This invention belongs to the field of
traditional Chinese medicine and
natural product technology, specifically relating to the use of
Leonurus japonicus extract in the preparation of
antidepressant drugs. This invention uses 70%
ethanol extraction to prepare
Leonurus japonicus extract. This extraction method reduces extraction costs, shortens production time, increases extract yield, increases the extraction rate of effective components, and increases enterprise production efficiency. This invention also uses multiple depression models to verify the
antidepressant activity of
Leonurus japonicus extract, including a chronic unpredictable mild stress-induced
depression model, a chronic
corticosterone injection-induced
depression model, and an ovariectomy combined with
hormone withdrawal-induced
depression model. The results show that
Leonurus japonicus extract has a significant
antidepressant effect in experimental animals. The antidepressant effect of the
Leonurus japonicus extract of this invention is not obvious compared to the characteristics of traditional gynecological drugs, and it focuses on
hormone-related depression, demonstrating the therapeutic value of
Leonurus japonicus extract in the clinical classification of depression.
