A solar-powered lighting system includes a flexible, wrap-around, preferably self-stick panel of photovoltaic laminate applied to the outside surface of a light pole. An LED light fixture is connected preferably at or near the top of the pole and has the same or similar diameter as the pole. The LED light fixture has multiple columns and rows of LEDs and an interior axial space for air flow to cool the LEDs. The pole preferably also has vents and axial passage(s) for creating a natural updraft through at least a portion of the pole and the light fixture, for cooling of the photovoltaic panel interior surface, the LEDs, and/or other equipment inside the fixture or pole, and batteries that may be provided inside the pole or pole base. A purely or mainly decorative additional fixture, which emulates conventional outdoor light fixtures, may be provided on the lighting system, wherein the decorative additional fixture includes no, or only a minimal, light source. The lighting system has a sleek profile with few or no protrusions from the sides of the pole and from the LED light fixture, except for the optional decorative fixture that provides a conventional street light appearance even though the main light source is the LED fixture.

A system for charging batteries of electric vehicles from public fixtures such as street lights and parking meters includes modifying the fixture to convert it to a vehicle battery charging station using a power interface module having a novel keyed electrical power output receptacle connectable to power mains powering the fixture. Apparatus and method embedding a camera in a street light includes structure and/or function whereby the street light, comprising has a first compartment having an LED array configured to illuminate an area beneath the street light. A second compartment is coupled to the first compartment and has a camera directed toward the area beneath the street light. The second compartment has a window covering the camera such that the camera can receive light from area beneath the street light, but passers-by do not see the camera. A third compartment is coupled to the second compartment and is configured to attach the street light to a vertical support. A passive air channel is disposed between the first compartment and the second compartment, and is configured to direct air from beneath the street light to the top of the street light. Preferably, the power supply for the LED array is disposed in a compartment different that the first compartment. An anti-glare device is preferably mounted to a bottom of at least one of the first compartment and the second compartment, and is configured to shield the camera from light glare and/or reflections from the LED array.

A surveillance system utilizing existing street lighting equipment. The present invention discloses an improved renewable energy and rechargeable LED lighting unit having a roadway/street light pole with a polygonal frame member configuration disposed there about. A plurality of solar panels affixed to the polygonal configuration. The solar panels include a plurality of electrical modules that are affixed directly to an interior wall of at least one of the solar panels without interfering with the polygonal frame member when attached. A two-part closure plate arrangement are attached directly to the polygonal frame member and completely enclose and seal the plurality of electrical modules between the frame member and the at least one of the solar panels.

An apparatus for providing power to an illumination device includes power produced by a wind turbine and a solar array. The algorithm of the invention has good robustness under complex environment such as incomplete or obscured street light, and the time complexity of the algorithm is very low, and thus the algorithm can be quickly applied to point clouds of large-scale scenes.

The invention discloses an environmental-data-based lighting system and method for fuzzy control of street lamps in different periods. The system comprises three components: single lamp controllers, a concentrated controller and a remote monitoring center. Combined with ZigBee short-range wireless network technology and GPRS remote wireless network technology, the system and method can achieve remote control on and information exchange among the street lights. In view of the fact that the control strategy for the street light control technology is too simple to meet the requirement of on-demand lighting under complicated and changing environmental factors, the invention provides an environmental-data-based lighting system and method for fuzzy control of street lamps in different periods. In the system and the method, the influencing factors regarding the environmental luminance at dawn and the dusk as well as the vehicles and pedestrians on street in the middle of the night are considered respectively, and through the fuzzy control methods adopted in different periods, it is possible to improve the control precision of the system so as to meet the dual requirement of both lighting quality and power conserving. According to the invention, it is not only possible to realize fuzzy control to the lighting of street lamps in different periods based on environmental data, but also possible to detect the power consumption of each street lamp, the tilting of a lamp post, and the road water in real time.

A system and device for using the power provided to street and area lights or other outdoor installations to power auxiliary devices which require a power supply which is different from line voltage for their power requirements. A device adapted to be connected to the NEMA three pole receptacle on a street or area light which converts the line voltage provided to the outdoor installation into a power form required by one or more auxiliary devices which cannot directly use the line current or voltage.
