The present invention relates to a visual indicating device and an article for controlling odors, in particular foot, garbage, basement, cooking, pet, tobacco, feces and urine odors. The article comprises a visual indicating agent that is color sensitive to the odor, and optionally, an odor absorbing agent. The visual indicating agent changes color when the article has been exposed to a sufficient amount of odor to saturate the article. The indicating agent may be applied in differing concentrations to two or more zones so as to indicate to a user of the article how much of the odor absorbing capacity has been used, or conversely, how much of the odor absorbing capacity remains. Suitable visual indicating agents that change color in response to odors are also described. The article for controlling odors may be a disposable odor absorbing sheet, air freshening product, diaper, undergarment pad, face mask, air filtration device, sanitary napkin, tampon, panty shield or incontinence pad.

The present invention is directed to materials containing an enzyme inhibitor, including treated fibers, nonwovens, functional particles and processes for making these materials. These materials are useful in reducing or delaying onset of odor generation from various waste materials including human and animal elimination products.

This invention concerns an odor control layer for personal care products having a dried, aqueously deposited formulation of odor sorbent and binder. This layer may be placed in a personal care product like diapers, training pants, absorbent underpants, adult incontinence products, and feminine hygiene products. The amount of odor sorbent present may be in an amount of between about 2 and 80 weight percent on a dry basis. The layer may be a tissue, film, paper towel, nonwoven web, coform, airlaid, wet-laid, bonded-carded web and laminates thereof.

A synergistic composition and method is provided for controlling odor from waste products. The composition comprises a combination of magnesium hydroxide and a sulfide-consuming compound. The method includes adding a sufficient amount of the composition to a waste stream to provide sufficient sulfide-consuming compound to effect immediate removal of sulfide. The composition incorporates a pH elevating and buffering compound, which both increases and buffers the pH. The increased pH serves to reduce both the volatile sulfide species and the volatile fatty acid (VFAs) species. The elevated pH also promotes the growth of naturally occurring bacteria which metabolize the sulfide to an innocuous form. Finally, addition of the composition drives the pH into a range where the growth of sulfide producing bacteria is inhibited. The mixture has surprisingly been found to be synergistic with respect to both control of chemical species that produce odors and corrosion of metals commonly found in sludge dewatering equipment.

Absorbent articles with an odor control system. The odor control system includes at least two classes of odor control materials, wherein a first class comprises at least a material having low volatility, and a second class comprises at least a material having high volatility. The odor control system is provided in the absorbent article in a selected position and amount to provide a prolonged odor control action.

A novel air freshener for use in a bathroom is disclosed and comprises a sending unit that is mounted in the tank of a toiler assembly, and a remote dispenser comprised of housing and a base and that is preferably mounted onto the ceiling of the bathroom. The sending unit includes level sensing module that generates a signal whenever the toilet is, flushed (thereby lowering the water level in the toilet tank) and the same signal is received by the remote dispenser. A system and method for the purification and biodeodorizing of a gas are disclosed. A technique for incorporating odor control agent particles into an absorbent article is provided. More specifically, the odor control particles are “homogenously” distributed (e.g., in a substantially uniform manner) within an airformed fiber matrix of an absorbent core of an absorbent article. An absorbent core containing such a homogeneously distributed odor control particles may possess a greater surface area for contacting malodorous compounds, thereby increasing the likelihood of odor reduction.

An odor control fragrant additive comprises compacted pellets or granules infiltrated with fragrant oil. Cellulosic material, activated carbon and binder are mixed together and compacted to produce compacted pellets or granules. The cellulosic material preferably is peat moss, which swells up during absorption of fragrant oil and acts as fragrant oil storage. Fragrant oil is delivered to activated carbon that has large surface area, which evaporates the fragrance oil to release steady fragrance output. The fragrant compacted pellets or granules may be used to suppress malodor from trashcans or litter boxes and may provide stand-alone additions to drawers and cabinets, emitting pleasant fragrance.

An odor control substrate that contains a plurality of fibers oriented in the z-direction is provided. At least some of the fibers contain portions that are exposed on an outer surface of the substrate. An odor control coating is applied to the substrate so that a majority of the coating resides on the exposed portions. As a result, the odor control substrate may retain certain of its beneficial properties even after being applied with the odor control coating, such as good extensibility, absorbency, etc.

Described are fiber materials having improved malodor scavenger properties and a process for the manufacture of said materials. The fiber material especially is useful in the manufacture of hygienic products like disposable diapers.

There is provided a composite comprising a bonded mixture of a binder and active ingredients such as spill control agents, odor control agents, anti-microbial agents, and biologically active agents. The mixture is applied to and fused and/or coalesced with a first substrate, preferably an nonwoven material that is fluid permeable or impermeable. The composite preferably contains a second substrate, preferably a nonwoven material, placed on top of the mixture that is fused to and/or coalesced with the mixture. A novel method of producing an odor-controlling textile is disclosed. More specifically, a textile structure is disclosed that contains thin breathable film layer having an activatable antimicrobial odor controlling material. Most specifically, the present invention relates to a textile composite that is composed of a flexible breathable film layer with a measurable gas or vapor transmission rate, that contains metallic silver, zinc and/or copper metallic ions, and is combined with fabric and/or foam layers to form an antimicrobial, odor and infection control laminated structure.
