Method and apparatus for providing ventilatory support to a patient

A ventilatory support system which controls the flow of breathing gas to a patient based on the physiological requirements of the patient is disclosed. Gas pressure in the trachea of the patient is measured, and the delivery of breathing gas to the patient is controlled based on the sensed gas pressure. Depending on the physiological needs of the patient, a tracheal gas pressure limit and a breathing gas flow rate value are established. When the tracheal gas pressure limit is reached, the flow of breathing gas is reduced or terminated. The flow of breathing gas is resumed, for example, after a delay period, or after the tracheal gas pressure falls to a predetermined level.

Method and disk drive for improving head position accuracy during track following through real-time identification of external vibration and monitoring of write-unsafe occurrences

A method is disclosed for improving head position accuracy in a disk drive during track following of concentric data storage tracks through real-time identification of external vibration and monitoring of write-unsafe (WUS) occurrences. In the method, after a seek operation to a predetermined data storage track, the track is followed using a servo control loop having a nominal gain and responsive to a position error signal (PES). After waiting a vibration detection delay period, occurrences of the PES exceeding a WUS limit are counted generating a WUS limit exception count. Also, a property of a variance is determined from spectral power values generated from the PES during track following. If the WUS limit exception count exceeds a first threshold, and if the property of the variance exceeds a second threshold, the nominal gain is increased to a vibration gain within a frequency band, to attenuate the effect of external vibration.

Method and apparatus for performing packet loss or frame erasure concealment

The invention concerns a method and apparatus for performing packet loss or Frame Erasure Concealment (FEC) for a speech coder that does not have a built-in or standard FEC process. A receiver with a decoder receives encoded frames of compressed speech information transmitted from an encoder. A lost frame detector at the receiver determines if an encoded frame has been lost or corrupted in transmission, or erased. If the encoded frame is not erased, the encoded frame is decoded by a decoder and a temporary memory is updated with the decoder's output. A predetermined delay period is applied and the audio frame is then output. If the lost frame detector determines that the encoded frame is erased, a FEC module applies a frame concealment process to the signal. The FEC processing produces natural sounding synthetic speech for the erased frames.

Method and system for transferring a cellular phone call

A method and system for automatically switching cellular telephone calls, in which a cellular telephone monitors the level of its battery power, and when the battery power level dips below a predetermined threshold, the cellular telephone sends a signal to a mobile switching center, which will automatically transfer the call to an alternate phone to continue the call or leave a message. The same system could be used to transfer the call if the cellular telephone goes out of service, for example by leaving the service area, hitting a "dead zone" of service, or having a technical problem with the equipment, but in these circumstances, the signal for initiating the transfer will originate with the mobile switching center, since the cellular telephone will not be in position to send further instructions. If the cellular telephone user has a replacement battery, the system could be set to first attempt to return the call to the original cellular telephone after a predetermined delay period, so that the call is not lost, and, if unsuccessful, then to a secondary number for either continuation of the call or taking a voice message from the sender if the mobile user is not near the alternate phone.

Devices, systems and methods for auto-delay video presentation

A computer implemented method for automatic presentation of delayed video. During normal operation real-time video feed is sent to a digital screen for presentation and is also sent to memory for storage. When a delay trigger is issued, the system either freezes the frame presented in that instance or stores a time indicator. The system then monitors delay time and, when the delay time is reached, the system starts fetching frames from the memory, starting either from the frame immediately following the frozen frame or from the frame that was stored at the time indicator, and sends these frames to the digital screen for presentation. The system then monitors delay period and, when the delay period arrive, the system reverts to normal mode wherein real-time video feed is sent to a digital screen for presentation and is also sent to memory for storage.

Inserting local signals during channel changes

An apparatus and a method for inserting and displaying one or more signals during processing and display delays encountered in digital STB-receivers, including those delays encountered during channel changes. Moreover, a means for increasing the channel change delay period, while maintaining subscriber satisfaction, and thereby freeing up bandwidth for other services, is provided. These signals can be advertisements, entertainment, or other messages. When a channel change request occurs on a digital set-top receiver, a local watchdog module detects the channel change event and causes to be generated a signal that is immediately displayed on the TV, while the MPEG-2 subsystem of the receiver acquires, stores, decodes and presents the new program to the television. Providing advertisements or entertainment during the delay period allows for increase in the delay period thus allowing for higher compression and increased availability of bandwidth.

System and method for capturing data signals using a data strobe signal

A signal capture system and method is used to capture a data signal using a data strobe signal having a preamble of strobe signal transitions. The system includes a data latch circuit receiving the data signal. The data latch circuit is clocked by transitions of the data strobe signal to capture respective bits of data corresponding to the data signal. A decoder receives a memory command signal and generates a data start signal after a delay period from receiving the memory command signal if the command signal corresponds to a read or a write command. The receipt of read or write command signals is used by a control circuit to identify the start of valid read or write data signals. The control circuit then outputs the captured data signals responsive to the data start signal, thereby ignoring the transitions in the preamble of the data strobe signal.

Multi-protocol low latency automatic speed negotiation architecture for an embedded high speed serial interface in a programmable logic device

A serial interface for a programmable logic device includes receiver and transmitter portions, and an automatic speed negotiation module to adjust the data rates of both portions. The speed adjustment may be accomplished by adjusting the widths of the data paths in both portions. The speed adjustment occurs on receipt of a control signal generated elsewhere on the programmable logic device, or generated by the module. One reason for generating the control signal is the detection of data errors in the received data, or the detection of a delimiter pattern in the received data signifying that a remote device is about to change its data rate.Similarly, before changing its data rate, the module may insert a delimiter in the data in the transmitter portion. After receipt or transmission of a delimiter pattern, the module may wait for a predetermined delay period to elapse before changing the data rate.

Apparatus and method for controlling switching power supply

An output voltage error detection unit outputs an auxiliary winding voltage generated across an auxiliary winding having the same number of turns as a secondary winding a certain period after a secondary conduction period starts. A correction amount calculation unit calculates a secondary voltage drop caused by a secondary current flowing in the conduction period based on a primary current flowing when the conduction period starts and outputs a calculation result as a correction amount. A reference voltage generation unit generates a reference voltage by adding the correction amount to the output voltage. A control unit generates a feedback signal to minimize the error between the auxiliary winding voltage obtained after a certain delay period and the reference voltage. A PWM signal generation unit controls a PWM signal based on the feedback signal, adjusts switching of the switching element, and maintains the output voltage at a constant level.
