Post-tension intersection chair

InactiveUS6925771B2Eliminating wire tyingEfficient methodBuilding reinforcementsDetentSupport surface
A chair for supporting and spacing post-tension cables having a generally tapered body with an upper receiving area for securing the cables and a planar base adapted to rest on a flat support surface. The body has inner and outer surfaces that are substantially complementary to one another to allow a plurality of chairs to be stacked together. The receiving area includes posts extending upwardly between notches. The posts define passageways for guiding the cables into the notches. Detents project inwardly from the tops of the posts and fixedly retain the bars within the passageways. The chair may be formed from a resilient polymeric material.

Dual-sided, texturized biocompatible structure

A soft tissue expander has enhanced performance through use of differential and directional expandability, continuous expansion capability, increased base and dimensional stability, increased soft tissue purchase by virtue of unique surface topography, and results in improved cavity contour after expansion. Expansion means may be provided to expand the implant in a desired direction. In the preferred embodiment, an expander or implant has an exterior surface defining a volume, the exterior surface including a base portion, a first wall and a second wall, wherein the second wall is relatively thinner than the first wall. A fill port, which may be integrally molded into the expander, is included. As the expander is inflated, differential expansion occurs with the relatively thin second wall section expanding more than that of the first wall section. The base may include ribs or other molded-in structures to increase structural integrity. Optionally, a bellows may be included on the exterior surface of the expander, the bellows optionally including a limiting ring. Molded-in geometric patterns may be employed to present textured internal, as well as external surfaces to the implant or expander. Compressive structures may be used on the inside or outside surface of the implant.

Method and apparatus for examining a substance, particularly tissue, to characterize its type

A method and apparatus are disclosed, for examining a substance of a given volume to characterize its type, with an integrated sensing head. The method comprises applying locally to the substance of the given volume a polarizing magnetic field, with a component defining a polarizing axis; applying locally RF pulses to the substance of the given volume, the RF pulses having a B component, orthogonal to the polarizing axis, such as to invoke EI response signals corresponding to the electrical impedance (EI) of the examined substance of the given volume, and magnetic resonance (MR) response signals corresponding to the MR properties of the examined substance of the given volume; detecting locally EI response signals from the substance of the given volume; and detecting locally MR response signals from the substance of the given volume. Two or more sensing heads may be used, both applying locally the RF pulses and detecting. Alternatively, one of the sensing heads may operate as a transmitter, while the other or others may operate as receivers.

Applied artificial intelligence technology for runtime computation of story outlines to support natural language generation (NLG)

ActiveUS10572606B1Improve how narrative stories are generatedReduce needNatural language translationNatural language analysisData setAlgorithm
Artificial intelligence (AI) technology can be used in combination with composable communication goal statements and an ontology to facilitate a user's ability to quickly structure story outlines in a manner usable by an NLG narrative generation system without any need for the user to directly author computer code. This AI technology permits NLG systems to determine the appropriate content for inclusion in a narrative story about a data set in a manner that will satisfy a desired communication goal. The determined content can be arranged in a computed story outline that is created at runtime, and NLG can be performed on the computed story outline to generate the narrative story.

Looped AirFoil Wind Turbine (LAWT) (10) is a novel wind turbine with a basic system of a triangular structure (14) utilizing both lift and drag aerodynamic forces produced by wind energy. The entire triangular structure (14) could either yaw to always face the wind direction (W) or stay in a fixed position. The LAWT system (10) uses airfoil blades (12) shaped like an airplane wing, traveling linearly on travel wheels (22) riding on travel tracks (50, 52, 54). While traveling up, the wings are powered by a positive lift force and drag force while using negative lift force and drag force when traveling downward. All wings (12) are connected by a segmented chain (16) which transfers the kinetic power of wheeled wing carriages (18) directly to multiple generators (26), requiring no gears.

Machine for producing spiral-toothed bevel gears

InactiveUSRE38504E1Simple designSimple and safe and efficient operation of machineGear-cutting machinesMaintainance and safety accessoriesGear wheelHeavy duty
A CNC machine for producing spiral-toothed bevel gears is described, which has a first carriage supporting a tool spindle and is displaceable in height, and whose guide is disposed on a lateral surface of a machine housing, which is horizontally guided in a straight coordinate axis on a machine base. The tool spindle axis is parallel with the lateral surface and with the coordinate axis. Furthermore, the machine has a workpiece spindle support having a second carriage and a pivoting device with a vertical axis and is also horizontally guided on the machine base. The parallel arrangement of the tool spindle axis results in a new machine concept with a compact structure and optimal chip flow. Therefore the machine is particularly suited for heavy-duty dry milling. Since the tool spindle is not located above the area of the machine having a horizontal guide, it is possible to arrange a chip collector underneath the tool spindle, which can be reached by the chips essentially under the force of gravity.

Palm-based injector actuation and safety surfaces

A palm-held device is disclosed for injection of a substance into an organism. The palm-held device has the shape of a computer mouse, and so is very familiar, which helps with ease-of-use and comfort. Like a computer mouse, the device can be moved easily by gently holding and guiding the mouse with the fingers and the palm of the hand. There are many possible button configurations, such as a single button mouse, the button having a large surface at the front top portion of the mouse, and being pressable by any finger. There can also be a two button mouse, such that the left button actuates the injection, and the right button is the “safety” that allows the left button to actuate the injection. The two buttons can be on the top front of the mouse, or can be on the right and left sides of the mouse.

Hydraulic jack stand

The hydraulic jack stand is a hydraulic jack with an integral jack stand. The jack stand helps stabilize and support a heavy object being lifted by the jack. The hydraulic jack stand uses multiple parallel safety mechanisms to prevent the jack from lowering unexpectedly while being used as a jack stand. The jack uses hydraulic pressure to raise and lower a lifting post. Pivoting teeth arranged along the lifting post allow the lifting post to be raised while preventing the post from falling due to any failure in the hydraulic cylinder. The jack stand has several legs, which extend out to provide a wide base. The legs have feet with non-slip pads underneath to protect the legs from wear and to help prevent the stand from slipping.

Knife sharpener

The invention concerns a knife sharpener for household knives or the like. In order to design a knife sharpener, which, one the one hand, can be used for sharpening and sits solidly on a surface without it having to be held, and which, on the other hand, is producible with little economic cost regarding production and assembly, the invention proposes a knife sharpener with a housing, which has a surface designed to be a base, and at least one longitudinal, cylindrical grinding element made from ceramics, at least part of the surface of which is arranged on the surface of the housing, whereas the base is designed at a right angle to a longitudinal line of the grinding element and the grinding element is positioned in the middle in relation to a projection of the base.
