firmware, provisioning, and configuration information updates to of a plurality of mobile electronic devices via a wireless communication network. A user self-care interface allows subscribers to interact with the device management system to identify problems in the mobile electronic devices, and to schedule updates, via a web-based interface. Delivery of updates to the mobile electronic devices is managed so as to maintain device management system loading at acceptable levels, within scheduling constraints.

The present invention allows computer users to integrate any annotation, including ink, highlighter, text-based notes and audio, directly into a Web-based document (WBD) displayed by a Web browser. This integration enables others to view the personalized annotated WBD, which retains its original active links and properties, over the Internet without the need for specialized software. Annotations are integrated into WBDs by freezing the WBD, overlaying an image file containing the annotations onto the WBD, and enabling browser events to pass through the image layer. Annotations may also be integrated into WBDs by using component object technology. The present invention collects and organizes annotated WBDs, and provides users with an intuitive Web-based interface for accessing, viewing and searching the annotated WBDs. Users may annotate blank WBDs, effectively converting their Web browsers into online notebooks/ scrapbooks. The present invention also provides users with many novel interface techniques, such as dog-ears and its associated navigation tools, splitting pages, turning pages, selecting and copying various portions of a WBD (including shaking out a copy), and marking menus suited for right-handed or left-handed users.

Consider a user who has three different types of email account. Previously, in order to access those different email accounts the user has had a terminal with three desktop applications, one for accessing each type of email account. The user has been unable to access all of his or her email accounts simultaneously. Instead, the user has had to connect, for example, using a RAS connection, to one of the email accounts and then terminate that RAS connection before initiating a new RAS connection to the next type of email account. This is time consuming and problematic for users, particularly those who travel frequently. Another problem is that the user must maintain software applications on his or her terminal, one for each of the different types of message account. This takes up valuable memory and processing capacity on the user terminal. The present invention removes these problems by providing a single web based interface that gives the user access to a plurality of different message accounts on different message servers. In addition, logon times and network bandwidth requirements are reduced by storing retrieved message information in a cookie on the user's terminal.

A computer system and method is disclosed for collecting resource rate information associated with a plurality of resource profiles and providing resource rate statistical data for a specific resource profile via a web-based interface. Each resource profile is defined from hierarchical profile selections to identify a job category, and each job category has one or more skills associated therewith. A database maintains the resource profiles and associated resource rate information. The resource rate information is collected from a variety of sources, including business entities that interface with the database to upload actual resource rate information (e.g., actual salaries, wage rates and other compensation information) for one or more resource profiles associated with the business entity.

A method of verifying a user identity using a Web-based multimodal interface can include sending, to a remote computing device, a multimodal markup language document that, when rendered by the remote computing device, queries a user for a user identifier and causes audio of the user's voice to be sent to a multimodal, Web-based application. The user identifier and the audio can be received at about a same time from the client device. The audio can be compared with a voice print associated with the user identifier. The user at the remote computing device can be selectively granted access to the system according to a result obtained from the comparing step.

The present principles provide systems and methods for detecting robot-access of a web-based interface by utilizing a minimum expected human response time (MEHRT) to complete a pre-determined task. After a user is prompted to complete the pre-determined task, a user-response time is calculated. The user-response time is compared to the MEHRT and if the user-response time is less than the MEHRT, then the system determines that the user is a robot. Additionally and/or alternatively, the MEHRT may be employed to impose a time penalty on robots and thereby deter robot access of the interface. The time penalty may be imposed by preventing a user from completing the pre-determined task until the MEHRT has passed.

A method and apparatus for transferring data between IP devices (including, but not limited to, Gigabit Ethernet devices) and SCSI or Fibre Channel devices. The device interfaces may be either SCSI, Fibre Channel or IP interfaces such as Gigabit Ethernet. Data is switched between SCSI and IP, Fibre Channel and IP, or between SCSI and Fibre Channel. Data can also be switched from SCSI to SCSI, IP to IP and FC to FC. The port interfaces provide the conversion from the input frame format to an internal frame format, which can be routed within the apparatus. The amount of processing performed by each port interface is dependent on the interface type. The processing capabilities of the present invention permit rapid transfer of information packets between multiple interfaces at latency levels meeting the stringent requirements for storage protocols. The configuration control can be applied to each port on a switch and, in turn, each switch on the network, via an SNMP or Web-based interface, providing a flexible, programmable control for the apparatus.

A system and method directed to controlling work flow for a document is disclosed. The system comprises a document control module comprising a document engine and a document portion, a workflow control module for tracking and assigning work on the document portion, and a Web-based interface coupled to the document control module and the workflow control module. The system is configured to couple to a remote host over a network such as the Internet. Preferably, the document is automatically formatted to include XML tags, which allows the document to be searched and otherwise controlled more easily. Preferably, the system also comprises a search engine for searching through the document portion using a variety of search criteria. A web-based hosted solution through which business entities create and manage communications campaigns, such as interactive campaigns that afford target recipients an opportunity to be connected to a third party call center. A web interface is provided to enable a business entity customer to create a set of one or more rules that, when triggered during the campaign, cause the hosted solution to take certain control actions in real-time, based on campaign performance. Preferably, this “campaign performance” is measured indirectly, i.e. without requiring a direct connection to an on-premises call center ACD. Embodiments may generally include an IP portal system having a portal interface to receive inputs from users and to provide output to users and a database interface to transmit and receive information to and from a silicon IP database and an IP file system. Embodiments of the system may also include a secure access layer (HTTP tunnel, firewall, or proprietary secure access protocol) to securely communicate information and an internal interface protocol and an external interface protocol and the secure access layer. The internal interface protocol may authorize and encrypt communications to an internal user or design system and the external interface protocol may authorize and encrypt communications to an external user or design system. The portal interface may be a Web-based interface and schema-based in some embodiments.

The apparatus and method of the present invention provides accurate consumption and efficiency data for a given system by taking into account many of the external factors described. The apparatus receives inputs from a number of different sources including environmental sensors, utility meters and other device sensors.
