45 results about "High water mark" patented technology

A high water mark is a point that represents the maximum rise of a body of water over land. Such a mark is often the result of a flood, but high water marks may reflect an all-time high, an annual high (highest level to which water rose that year) or the high point for some other division of time. Knowledge of the high water mark for an area is useful in managing the development of that area, particularly in making preparations for flood surges. High water marks from floods have been measured for planning purposes since at least as far back as the civilizations of ancient Egypt. It is a common practice to create a physical marker indicating one or more of the highest water marks for an area, usually with a line at the level to which the water rose, and a notation of the date on which this high water mark was set. This may be a free-standing flood level sign or other marker, or it may be affixed to a building or other structure that was standing at the time of the flood that set the mark.

Detecting and preventing replay in authentication systems

A system for detecting and preventing replay attacks includes a plurality of interconnected authentication servers, and one or more tokens for generating a one-time passcode and providing the one-time passcode to one of the authentication servers for authentication. The system includes an adjudicator function associated with each authentication server. The adjudicator evaluates a high water mark value associated with a token seeking authentication, allows authentication to proceed for the token if the high water mark evaluation indicates that the one-time passcode was not used in a previous authentication, and prevents authentication if the high water mark evaluation indicates that the one-time passcode was used in a previous authentication. The token is associated with a home authentication server that maintains a current high water mark of the token. The home authentication server validates the current high water mark on behalf of the adjudicator function evaluating the token for authentication.

System and method for combining multiple video streams

An operation for combining multiple video streams permits combining any number of overlay images and base images regardless of processes performed upon one or more of the images. Specifically, where the base images are dynamically sized and resized to provide a constant frame rate (despite varying frame complexity), the process similarly treats overlay images and even other base images. In the dynamic sizing process, a rendering time is compared to high and low water marks. During dynamic resizing, two double buffering operations and a synchronization operation are performed. After dynamic sizing and resizing, the resulting resized images are combined together, regardless of the frame rate of the individual images. Consequently, multiple video streams at varying frame rates are combined at a constant frame rate.

Publication of informational messages to software applications in a computing environment

A “push” based publication model in which messages are sent automatically to communicate event related data to other system applications when an event occurs that causes a change to a persistent data store. A shadow table stores records relating to information stored in the main table. Each record is assigned a sequentially ordered identification code. A high water mark table stores the identification number of the last message published for a group of messages, and thus points to where publication last stopped. By using sequentially ordered codes, it is readily apparent from a gap in the sequence codes whether a record / message is missing. The shadow table may be configured as an Index Ordered Table to eliminate a query “hop” from the index table to the shadow table. The persistent store is queried to identify changes in persistent store structure, and the message structure is modified automatically to reflect any changes.

Apparatus and method for mobile/IP handoff between a plurality of access technologies

An apparatus and method for performing Mobile / IP handoff between different access technologies. Associated with each access technology are two thresholds, a Low Water Mark and a High Water Mark. The method uses these water marks to its access technology selection in a particular environment. Using the method, a mobile node 102 remains on its preferred network when the signal strength on the preferred network (interface) is above the low water mark. When the signal strength on the preferred network drops below the high water mark, the method calculates the low water mark for the network. When the signal strength on the preferred network drops below the low water mark (LWM), the method initiates handoff to the next available network that meets certain conditions. The method initiates handoff back to the preferred network when the signal strength measurement on the preferred network is again above the high water mark.

Display of hierarchical datasets using high-water mark scrolling

Techniques are disclosed for the efficient display of hierarchical datasets using high-water mark scrolling. Certain techniques allow for the creation of simple, intuitive, and computationally inexpensive user interfaces for displaying hierarchical data sets. According to some embodiments, a defined number of items of a hierarchical list are presented in a hierarchical user interface module. This defined number of items may be referred to as a “high-water mark” value. When one of the items having associated child items (that are not currently displayed) is selected, one or more presented items in the hierarchical list are replaced with a corresponding one or more of the child items, thus maintaining a same number of displayed list items (i.e., the high-water mark number of displayed list items).

High water cut well measurements using heuristic salinity determination

Methods and systems for determining the amount of water in a high water cut crude petroleum flow stream exiting from a hydrocarbon well. Electrical property measurements such as permittivity measurements are collected with a microwave analyzer system as high water cut oil exits from a well. Collection is continued until the span of the measurements of at least one property reaches at least a characteristic pre-determined value. A heuristic salinity of the water phase of the crude oil can then be determined based on the span statistics and reference equations and / or reference data. The flow-weighted average water content of the oil can then be determined using the heuristic salinity to correct for salinity variation as the output of the well changes over time.

Dynamic write priority based on virtual write queue high water mark for set associative cache using cache cleaner when modified sets exceed threshold

A set associative cache is managed by a memory controller which places writeback instructions for modified (dirty) cache lines into a virtual write queue, determines when the number of the sets containing a modified cache line is greater than a high water mark, and elevates a priority of the writeback instructions over read operations. The controller can return the priority to normal when the number of modified sets is less than a low water mark. In an embodiment wherein the system memory device includes rank groups, the congruence classes can be mapped based on the rank groups. The number of writes pending in a rank group exceeding a different threshold can additionally be a requirement to trigger elevation of writeback priority. A dirty vector can be used to provide an indication that corresponding sets contain a modified cache line, particularly in least-recently used segments of the corresponding sets.
