Methods and apparatus for mitral valve repair are disclosed herein where the posterior mitral leaflet is supported or buttressed in a frozen or immobile position to facilitate the proper coaptation of the leaflets. An implantable apparatus may be advanced and positioned intravascularly beneath the posterior leaflet of the mitral valve. The apparatus may include one or more individual balloon members, each of which may be optionally configured with supporting integrated structures. A magnet chain catheter may be positioned within the coronary sinus and adjacent to the mitral valve to magnetically secure the apparatus in position beneath the posterior mitral leaflet. Alternatively, a split-ring device may be placed about the chordae tendineae supporting the mitral valve such that the ring slides along the chordae tendineae alternately against the mitral leaflet and towards the papillary muscles during systole and diastole.

Split ring bone screw for a spinal fixation system

An adjustable spinal fixation system is composed of a collection of anchoring assemblies attached, via a variety of connectors, to spine-stabilizing rods. The anchoring assemblies include a linking member attached in a ball-and-socket fashion to a bone-engaging member that is adapted to engage a spinal bone of a patient. The linking member joins one of the included connectors to an associated bone-engaging member. The connectors are selectively attached to one of the stabilizing rods. The anchoring assemblies each include a support collar and a split retention ring that cooperate to allow adjustment of the bone-engaging member and corresponding connector during surgery. When surgery is complete, a securing nut and locking bolt cooperate with the support collar and split retention ring to maintain the relative position of the entire fixation system, preventing unwanted movement between the system components.

Coaxially lockable poly-axial bone fastener assemblies

A poly-axial bone fastener assembly having a collar and a bone fastener can be coaxially locked to prevent poly-axial movements of the collar relative to the bone fastener while permitting the collar to rotate about an axis of the bone fastener, thereby combining the functions and advantages of a poly-axial bone screw and a fixed angle bone screw. Some embodiments of a coaxial locking mechanism may include a c-clip with a locking pin, a c-clip with hooks, a split ring with square corners, a pin that spins inside the collar, pins that travel about a neck of the bone fastener, a coaxially locking top that screws into the collar over a head of the bone fastener, and a top nut that threads onto the head of the bone fastener inside the collar to trap a flange of the collar between a shoulder of the bone fastener and the top nut.

Multi-planar adjustable connector

A connection assembly between a spinal implant rod and a vertebral anchor. The assembly has a split ring, a clamp, a collet and optionally a nut. The split ring is located inside the clamp and the collet is inserted through each of the clamp's arms. In use, the spinal implant rod is placed inside the split ring and the shaft or shank of the vertebral anchor is placed inside the collet. Drawing the arms of the clamp together then tightens the connection assembly, which closes the collet around the vertebral anchor and closes the split ring around the implant rod. Threading a nut on one end of the collet or directly threading the collet into one of the arms of the clamp tightens the assembly.

Fastener retention system

A vertebral plate system and associated method minimizes the number of required multiple configurations and sizes of hardware on hand during surgery for repair, stabilization or fusion of bone segments. A novel aspect of the invention is a resilient split ring that cooperates with angled contact surfaces in a plate for allowing convenient and fast dynamic locking between the plate and a bone screw. In another aspect of the present invention, a screw or similarly elongated fastener having a generally spherical or part-spherical head with a section of helical threads is configured in a generally horizontal band and positioned around a maximum-diameter section of the head. The screw is loosely retained to a first structure by a snap-ring formed from a ring of elastic material having a slot cut so that the ring is a ā€œCā€ ring. The ring is seated on an annular shoulder formed in a through-hole in the first structure. The section of the through-hole above the shoulder tapers inwardly in an upward direction to a minimum diameter that is smaller than the outside diameter of the ring when the ring is in an unstressed state. The inner diameter of the ring has an edge that is adapted to cooperate with and ride in the threads on the screw head.

Device and method for pulling bullets from cartridges

InactiveUS7568417B1Large internal diameterIncrease ring diameterAmmunitionSplit ringEngineering
A device for use with an ammunition reloading press, the device uses a ā€œCā€ shaped split ring that is captured within a chamber with a slightly tapered frustaconical wall into the smaller end of which the bullet portion of an ammunition round can be inserted to a point where the bullet enters the C ring with a friction fit and subsequent withdrawal of the ammunition cartridge by operation of the press draws the ring into the increasingly narrow wall, decreasing the diameter of the ring and forcing a tighter grip on the bullet, which is then separated from the cartridge by further withdrawal and is removable from the device through an opening at the larger end of the chamber.

Suture ring for heart valve prosthesis

InactiveUS6113632AEasy to implantLarge and more compliantHeart valvesSplit ringProsthesis
A heart valve stiffening ring of this disclosure includes a split ring that allows assembly over a channel-shaped heart-valve-orifice-forming angular heart valve body, with the split ring having an outer peripheral tapered thread, which allows adjustment of pressure between the split ring and the orifice-forming annular body. A solid ring or nut has complementary tapered threads to mate with the outer peripheral tapered thread of the split ring and is adjustable for tightening of interfit thereof to bring about correct pressure for desired tightening effect with a moment of inertia in bending of the outer channel to make the orifice stronger so that orifice outer diameter thereof can be a maximum value. The angle of taper is substantially 3 degrees with respect to the center line. This heart valve stiffening ring can be employed in place of a heart valve locking ring of U.S. Design Pat. No. 376,206-Reif issued Dec. 3, 1996. Improvement of the present design includes a major feature or crux that the split ring and solid ring or nut both have complementary threads that fit together and using the flanges of the channel configuration used therewith.

Manually replaceable protective wear sleeve

The wear sleeve in the present invention comprises a rearward split ring portion and an intermediate cylindrical ring portion adjacent a forward shoulder portion. The outer diameter of the wear sleeve intermediate portion and rearward split ring portion is uniform. The wear sleeve is inserted into the bit holder's stepped bore aperture. The split ring portion is radially compressed by the smaller diameter opposite portion end as the sleeve is hammered and axially displaced into the bit holder. The split ring portion forms frictional contact with the opposite end portion of the aperture. The wear sleeve friction fit can be easily removed manually in the field. The bit holder and cooperating support block are designed to limit the amount of relative yaw between the two members during operation to reduce the overall wear there between. The invention includes a groove having side surfaces that are inclined at least 15 degrees with respect to the horizontal axis and the cutting bit is positioned more apt toward the central axis of the support block than prior art designs.

The split ring and sleeve may be placed in a variable diameter housing such that contact of the outer diameter with a smaller diameter section of the housing causes the split ring to close, whereas contact with an larger diameter of the housing allows the split ring to open. In certain embodiments, a spring element, which may be the split ring itself, applies force to move the split ring from an open to closed position. A spring may be positioned around a portion of the sleeve and in an annular space at least partially defined by an annular body and the second cylindrical outer surface.
