A wireless distribution system (WDS) is a system enabling the wireless bridging of access points in an IEEE 802 network. It allows an extended network to be created using wireless IEEE 802.11 (Wi-Fi) access points without the traditional requirement for wires to link them. The notable advantage of WDS over other solutions is that it preserves the MAC addresses of client frames across links between access points, thus mixtures of ethernet and WDS connections can be treated as a single network.

Wireless mesh point portable data terminal

A portable data terminal (PDT) adapted to participate in a wireless mesh network including a plurality of peer PDTs can comprise: a PDT module including an encoded information reading (EIR) device, and a mesh point (MP) module communicatively coupled to the PDT module. The MP module can include a microcontroller and at least one wireless communication interface and can be configured to perform IEEE 802.11-conformant wireless station services including authentication, de-authentication, privacy, and MAC service data unit delivery, and IEEE 802.11-conformant wireless distribution system services including association, disassociation, distribution, integration, and re-association. The MP module can be further configured, responsive to receiving a MAC frame addressed to a recipient inside the wireless mesh network, to deliver the MAC frame using the distribution service. The MP module can be further configured, responsive to receiving a MAC frame addressed to a recipient outside of the wireless mesh network, to deliver the MAC frame using the integration service. The MP module can be further configured to route an incoming MAC frame according to its destination address and the frame control field. The MP module can be further configured to cause the PDT module to exit said sleeping state responsive to receiving a mobile management software (MMS) wake-up command.

Method of automatically constructing wireless distributed system

The invention discloses a method for automatically constructing a wireless distribution system, which is used for automatically constructing the wireless distribution system under the circumstance that a plurality of access points do not need user configuration and comprises the steps as follows: the access points continuously broadcast detection frames of the wireless distribution system (WDS) that contain MAC address of the access points; WDS detection frames from other access points are monitored and MAC address is resolved to establish data links; the access points are checked to confirm if the access points are gateways, if so, the access points are configured to be a DHCP server, otherwise, a local area network is checked to confirm if the DHCP server exists in the local area network; if the DHCP server exist in the local area network, a DHCP client is started; if the DHCP server does not exist in the local area network, the access points are configured as the DHCP server; at the same time, that whether other DHCP servers are accessed into the network is detected; if so, the DHCP server of the access points is shut off and the DHCP client is started. The method of the invention can realize the connection of the wireless distribution system, without manual setting by the user.
