Coatings for Electrowetting and Electrofluidic Devices

Electrowetting devices coated with one or more polymeric layers and methods of making and using thereof are described herein. The coatings may be formed in a single layer or as multiple layers. In one embodiment the first layer deposited serves as an insulating layer of high dielectric strength while the second layer deposited serves as a hydrophobic layer of low surface energy. These materials may themselves be deposited as multiple layers to eliminate pinhole defects and maximize device yield. In one embodiment the insulating layer would be a vapor deposited silicone polymeric material including, but not limited to, polytrivinyltrimethylcyclotrisiloxane or polyHVDS. In another embodiment the insulating layer may be a vapor deposited ceramic such as SiO2 with very little carbon content. In a further embodiment the insulating layer may be composed of alternating layers of a siloxane material and a ceramic material.

Shock absorber with adjustable valving

A shock absorber includes a shock rod and piston which are disposed within a fluid chamber within a shock body. The piston separates the shock body fluid chamber into a compression fluid chamber and a rebound fluid chamber. A reservoir fluid chamber accommodates the entry of the shock rod into the fluid chamber as the shock absorber compresses under shock forces. The compression fluid chamber is in fluid communication with the reservoir fluid chamber through a third chamber or passage. A first valve may control passage of fluid from the compression fluid chamber into the passage. Second and third valves may be disposed within the passage in parallel with each other and in series with the first valve. The third valve may include an easily accessible knob disposed outside the shock body.

Flexible integration of software applications in a network environment

A software application for integration into a picture archiving and communications systems (PACS) network is described. The software application is provided as a single software component using model-view-controller software architecture. The software component's interface is used to expose predominantly only functional parts of a stand-alone version of the software application to a system integrator. The interface provides a set of user interface control parameters and a set of data handling parameters. These allow a PACS network provider to integrate the software application easily by generating a suitable graphical user interface for the application which can be configured to match the ā€œlook and feelā€ desired by the network provider. This can be done in a way which does not require the PACS network provider to have a deep understanding of the technical functioning of the software application.

Detachable hydrofoil trim tabs for use with seaplane floats for assisting with lower speed on-plane condition and stability during step turning/chine walk manuevers

A hydrofoil trim tab for use with each of a pair of seaplane floats, each tab including a substantially planar shaped body secured to an inside facing location of each float such that a pair of tab bodies are arrayed in opposing and inwardly directed fashion relative to the floats. Each tab is further constructed as a two piece article, a first portion being either mechanically secured or welded to the surface of the float, with a second portion being releasably / breakaway attached to the first portion, such as by frangible fasteners engaging a slidably connection location between the portions. In this fashion, inadvertent breakage of a trim tab at the frangible location will prevent damage to the float.

System and method for producing copper powder by electrowinning using the ferrous/ferric anode reaction

The present invention relates, generally, to a method for electrowinning copper powder, and more particularly to a method for electrowinning copper powder from a copper-containing solution using the ferrous / ferric anode reaction. In accordance with various embodiments of the present invention, a process for producing copper powder by electrowinning employs alternative anode reaction technology, namely, the ferrous / ferric anode reaction, and enables the efficient and cost-effective production of copper powder at a total cell voltage of less than about 1.5 V and at current densities of greater than 50 A / ft2. A copper powder electrowinning process in accordance with the present invention also reduces or eliminates acid mist generation that is characteristic of electrowinning operations utilizing conventional electrowinning chemistry (e.g., oxygen evolution at the anode), which is advantageous.
