A multi-purpose oxygen face mask which functions as three different masks at once: regular, aerosol, and non-rebreather is disclosed. The mask fits over the nose and mouth area of the wearer and is secured by a head strap, a neck strap and a bendable aluminum strip over the nose area. The straps are secured by a multiple hole adjustment and securing system and those straps that come in contact with a patient's cheek and ear area are padded with a soft foam padding for increased comfort. A plurality of access ports with snap covers allows for the connection of standard hoses and attachments to configure to mask in the abovementioned manners. At inhalation negative pressure created a mixing chamber forces the air stored in the reservoir bag to pass via CO2 absorption chamber where it may be mixed with a fresh portion of the ambient air that influxes via orifice(s) communicating with this chamber. An oxygen setpoint controller (SPC) and a user's display for a rebreathing apparatus wherein the user exhales oxygen depleted breath into a closed rebreathing loop, the CO₂ is scrubbed from the exhaled gases, oxygen is added to the rebreathing loop to maintain the oxygen at a specified partial pressure, and the oxygen enhanced gases in the rebreathing are provided to the user. The SPC is able to detect the failure of any of the oxygen sensors and provide an alarm condition to the user. The SPC further operates to provide dive data such as rate of ascent, time of dive, depth, and PPO2 to the uses, and to store and retain dive data for further review. The SPC further provides numerical dive data to a heads up display (HUD). The HUD further includes a tricolor LED displaying selected analog parameters.

A respiratory valve apparatus with a housing having an inner chamber, an endotracheal tube connection port, a respirator connection port and a resuscitation bag connection port. A valve positioned within the inner chamber can switch the flow between a manual resuscitation bag port and a ventilator port enabling the patient to be treated without having to disconnect the respirator support system to thereby connect the resuscitation bag. This prevents the loss of positive end expiratory pressure (PEEP) in the lungs and guards against lung collapse and hemodynamic compromise. The valve includes preloaded seals that will create minimal dragging during valve actuation and work under both positive and negative pressure. The apparatus includes a tethered cover for closure of the resuscitation bag port for sealably covering the port when a bag is not attached or the ventilator connector during patient transport. A sealing arrangement within the resuscitator bag port insures that PEEP in maintained when the resuscitator bag adapter is inserted into the housing.

A self-contained breathing apparatus or a respirator can be equipped with a sensor of ambient airborne conditions. A display unit can be carried by a face mask for the apparatus or respirator. Responsive to output signals from the sensor, the display unit can present an air quality indicator, or a breathability indicator to a user of the apparatus or respirator.

The present claim enables a breathing system to be assessed with a minimum of attention or experience regardless of type of breathing system. This is achieved by creating an electronic control system for the breathing system which converts all available parameters which affect the ongoing use of the breathing system and converting those parameters in a common basis of time remaining of practical use on the breathing system. The electronic system then combines the common parameters in time and combines as appropriate to produce a single time remaining parameter pertaining to the breathing machine operation. This approach is applied across rebreather and open circuit, land and water based systems such that an operator may use similar skills to interpret the output indications of different types of machines.

Breathing-gas delivery systems and methods are described. In one such system there is a movable partition, a housing and a filter body. The housing is disposed about the movable partition, and thereby provides a respirator side on a first side of the partition, and a patient side on a second side of the partition. The housing also has (a) a patient inspiration orifice on the patient side, which is adaptable to supply breathing-gas to a patient, and (b) a gas exhaust orifice on the patient side.

The present invention relates to an exhaust apparatus for releasable or permanent connection to a personal protection respiratory device that defines a filtered air volume adjacent to the face of a wearer and comprises at least one exhalation valve. The exhaust apparatus comprising a powered blower in fluid connection with the at least one exhalation valve, the blower being operable to draw a portion of the wearer's exhaled breath through the at least one exhalation valve. Using such an exhaust apparatus for releasable connection to a personal protection respiratory device improves the comfort and overall experience for respirator wearers who use the respirator for intensive work, and/or for long periods of time, and/or in hot and humid environmental conditions by removing the heat and moisture build-up inside the respirator.

An air purifying respirator includes a dual stage fan that sucks outside air in through the filter canisters and then pushes the filtered air on to the user's mask or hood, where excess air escapes. A differential pressure sensor measures the pressure within the passages after the dual stage fan and in the ambient environment to estimate the user's rate of respiration. The microcontroller monitors the estimated rate of respiration, as well as the estimated altitude and its estimated amount of oxygen to calculate a user's filtered air flow need. The microcontroller adjusts the van via a fan controller to the appropriate air flow level. The microcontroller further monitors the battery level, filter life, and for low pressure within the user's mask and operates their respective indicators when problem levels arise. The battery supplies power to the microcontroller, power on/off button, and the dual stage fan.
