Grab bar for shower and the like

A safety grab bar, such as may be used in a shower or a tub enclosure, comprises an inner liner, preferably formed of an extruded metal, and an outer overlying layer, preferably formed of a polymeric material such as plastic. The inner and outer liner mate together with a tongue and groove arrangement to prevent relative rotation between them. The inner liner and the outer overlying layer define the grab bar portion, and terminate at each end in a female receptacle, adapted to receive a male portion of a mounting bracket. The mounting bracket smoothly curves to complete a 90° turn, in order mount into a wall of the shower or bath enclosure. The male and female mating portions are flush at their outer dimensions to provide a smooth, unbroken profile. The male and female portions also include tongue and groove mating surface to prevent rotation of the grab bar within the mounting bracket.

Wall mounted folding grab bar

A wall supported grab bar structure provides two similar spacedly opposed L-shaped brackets interconnected by a fixed bar extending therebetween and carrying a U-shaped foldable bar to pivot relative thereto. Each bracket carries screw fasteners for mounting the brackets on structural elements of a supporting wall. The foldable bar pivots from a relaxed position parallel to a wall supporting a use to the brackets position perpendicular to the supporting wall. Spring leaf fasteners carried in the outer end portion of each leg of the foldable bar each provide a release pin and a spacedly distant fastener pin to releaseably interfit in a hole defined in the adjacent L-shaped bracket to releasably maintain the foldable bar in an extended operative position. Each fastener pin is releaseable responsive to motion of the spacedly distant release pins and both release pins must be simultaneously operated to release the foldable bar from a use portion.

Tracked compact utility loader

This invention relates to an outdoor equipment unit such as a walk-behind skid steer loader. The loader has a tracked traction system in which endless tracks are entrained around a rear drive support member and a front support member. The front support member is spring biased forwardly, but can move rearwardly against the spring bias to allow debris that is caught between the front support member to clear itself to help prevent the track from untracking. A single control handle having front and rear hand grips located between a fixed grab bar can be rotated and / or twisted to control the traction system. Return to neutral systems ensure that the control handle will return to a centered, neutral position upon release of the control handle by the operator.

Shopping cart

A shopping cart having a rear-facing seat for intermittent sitting and resting while shopping. The seat is in a barrier-less rear region of a rear open alcove, allowing a user to freely access the seat for sitting and to freely exit the seat for standing. The seat hingedly connects to the cart, allowing the seat to selectively lower in a down position for sitting and selectively swing upwards for accessing a storage area below the seat. The seat operationally connects to a brake, actuating the brake when the seat is in the down position, the brake engaging at least one wheel of the cart when the brake is actuated. The rear region of the cart has a pair of arms defining the alcove, each arm having a horizontal grab bar, providing support when a user grabs the bar upon rising from sitting.

Proximity-triggered handrail cueing system with automatic attention capture

The present invention provides a proximity-triggered handrail cueing system with automatic attention capture for providing visual and auditory cues that automatically and involuntarily (subconsciously) attract attention to the handrail. The system includes a hand railing (i.e. handrail or grab bar) constructed from translucent or transparent plastic tubing, a series of lights mounted inside the railing, along the longitudinal axis, one or more auditory speakers built into the railing or railing brackets, and a proximity detector (e.g. photoelectric sensor) and controller that activates the lights and speakers whenever a person approaches the railing. The speakers can be used to issue a verbal prompt to hold the handrail. The lights inside the railing are triggered to suddenly start flashing in such a way as to automatically and subconsciously attract attention to the handrail, thereby facilitating ability to rapidly and effectively reach and grasp the handrail for support in the event that the person does not hold the railing voluntarily and subsequently experiences a sudden unexpected loss of balance. Sounds emitted by the speakers can also be used to improve the ability to rapidly grab the railing in response to loss of balance. Embodiments of the system may include: 1) a proximity-triggered handrail cueing system with automatic attention capture elicited by visual cueing, 2) a proximity-triggered handrail cueing system with automatic attention capture elicited by auditory cueing; and 3) a proximity-triggered handrail cueing system with automatic attention capture elicited by a combination of visual and auditory cueing.

Integrated grab bar and navigation controller

A navigation controller for a watercraft enables an operator to safely control the vessel even when in rough seas. A grip member and control head act as an integrated grab bar to be grabbed by a hand of a user and transfer the force to a mount. The grip member is engagable by fingers on the hand of the user for providing a grab bar to the user to resist movement of the body of the user caused by the applied force. The applied force is transferred through the hand of the user to the grip member to the mount to a force transfer member to a structural member to dissipate the applied force in resisting excessive movement of the body of the user caused by the applied force. A navigation controller includes control switches for controlling the operation of the watercraft. A control plate supports the control switches and the control plate with the control switches is configured and dimensioned relative to the grip member to enable a thumb of the user to engage with one or more of the control switches while the fingers remain engaged with the grip member so that the resistance of the applied force to keep the user steady does not cause a unintended activation of one or more of the control switches. A tactile location indicator is disposed on the control plate to provide easy and rapid location indication by haptic feedback. The control switches may include piezo switches to allow use in a severe marine environment that may include prolonged deep immersion, and powerful and prolonged salt spray and pressure washing, enduring conditions that would render a conventional marine joystick inoperable.

Portable Restraint Device

A portable restraint device for a commuter to retain balance on a public transportation vehicle. The portable restraint device wraps a hook around a horizontal, vertical, or ring-shaped grab bar on the train or bus. The hook may be shaped like a hook, or operable as a carbiner, and is configured to adjust and securely attach to a variety of grab bars on public transportation vehicles. The opposite end of the portable restraint device includes a loop, configured for a hand to grip. The loop is often a flexible meshing material designed for comfort on long commutes. By gripping the loop, the commuter avoids contact with the grab bar surface, thereby avoiding germs. A handle secures the hook to the loop. However, the commuter is also able to grip the handle to retain balance. After the commute finishes, the commuter disengages the portable restraint device from the grab bar.
