Method for authorizing in data transmission systems

The invention relates to a method and to a device for the authorization in data transmission systems employing a transaction authorization number (TAN) or a comparable password. According to a first step, the user sends a qualifying identification of the data input apparatus together with a request for the generation or for the selection of a transaction authorization number TAN or of comparable password from a data file from the data input apparatus to an authorization computer. In a second step the authorization computer generates the transaction authorization number TAN or the comparable password or selects them form a data file. According to a third step, the authorization computer sends the transaction authorization number TAN or the comparable password over a second transmission path different from the first transmission path to a monitor, for example a pager. According to a fourth step, the user reads this transaction authorization number TAN or the comparable password from the receiver and enters the transaction authorization number TAN or the comparable password into the data input apparatus. According to a fifth step, this transaction authorization number TAN or the comparable password is transmitted to the authorization computer. According to a sixth step, the authorization computer verifies the validity of the transaction authorization number TAN or of the comparable password in order to establish or switch free, according to a seventh step, a connection between the data input apparatus and the receiver unit.

Tokenless electronic transaction system

The invention as described provides a method and system for tokenless authorization of commercial transactions between a buyer and a seller using a computer system. The method comprises the steps of registering a buyer, wherein the buyer registers with the computer system a PIN, at least one registration biometric sample, and at least one buyer financial account. The method also includes a seller registration step, wherein the seller registers with the computer system at least one seller financial account. In a proposal step, the seller offers a proposed commercial transaction to the buyer usually comprising price information. If the buyer accepts the seller's proposal, in an acceptance step, the buyer signals his / her acceptance by adding to the proposed commercial transaction the buyer's personal authentication information comprising a PIN and at least one bid biometric sample which is obtained from the buyer's person. In a transmission step, the bid biometric sample and PIN are forwarded to the computer system. The computer system compares the bid biometric sample with registration biometric samples for producing either a successful or failed identification of the buyer in a buyer identification step. Upon determination of sufficient resources, a financial account of the buyer is debited and a financial account of the seller is credited, in a payment step. Therefore, a commercial transaction is conducted without the buyer having to use any portable man-made memory devices such as smartcards or swipe cards.

System and method for reducing the cost of efficient vehicles

A system and method are described for reducing the cost of efficient vehicles. For example, a computer-implemented system according to one embodiment of the invention comprises: a vehicle equipped with a memory for storing program code and a processor for processing the program code to perform a specified set of operations, the vehicle further comprising a data communication interface; a fuel pump of electrical charging station having a data communication interface, wherein the fuel pump of electrical charging station and the vehicle establish a digital data communication channel using the data communication interfaces as the vehicle is being refueled or charged; wherein the fuel pump of electrical charging station provides an amount of fuel or electricity to the vehicle and, after or during fueling or recharging, transmits an indication of the amount of fuel or electricity consumed by the vehicle to a third party server; wherein the third party server is maintained by a third party having a contractual relationship with an owner/operator of the vehicle in which the vehicle has been provided to the owner/operator at a reduced cost in exchange for an agreement by the owner/operator to provide the third party a supplemental payment based on the amount of fuel or electricity consumed by vehicle, wherein in response to receipt of the indication of the amount of fuel or electric consumed by the vehicle, the third party charges the owner/operator a supplement amount based on the amount of fuel or electricity used by the owner/operator.
