The invention discloses an automotive blind spot detection system and method adopting a microwave radar sensor and ultrasonic sensors. The automotive blind spot detection system comprises the microwave radar sensor arranged in the middle of the tail end of an automobile and the ultrasonic sensors symmetrically arranged on two sides of the automobile, wherein the detection zone of the microwave radar sensor covers the rear ends of blind spots, for abutting lanes, of exterior rear-view mirrors and part of visible areas behind the rear ends of the blind spots of the automobile; the detection zones of the ultrasonic sensors cover the front ends of the blind spots for the abutting lanes, of the exterior rear-view mirrors of the automobile; the detection zones of the microwave radar sensor and the ultrasonic sensors wholly cover the blind spots of the exterior rear-view mirrors of the automobile, extending areas of the rear ends of the blind spots and extending detection areas at the tail end of the automobile. The invention discloses a detection device and detection method of car ultrasonic blind area for preventing ground measuring error and misinformation which consists of several ultrasonic sensors. Every ultrasonic sensor is arranged in a certain angle with the longitudinal center line of the vehicle. The set angle of detection direction space in every ultrasonic sensor corresponds respectively to different directions from far to near inside road blind area. The detection distance of every ultrasonic sensor is different, and the detection distance decreases gradually from far to near inside road blind area. By shielding the error signal of every ultrasonic sensor to the ground and extracting useful signals from every ultrasonic sensor detection, continuous and remote detection signals from near to far are combined. A larger coverage can be provided to cover the visible area belonging to the rear mirror blind spot and blind area outside the car side. The invention can provide a more appropriate and lager coverage for the visual area of the rear end of the blind area and the rear end of the blind area at vehicle side. And the invention ensures effectively the detection performance of the blind spot detection system.
