Non-contact seal for a gas turbine engine

A seal comprises the combination of a primary seal and a secondary seal each of which acts on at least one shoe that is installed with clearance relative to one of a rotor and a stator in a position to create a non-contact seal therewith. The at least one shoe is provided with a surface geometry and labyrinth-type teeth that influence the inertia of fluid flowing across the seal, and, hence, the velocity of the fluid and the pressure distribution across the seal, ultimately affecting the balance of forces applied to the seal.

De novo or “universal” sequencing array

The present invention describes a novel nucleic acid sequencing reagent which consists of a capture moiety, a spacer region and a sequence specific hybridizing region of 4-8 bases. The nucleic acid sequencing reagent of the present invention can also contain an attachment moiety. The nucleic acid sequencing reagent can be arranged into a nested array. This array configuration can then be used to sequence a given template without prior knowledge (de novo) of the wild type or expected sequence in conjunction with primer extension in the presence of a labeled chain terminating nucleotide.

Apparatus and method for testing memory in a microprocessor

An apparatus and method are provided for testing memory circuits in a microprocessor. The apparatus includes test management logic and test execution logic located within the microprocessor. The test management logic has a non-specific test program stored therein, and it accepts test parameters provided by an external test controller. The test parameters are applied to the non-specific test program to produce a specific test program by inserting the test parameters in place of a plurality of non-specific test operands. The test execution logic executes the specific test program to test the memory circuits within the microprocessor at the internal speed of the microprocessor.

Hydrogen production method

A method of producing a hydrogen product stream in which a steam stream is reacted with a hydrocarbon containing stream within a steam methane reformer. The resulting product stream is subjected to a water gas shift reaction and then to pressure swing adsorption to produce the hydrogen product stream. The hydrocarbon stream is alternatively formed from a first type of feed stream made up of natural gas, refinery off-gas, naphtha or synthetic natural gas or combinations thereof and a second type that is additionally made up of a hydrogen and carbon monoxide containing gas. During use of both of the types of feed streams, the flow rate of the steam stream is not substantially changed and reformer exit temperatures of both the reactant and the flue gas side are held essentially constant.

Programmable precision current controlling apparatus

The present invention is a circuit for controlling current. In one embodiment, the high reference voltage input of a digital to analog converter is coupled with a reference voltage source which provides a positive reference voltage. A resistive load is coupled to an output of the digital to analog converter and to a circuit output pin. A sensing device couples the circuit output pin with the low reference voltage input of the digital to analog converter and to a reference ground input of the voltage source. The positive reference voltage, low reference voltage, and reference ground voltage are changed in response to the sensing device detecting a change in the output voltage.

Portable ultrasonic cleaner

The portable cleaning device of the present invention utilizes a forward housing which includes an ultrasonic radiator and an ultraviolet radiator. A rearwardly located detergent spray reservoir can be used to optionally apply what may preferably be a dilute solution of soap material. Once solvent is added to the soiled area, the ultrasonic front located area can be placed in contact with the wetted garment area and energized to bring the ultrasonic radiator into direct contact with the solution in contact with the soiled area. This enables less energy to be utilized due to the close proximity to a limited liquid volume in the immediate area of the fabric and closely co-located with the soiled mass. Actuation of a ultraviolet radiator is activated simultaneously with the actuation of the ultrasonic radiator to begin to help with the odor problem from the outset of the cleaning activity. The combination of ultrasonic and ultraviolet energy input also provides energy to the solvent within the fabric to both increase the efficiency of cleaning and to assist the evaporation of solvent. The portable cleaning device can also be utilized with other solvents supplied by the user.

Backlight control system and method using dither sampling

A controller device provides for local and global control of illumination color and intensity of a backlight. The controller architecture allows for optimization of an illumination surface and simultaneous sensing, analysis and control of each supported region of the surface to enable uniform light and color luminance output from the surface. The controller utilizes a temporal feedback mechanism which allows the use of monochrome sensors to control the color luminance output of the illumination system. The controller can be used during production of displays to set initial optimal conditions and also to continuously monitor and adjust backlighting during use of the display by the consumer. By using high frequency monitoring and control signals, as well as color blending, testing and correction can be conducted during use and beyond the threshold of perception of the human observer.
