A bariatric treatment system providing a comprehensive array of therapeutic services for the morbidly obese patient is disclosed. The treatment system generally comprises a stable bed frame upon which is mounted a low air loss therapeutic mattress system. Integrated hardware and software controls provide such therapies as pulsation, percussion, rotation, cardiac chair and Trendelenburg. Means are disclosed whereby the bariatric patient may safely and comfortably enter and exit the bed with relative ease. The bed is adaptable for transport within a hospital, including such features as a TRANSPORT MODE wherein the bed's lateral axis is minimized and battery backup to maintain necessary therapies during patient transport. A plurality of control means are disclosed for simplification of caregiver workload and ease of patient utilization.

A Spontaneous Area Network (SPAN) is formed by mobile and fixed nodes using wireless transmission links between nodes, usually in a nearby geographical area. Applications allow users to create, join, leave, and manage SPANs and groups in a SPAN. Automatic procedures allow nodes to join other SPANs. Transmission power of the wireless network interface is dynamic, varying depending on battery level, type of information to transmit, state and topology of the network. A patient transport arrangement is provided in the passenger cabin of an aircraft and includes a patient stretcher, medical supplies and equipment, and a compartment that is variably and adaptably useable as a restroom compartment and as a medical care compartment. The compartment is arranged adjacent to the doorway clearance area in front of the cabin door of the aircraft. The adaptable compartment includes a foldable wall element so that the stretcher can extend at least partially into the compartment during take-off, landing and ground operations of the aircraft while leaving the doorway clearance area unobstructed, and so that the stretcher can be repositioned out of the compartment and into the doorway clearance area during cruise flight so as to allow the compartment to be used as a passenger restroom during the flight. This arrangement makes efficient use of space within the passenger cabin that would otherwise be unused during various phases of flight.

The system also comprises a processing system, which comprises: at least one receiver to receive the wireless signals; an environmental data processing engine configured to process data derived from the wireless signals to derive data indicative of an environment at the incident scene; a situational context processing engine configured to process the data indicative of the environment to derive data indicative of a situation deemed to have occurred in relation to the first response mission; and a decision making engine configured to process the data indicative of the situation and institutional data relevant to the situation to determine an action to be performed with respect to the situation, such as transmission of a message to a first responder at the incident scene, establishment of communication between a first responder at the incident scene and a clinician remote from the incident scene, or transmission of a message to initiate preparation of resources at a healthcare facility remote from the incident scene for arrival of at least one patient transported from the incident scene.

A stretcher for transporting patients, comprising a rest plane (2) for supporting a patient in a substantially lying position, and means for raising (3, 35) for raising the rest plane (2) with respect to the surface on which the stretcher (1) is resting, comprising at least two distinct support elements (3) which rest on a ground surface, each of which is connected to the rest plane (2) such as to be able to move, independently of the other thereof, between a respective closed position and a respective open position, such that when both the support elements (3) are in a closed position, the rest plane (2) is supported at a lower height, and when both the support elements (3) are in an open position, the rest plane (2) is supported at a greater height, and motor means (35) for moving the support elements (3) from the respective closed positions into the respective open positions, such as to raise the rest plane (2).

A lift-assisted device having a patient support structure, a base, and an undercarriage. The device can be powered by a pneumatic cylinder and a compressed gas source. The undercarriage can be a scissors linkage having at least one first member being slidably connected to the patient support structure an upper end of the first member and pivotally connected to the base at a lower end of the first member, and at least one second scissors linkage member, the second scissors linkage member being pivotally connected to the first scissors linkage member. An upper end of the second member is pivotally connected to the patient support structure, and a lower end of the second member is pivotally connected to the base. The pneumatic cylinder is arranged for moving the upper end of the first member and the lower end of the second member with respect to the patient support structure.

Emergency vehicle patient transport systems are disclosed. In one embodiment, an emergency vehicle patient transport system includes: a loading passage providing access to an interior of an emergency vehicle; one or more tracks coupled to a floor of the emergency vehicle, a ceiling of the emergency vehicle, a wall of the emergency vehicle or combinations thereof wherein, a travel path is delineated by the one or more tracks; and a chair slidingly engaged with the one or more tracks, and vertically positioned between the floor and the ceiling. The chair locks in one or more set positions. And, the one or more set positions are selected from a group consisting of an airway care position, an extended airway care position, a procedural care position, a responder position, a patient care position, and a patient load position.

A patient transporting device having a mobile IV pole which comprises a wheeled base with an enclosure that substantially covers the wheels and a bumper secured to the enclosure. A pole is coupled to the base, and a plurality of hook or other holders are provided for holding intravenous fluid reservoirs. The pole may include first and second arms that extend substantially vertically upwardly from the base, each arm made up of respective lower, central, and upper telescoping tubular portions. The lower portions of the arms are securely coupled to the base, the upper portions are rigidly interconnected with one another, and the central portions of the first and second arms are rigidly interconnected by a stabilization bar which has a plurality of routing channels therein for routing flexible tubing. An obliquely oriented handle is coupled to the pole and is axially movable along at least a portion of the pole. The IV pole may be provided with an electrical receptacle having a retractable power cord. A hook or other hanger also may be provided at a lower portion of the pole for hanging a catheter bag, and a further hook, eyelet, or other coupling may be provided for towing the IV pole along with a gurney, wheelchair, or bed, for example.

A patient transport apparatus. The patient transport apparatus of the present invention is articulated and sized to fit between the body and the open door of virtually all vehicles. Further, the patient transport apparatus uses a height-adjustable seat that is aligned with the vehicle seat to allow for simplified extraction of the patient from the vehicle. The height-adjustable seat lowers to just above ground height making the recovery of a fallen patient easier. A set of casters allows omni-directional travel of the patient transport apparatus for precise placement and a pair of primary motion wheels makes linear travel easier while providing a turning radius substantially approaching zero.

A respiratory valve apparatus with a housing having an inner chamber, an endotracheal tube connection port, a respirator connection port and a resuscitation bag connection port. A valve positioned within the inner chamber can switch the flow between a manual resuscitation bag port and a ventilator port enabling the patient to be treated without having to disconnect the respirator support system to thereby connect the resuscitation bag. This prevents the loss of positive end expiratory pressure (PEEP) in the lungs and guards against lung collapse and hemodynamic compromise. The valve includes preloaded seals that will create minimal dragging during valve actuation and work under both positive and negative pressure. The apparatus includes a tethered cover for closure of the resuscitation bag port for sealably covering the port when a bag is not attached or the ventilator connector during patient transport. A sealing arrangement within the resuscitator bag port insures that PEEP in maintained when the resuscitator bag adapter is inserted into the housing.

The invention provides an adjustable apparatus, which is removedly attachable to a medical emergency cot, gurney, wheeled stretcher or the like, and that functions to support and immobilize of an extremity of a human body during patient transport. The apparatus consists of a cot attachment member an extension pole assembly and an extremity support member and wherein certain combinations of relative movements of the extension pole assembly and the extremity support member allow the apparatus to be disposed and secured in positions that support an extremity of a patient lying on the emergency cot and wherein other combinations of relative movements allow the apparatus to be disposed and secured in a storage position. A patient transport apparatus includes a sling for movement of a person from or into a vehicle seat supported by a dual legged horizontal frame mounted on rollers or wheels with a generally vertical, telescoping post having a cantilever arm extending therefrom. A medical imaging system for imaging a region of interest (ROI) in a patient. The imaging system includes an imaging modality unit having a field of view (FOV) and an examination platform. The examination platform has a pair of opposite ends and a platform surface extending therebetween along an examination axis. The platform surface extends into the FOV. The imaging system also includes a patient transport belt that is supported by the examination platform and extends along the platform surface between the ends of the examination platform. The imaging system also includes a motor that is operatively coupled to and configured to move the transport belt along the platform surface in a direction along the examination axis. The motor moves the transport belt so that a predetermined portion of the transport belt is within the FOV.

A patient transport cot comprises a height adjustment component coupled to the patient transport cot and configured to raise or lower the cot to a plurality of heights. The patient transport cot further comprises a mechanical height indicator, which comprises at least one height setting, wherein each height setting corresponds to a target cot height. A collapsible, foldable transport surface capable of supporting an individual when carried by one or more assisting personnel utilizing hand hold components. The transport surface includes a primary body support surface and a secondary leg extension support surface that are connected together. The primary body support surface incorporates an array of straps extending across the back side thereof to form loop based hand holds positioned on the side edges of the transport surface. A set of longitudinally oriented straps are positioned on the support surface and extend from a top edge to form two loop based hand holds which further together terminate into a single loop hand hold at the opposite edge. The secondary leg extension support surface includes a smaller array of straps that extend across the extension support surface forming additional hand holds on either side. The secondary leg extension surface may be retained against the primary support surface when not in use. Each of the loop based hand holds are constructed from flexible tubing through which the support straps are threaded. The balance of the support straps likewise extend across and are sewn to the underside of the support surface. The device may be rolled into a cylindrical configuration and secured utilizing a closure tab. A peripheral strap is positioned on the upper and side edges of the primary support surface to open and fully extend the body support surface.

A transport that is manually powered for transporting an injured or disabled person from one location to another. The chair is particularly useful for transporting an injured or disabled person (who is of a heavy weight) up or down a flight of stairs.
