The present invention relates to a wireless transmitter comprising a transmitter radio unit working a wireless transmitter comprising a transmitter radio unit working in the millimeter wave frequency band using a directional antenna and a bidirectional radio unit working in a frequency range different from said transmitter radio unit and using an omnidirectional antenna. The invention further relates to a wireless receiver and a wireless relay.

A personal portable integrator is used to integrate the services of an arbitrary audio delivery device such as an MP3, CD, DVD, radio, or other media player, with the services of an arbitrary two-way communication device such as a mobile phone, or a two-way radio such as a walkie talkie, citizen band radio (e.g. CB), HAM radio, marine or aviation radio, and the like. The portable integrator receives and provides input and output signals from both the audio delivery device and the two-way communication device, thereby enabling a user to listen to music or other audio material and receive and place phone calls on a mobile phone simultaneously. The portable integrator provides these services by switching between the audio and communication devices, mixing signals received therefrom, and optionally enabling a user to reduce the volume or mute the signals as desired.

An integrated parking meter system automates the issuance of parking citations. Each parking meter will be equipped with a sonar range finder, mercury type switch and a two way radio that communicates via N-PCS to a host computer back at the control center. When a meter runs out of money it checks to see if a vehicle is present in the parking space. If it is, the meter notifies the host computer that there is a car illegally parked in the space. The host computer correlates the information to identify the exact location of the violator. Systems and methods are provided for routing voice communications through a mobile communication system having a self-contained infrastructure, such as a two-way radio communication system. The voice communications are transmitted as digitized voice packets over radio frequency links. The digitized voice packets contain one or more destination addresses in addition to other routing information. Routers receive the digitized voice packet and extract the routing information. The routing information is used in conjunction with a member router database to determine where to route the digitized voice packets.

The server computer is connected to the satellite communication service and is connected to a telecommunication system for alerting the owner/operator as to the aircraft's location and/or the current state of operation.

A two-way radio frequency lighting control system comprises a master control including a plurality of manual actuators, and a plurality of dimmers, in which the number of dimmers does not exceed the number of manual actuators. After the lighting control system is installed in an intended end user location, and prior to the first time the lighting control system is energized in the intended end user location, each of the manual actuators is operative to affect the status of one, and only one, of the plurality of dimmers. In a mobile control node system and method for a vehicle (630), the mobile control node (624) can interact, via a bi-directional radio link (642), with a transceiver processor unit (628) in the vehicle. The present invention relates to a wireless power supply system including a remote device capable of both transmitting and receiving power wirelessly. The remote device includes a self-driven synchronous rectifier. The wireless power supply system may also include a wireless power supply configured to enter an OFF state in which no power, or substantially no power, is drawn, and to wake from the OFF state in response to receiving power from a remote device.

A gunshot detection system includes a firearm and a communication device. The firearm includes a transceiver circuit that detects the discharge of an ammunition round. Upon the discharge occurring, the transceiver circuit emits an electromagnetic signal. The electromagnetic signal is received by the communication device, which may be a cellular telephone or two-way radio. The communication device is equipped with a geographic location sensor, like a GPS receiver for example. Software within the communication device then causes an informational message that includes geographic information to be transmitted to a remote device. For instance, when a police officer discharges his firearm, an informational message stating “Officer 1234 has just fired 3 shots at the intersection of Cucumber and Vine—please respond” may be transmitted. The informational message may change as information like the geographic location change.

A Slap on Watch consists of a watch face or timepiece (22) that is attached to a slap on band (10). The slap on band includes the component of a bistable spring metal (12), which will coil when slapped against the appropriate object such as a human wrist. When slapped against the wrist, the Slap on Watch will automatically form to the wrist, securing the watch to the wrist. The slap on band exists in two states; the elongated state, and the coiled state. The watch face in this invention could consist of any combination or all of the following; a timepiece, cell phone, two-way radio, or wireless Internet device. The Slap on Watch provides a quick and easy method to transport these devices. The Slap on Watch also could be used as a toy for children.

A personal alarm system includes a monitoring base station and one or more remote sensing units in two-way radio communication. An electronic handshake between the base station and each remote unit is used to assure system reliability. The remote units transmit at selectable power levels. In the absence of an emergency, a remote unit transmits at a power-conserving low power level. Received field strength is measured to determine whether a remote unit has moved beyond a predetermined distance from the base station. If the distance is exceeded, the remote unit transmits at a higher power level. The remote unit includes sensors for common hazards including water emersion, smoke, excessive heat, excessive carbon monoxide concentration, and electrical shock. The base station periodically polls the remote units and displays the status of the environmental sensors. Alternative embodiments include a panic button on the remote unit for summoning help, and an audible beacon on the remote unit which can be activated from the base station and useful for locating strayed children. In another embodiment, the remote unit includes a Global Positioning System receiver providing location information for display by the base station.

Disclosed herein is a communications system implementing a microphone wirelessly connected to a half-duplex communications device, such as a two-way radio or a radio-simulating cellular phone. The microphone may incorporate a transmit/receive switch wherein a transmit signal is wirelessly transmitted from the microphone to the communications device to direct the communications device to enter into a transmit mode. An earpiece suitable for use with two-way radios is configured to be captured at least partially within the conchae of an ear. The earpiece is configured for use in either ear. A system and method for testing radio coverage of a land mobile radio system. The system configuration generally employs a fixed unit, a mobile unit and the two-way radio system (not part of the invention) subject to testing. The test system and method are compatible with any land-mobile radio system (conventional, trunked, using proprietary or standards-based protocols, FDMA or TDMA) operating in any frequency band. One of three methods may be selected to perform testing at any one time: continuous testing, grid testing or receive-only testing. In the continuous and grid modes, both the talk-out and talk-in paths are measured. Test results are recorded in a computer file after being converted to a digital format, and are compared to an original “reference file” via the Perceptual Evaluation of Speech Quality (PESQ) algorithm as defined by ITU-T standard P.862. The PESQ output is then converted to a Delivered Audio Quality (DAQ) score by application of an empirical set of weighting factors to certain of the PESQ parameters.

An earpiece that substantially lacks a lower lobe is disclosed. In one example, the earpiece can have a generally arcuate rib having upper and lower ends. A lobe can be formed at the upper end of the arcuate rib. No lobe is formed at the lower end of the arcuate rib. An extension can extend from the earpiece and can be configured to extend into the ear canal. Eliminating the lower lobe mitigates discomfort during use and also reduces the likelihood of tissue damage and infection. The extension can enhance communication of desired sound, e.g., from a two-way radio, to an eardrum while mitigating communication of undesirable ambient noise to the eardrum. Other implementations and related methods are also disclosed.
