A near field antenna adapted to an object detecting device, for sensing a plurality of units under test of at least an object under test. The near field antenna comprises a periodic guided-wave structure, a metallic reflection portion and at least two near field magnetic coupling antennas. The periodic guided-wave structure disposed below the object under test has a plurality of conductive units periodically arranged on a first plane. The metallic reflection portion is disposed under the periodic guided-wave structure to form an enclosed space. The near field magnetic coupling antennas are disposed on a second plane parallel to the periodic guided-wave structure, and are located in the enclosed space. The feed point and the ground point of each near field magnetic coupling antenna are fed by a coaxial cable with a feeding direction parallel to the periodically arranged conductive units.

The wireless electrostatic charging and communicating system includes an electrostatic reader, an electrostatic charger and an electrostatic rechargeable device or electrostatic transceiver such as such as a smart card or radio frequency identification (RFID) card without requiring physical contact to electrodes. The electrostatic system is capacitance based and the charging and communicating occurs over capacitively coupled electrostatic electrodes or electrostatic electrodes. The electrostatic rechargeable device or transceiver includes a charge receiver and an energy storage means, for being charged or communicated with in the electrostatic system. An electromagnetic coupling module includes a wireless IC chip and a functional substrate. The electromagnetic coupling module is mounted on a radiation plate, preferably using an adhesive, for example. On the upper surface of a base material of the radiation plate, two long radiation electrodes are provided. On the undersurface of the functional substrate, capacitive coupling electrodes that individually face inner ends of the radiation electrodes are provided. A matching circuit arranged to perform the impedance matching between the wireless IC chip and each of the radiation electrodes includes the capacitive coupling electrodes. As a result, it is possible to reduce the size, facilitate the design, and reduce the cost of a wireless IC device.

A multi-mode RFID tag includes a power generating and signal detection module, a baseband processing module, a transmit section, a configurable coupling circuit, and an antenna section. In near field mode, the configurable coupling circuit is operable to couple the transmit section to a coil or inductor in the configurable coupling circuit to transmit an outbound transmit signal using electromagnetic or inductive coupling to an RFID reader. A system providing an inductive power and data link between an external transmitter and miniature internal receiver is presented. The system is suited to applications where the receiver must be of a small size and the system must consume very little power, such as an implanted biomedical device. The system is also compatible with systems where bi-directional communications are required. The novel transmitter and receiver form an improved forward data telemetry system. The transmitter consists of a Class-E converter with its optimum operating frequency being synchronously, instantaneously and efficiently altered in accordance with the data to be transmitted, thereby producing an FSK modulated magnetic field of substantially constant amplitude. The constant amplitude output allows for the continuous, data-independent transfer of power to the miniature receiver and its associated electronics. The present invention also represents an improvement over the high efficiency Class-E converters previously patented by the inventors. The receiver consists of a coil and an integrated rectifying system to recover operating power from the incident magnetic field, as well as an FSK demodulator whose operation is based on the multiphase comparison of charging times of integrated capacitors. The described FSK demodulator approach removes deleterious effects resulting from low-frequency changes in the transmitter frequency, and eliminates time distortion artifacts generated by circuit imbalances and asymmetries in the power recovery process. The combination of the transmitter and receiver improvements yields a reliable data transfer system unaffected by circuit imbalances and incidental variations in the amplitude and frequency of the magnetic field.

A transmitter system for wireless communication with implanted medical devices includes a transmitter circuit having a resonant network the resonant frequency of which is adjusted by a feedback circuit in order to minimize the current drain from the power source and maximizing the power source life. The transmitter system may be powered by a power supply block which uses commonly available RS-232 signals of a host computer as a raw power source, combined with a high value storage capacitor to provide power for the wireless medical data programmer. A feedback circuit monitors the charging current as well as voltage impressed across the storage capacitor in order to maintain the charging current at maximum level during the charging time and in order to stop the charging once the full charge of the storage capacitor has been reached.

The invention relates to a directional coupling communication apparatus where the coupling impedance can be easily matched to reduce reflections, and thus, the speed of communication channels is increased as compared to that with inductive coupling, and at the same time, the reliability of communication is improved by increasing the signal intensity. Modules having a coupler where an input/output connection line is connected to a first end, and either a ground line or an input/output connection line to which an inverse signal of a signal to be inputted into the input/output connection line connected to the above-described first end is inputted is connected are layered on top of each other so that the couplers are couplers to each other using capacitive coupling and inductive coupling.

One aspect of the present invention is generally directed towards a system and method of tuning a transducer for transmitting and receiving a wireless signal. In an illustrative embodiment, a single transducer is coupled to a first or second circuit for either transmitting or receiving, respectively. Generally, electrical characteristics of the first circuit are adjusted to increase a magnetic field generated by the transducer. Conversely, electrical characteristics of the second circuit are adjusted to increase a signal generated by the transducer for receiving a magnetic field. Accordingly, a single transducer device can be tuned for either transmitting or receiving a corresponding wireless signal.

The electronic apparatus includes a portable electronic device and a charger for capacitively charging the portable electronic device when the portable electronic device is temporarily placed adjacent the charger. A transmission system in a downhole component comprises a plurality of data transmission elements. A coaxial cable having an inner conductor and an outer conductor is disposed within a passage in the downhole component such that at least one capacitor is disposed in the passage and having a first terminal coupled to the inner conductor and a second terminal coupled to the outer conductor. Preferably the transmission element comprises an electrically conducting coil. The human body communication system includes a controlled device measuring a capacitance that corresponds to the distance to a human body, and transmitting information on the measured capacitance through a wireless medium; and a control device receiving the information, and then, based on the information, determining a transmission power and, with the determined transmission power, transmitting a control command of a user to the controlled device using the human body as a medium.

A wireless IC interconnect system and method facilitates interconnections between first and second IC locations via a wireless transmission medium; the IC locations may be on the same chip or on separate chips.
