Absorbent structure

The present invention relates to an absorbent structure, preferably for use in absorbent products, such as used in the food, consumer, household, building and construction, beauty and medical industry, and as used in the personal hygiene industry. The substantially cellulose free absorbent structures continuously immobilise absorbent polymer material via initial smaller pockets and subsequently larger compartments allowing excellent fluid management of the absorbent polymer material in dry, partially and fully liquid loaded state. Preferably such absorbent structure volume increases are result of temporary secondary attachment patterns made in combination with substantially permanent primary attachment grids allowing the release of bigger volumes from the initial smaller volumes by detachment of the secondary attachments. Furthermore the absorbent structure according to an embodiment of the invention non-homogeneously swells to form a liquid-managing surface structure as a result of exposing the absorbent structure to liquid. The present invention foresees in the need for improved flexible, thin, lightweight absorbent structures which overcome the absorbency problems of the prior art during absorption, distribution and retention of liquids with optimal fit.

Process for making a nonwoven, porous fabric from polymer composite materials

The present invention is a method for producing a nonwoven fabric from a water modifiable polyolefin-containing film. In order to produce the fabric where polyethylene is the minority constituent, a polymer blend is formed with the polyethylene as the dispersed phase and polyethylene oxide as the continuous phase. In another embodiment wherein the polyethylene is the majority constituent and the polyethylene oxide is the minority constituent of the film, a reactive blend created during processing exhibits an inverse phase morphology so that the polyethylene oxide becomes the continuous phase and the polyethylene becomes the dispersed phase. In either embodiment, the film is then treated with an aqueous solvent to remove the polyethylene oxide to produce the nonwoven, porous fabric. The resulting nonwoven, porous fabric has a silk-like hand and shine ideal for disposable personal hygiene articles, and is flushable through waste water disposal systems.

Colloidal nanoscale carriers for active hydrophilic substances and method for producing same

The invention "colloidal nanoscale carriers for active hydrophilic substances and method for producing same" pertains to the field of medical, odontological or hygiene preparations, and is characterized by structures formed by hydrophilic polymers that contain active hydrophilic substances coated with a non-hydrophilic phase and surfactants with affinity for the components, forming an invert emulsion that allows the incorporation and controlled delivery of active hydrophilic substances, conferring properties such as protection against degradation processes, improvement of compatibility with the other components of the formulation in the final product, increase in the availability and / or bioavailability of the active substance in the medium of interest (including improvements in permeation processes in biological materials, reduction of the exposure and volatilization of the active substance in the medium) and controlled release of the active substance(s). The nanoscale carrier obtained by this method, called colloidal nanoscale carrier (NC), can be used in various fields, such as the pharmaceutical field (including dermatology), cosmetics, personal hygiene products, veterinary medicine, agrochemicals and fertilizers, the food industry and the like. The invention proposes a kinetically stable system with an effective nanoscale structure that consists of nanoscale carriers formed by polymers emulsified in a non-aqueous medium in the presence of a surfactant with affinity for the two phases (the dispersion medium and the encapsulating agent). This system is obtained by nanoemulsification of an aqueous phase of hydrophilic polymers emulsified in a non-hydrophilic (lipophilic or silophilic) phase that contains the surfactants, and is characterized by the implementation of two concepts that encompass the generation of an invert nanoscale emulsion and of polymer nanoparticles. The formulation has the novel technical effect of providing a polymer excipient with a nanoscale structure for delivering hydrophilic molecules suspended in a non-hydrophilic phase, which allows controlling the size of the nanoscale particles and modulating colloidal stability by means of process parameters.
