Antenna system for a smart portable device using a continuous metal band

A method and portable device provide multi-band, multi-antenna signal communication in a portable device having wireless communication capability. A portable device comprises a single loop multi-feed (SLM) antenna system which includes a continuous conductive ring located along and adjacent to a first device periphery area. The SLM antenna system also comprises multiple communication feeds each respectively coupled to one of multiple transceivers and to the conductive ring. The SLM antenna system includes multiple ground connection points each of which is coupled to a ground plane. Each ground connection point is selectively positioned at a corresponding location on the continuous conductive ring in order to configure, within the SLM antenna system, multiple corresponding antenna elements. The SLM antenna system enables frequency tuning associated with a first antenna element to be performed independently of frequency tuning associated with a second antenna element and supports signal propagation via the multiple antennas using respective frequency bands.

On-line adaptive model predictive control in a process control system

A method of creating and using an adaptive DMC type or other MPC controller includes using a model switching technique to periodically determine a process model, such as a parameterized process model, for a process loop on-line during operation of the process. The method then uses the process model to generate an MPC control model and creates and downloads an MPC controller algorithm to an MPC controller based on the new control model while the MPC controller is operating on-line. This technique, which is generally applicable to single-loop MPC controllers and is particularly useful in MPC controllers with a control horizon of one or two, enables an MPC controller to be adapted during the normal operation of the process, so as to change the process model on which the MPC controller is based to thereby account for process changes. The adaptive MPC controller is not computationally expensive and can therefore be easily implemented within a distributed controller of a process control system, while providing the same or in some cases better control than a PID controller, especially in dead time dominant process loops, and in process loops that are subject to process model mismatch within the process time to steady state.

Robust process identification and auto-tuning control

A simple yet effective and robust identification method is presented using process step responses for process identification that can provide a continuous transfer function with time-delay without iteration. A cascade relay provides accurate and reliable more points on the process frequency response. The internal model principle is employed to design single-loop controller of PID or high-order types with best achievable control performance for controller tuning, e.g. both single and multivariable cases are covered. The process identification and control design portions can be easily integrated into a control system auto-tuning package. Further, a general control scheme for disturbance rejection is given which can significantly improve disturbance rejection performance over conventional feedback systems with time delays. Practical issues such as noises, real-time implementation and tuning guidelines are also provided. The present invention provide general, systematic, effective, and applicable methods for process identification and control for a wide range of industries such as process and chemical plants, food processing, waste water treatment and environmental systems, oil refinery, servo and mechatronic systems, where a system model is needed for analysis, prediction, filtering, optimization and management, and / or where control or better control is required for their systems.

Robust process identification and auto-tuning control

This invention provides a novel process identification and control package for high performance. For process identification, a simple yet effective and robust identification method is presented using process step responses to give a continuous transfer function with time-delay without iteration. A new relay, called cascade relay, is devised to get more accurate and reliable points on the process frequency response. For controller tuning, the internal model principle is employed to design single-loop controller PID or high-order types with best achievable control performance. The process identification and control design parts can be easily integrated into control system auto-tuning package. Further, a general control scheme for disturbance rejection is given which can significantly improve disturbance rejection performance over conventional feedback systems with time delays. Practical issues such as noises, real-time implementation and tuning guidelines are also provided. The invention covers both open-loop and closed-loop testing, and single and multivariable cases.

Transmitter for wireless applications incorporation spectral emission shaping sigma delta modulator

A transmitter employing a sigma delta modulator having a noise transfer function adapted to shift quantization noise outside at least one frequency band of interest. A technique is presented to synthesize the controllers within a single-loop sigma delta modulator such that the noise transfer function can be chosen arbitrarily from a family of functions satisfying certain conditions. Using the novel modulator design technique, polar and Cartesian (i.e. quadrature) transmitter structures are supported. A transmitter employing polar transmit modulation is presented that shapes the spectral emissions of the digitally-controlled power amplifier such that they are significantly and sufficiently attenuated in one or more desired frequency bands. Similarly, a transmitter employing Cartesian transmit modulation is presented that shapes the spectral emissions of a hybrid power amplifier such that they are significantly and sufficiently attenuated in one or more desired frequency bands.

System, method, and program product for loop instruction scheduling hardware lookahead

Improved scheduling of instructions within a loop for execution by a computer system having hardware lookahead is provided. A dependence graph is constructed which contains all the nodes of a dependence graph corresponding to the loop, but which only contains loop-independent dependence edges. A start node simulating a previous iteration of the loop may be added to the dependence graph, and an end node simulating a next iteration of the loop may also added to the dependence graph. A loop-independent edge between a source node and the start node is added to the dependence graph, and a loop-independent edge between a sink node and the end node is added to the dependence graph. Loop-carried edges which satisfy a computed lower bound on the time required for a single loop iteration are eliminated from a dependence graph, and loop-carried edges which do not satisfy the computed lower bound are replaced by a pair of loop-independent edges. Instructions may be scheduled for execution based on the dependence graph.

Multi-sampling SIGMA-DELTA analog-to-digital converter

A bandpass SIGMADELTA ADC utilizing either a single-loop or a MASH architecture wherein the resonators are implemented as either a delay cell resonator, a delay cell based resonator, a Forward-Euler resonator, a two-path interleaved resonator, or a four-path interleaved resonator. The resonator can be synthesized with analog circuit techniques such as active-RC, gm-C, MOSFET-C, switched capacitor, or switched current. The switched capacitor or switched current circuits can be designed using single-sampling, double-sampling, or multi-sampling circuits. The non-stringent requirement of a SIGMADELTA ADC using switched capacitor circuits allows the ADC to be implemented in a CMOS process to minimize cost and reduce power consumption. Double-sampling circuits provide improved matching and improved tolerance to sampling clock jitter. In particular, a bandpass MASH 4-4 SIGMADELTA ADC provides a simulated signal-to-noise ratio of 85 dB at an oversampling ratio of 32 for a CDMA application. The bandpass SIGMADELTA ADC can also be used in conjunction with undersampling to provide a frequency downconversion.

ActiveCN105703767ASimple structureEliminate the effects of jitter performance degradationPulse automatic controlDiscriminatorHigh energy
The invention discloses a high-energy-efficiency low-jitter single loop clock data recovery circuit. The circuit comprises an 1 / N rate Bang-Bang phase discriminator with a 1:N demultiplexer function, a voltage-current converter, a loop filter and a multi-phase clock generator. An orthogonal clock signal generated by an orthogonal voltage control oscillator in the multi-phase clock generator is synthesized into a needed (N+2) phase recovery clock signal through a cascaded digital phase interpolator. And then the 1 / N rate Bang-Bang phase discriminator receives input data and a phase clock signal, detects a phase relationship between the two to generate a lead / lag voltage signal and recovers N paths of parallel 1 / N rate data signals. Then, the lead / lag voltage signal is converted into a current signal through the voltage-current converter. A current passes through loop filter filtering and then controls an output clock frequency and a phase relationship of the multi-phase clock generator so as to reduce a frequency deviation so that phase locking of a clock data recovery loop is reached. Jitter performance of the clock data recovery loop is effectively improved.

Single loop multistage fuel production

Synthetic fuels are produced from synthesis gas in a four-stage reactor system with a single recycle loop providing the requisite thermal capacity to moderate the high heat release of the reactions and to provide the reactants and reaction environments for the efficient operation of the process. The first stage converts a portion of the synthesis gas to methanol, the second stage converts the methanol to dimethylether, the third stage converts the methanol and dimethylether to fuel and the fourth stage converts the high melting point component, durene, and other low volatility aromatic components such as tri- andtetra-methylbenzenes to high octane branched paraffins. The four-stage catalyst used for hydrotreating is resistant to CO poisoning. The reactions i produce water as a side product that is carried through to a high pressure separator after the fourth stage. The streams from the separator are a liquid fuel stream, a water stream and a gaseous stream that contains light hydrocarbon gases and the unreacted synthesis gas. The larger part of this gas stream is recycled to the inlet of the first stage and mixed with the fresh synthesis gas stream. Alternatively, the fresh synthetic gas stream is mixed with the product of the second stage. The smaller part of the gas stream from the separator is sent to hydrocarbon recovery and to fuel gas used for providing preheat of various streams. The liquid fuel is sent for blending into fuel products, such as gasoline, jet fuel, or diesel, and the water stream can be sent, for example, to the synthesis gas producing plant for steam generation.
