Medical item dispensing apparatus

A medical item dispensing apparatus includes a dispenser (100) which encloses a plurality of magazines (168). Each magazine holds a plurality of medical items (170) which in the preferred form of the invention are cylindrical containers. Each magazine includes an opening (180). A guide (182) and a front gate member (194) are positioned adjacent to the opening. A back gate member (200) is positioned further inward from the opening than the front gate member. The front gate member and back gate member are moved in coordinated relation so that the front gate member enables a medical item adjacent the opening to pass through the opening while the back gate member moves to prevent the other medical items in the magazine from moving toward the opening. After the dispense of the medical item from the magazine the front gate member moves to block the passage of further medical items through the opening while the back gate member moves to enable medical items to move toward the opening. The magazines dispense medical items from the dispenser responsive to a user terminal (102). The user terminal is operatively connected to a computer (84) which includes a data store which maintains data representative of medical items taken for patients.

An air deflection apparatus for reduction of vehicular air drag comprises at least one air deflection element coupled to a rear portion of the vehicle but not to the rear-facing surface of the vehicle or, in other embodiments, at least one air deflection element coupled to a rear portion of the vehicle but not to any rear door which the vehicle may have. The air deflection elements are displaceable, preferably in unison, between a retracted position and at least one deployed position in which the air deflection elements intersect with the air flowing around the top and sides, and preferably also the bottom, of the vehicle, and in which they divert that airflow in a manner that enhances the aerodynamic characteristics of the vehicle and thereby improves its fuel economy, resulting in a reduction in fuel cost. The air deflection elements may be deployed and retracted manually, or remotely with powered assistance, or under microprocessor control, with the latter allowing for optimal positioning of the air deflection elements based either on pre-stored values, or on values derived, utilizing an optional feedback mechanism, from real-time vehicular speed and fuel consumption data. Vehicles equipped with the apparatus, and methods of reducing vehicular air drag using the apparatus, are also disclosed.

Electronic seal and method of shipping container tracking

An electronic device for the sealing of shipping containers is accessible through an RFID system controlled by a microprocessor having an internal memory. The device consists of a small case with a tamper and spoof proof security cable. One end of the cable is permanently attached to the case while the other end is threaded across the center door joint and around the two inner vertical locking rods of the container. The loose end is then inserted and locked into a port on the case, thereby activating the microprocessor. Attempts to access or enter the container through the rear doors will result in severing the cable, causing the time of this event to be logged in the memory of the electronic seal device. A separate electronic reader will access the logged memory of the device, and then transmit the logged data to a central database. The device has a unique and invariant electronic identification number that will be transmitted to a reader on demand. In addition, the case will have that same number embossed on the case cover as well as a printed bar code. The device also contains a real time clock that is activated at the time of initial activation.

Automatic closer of pop-up door of vehicle

A connection wire is connected to a part of a rear door popped up in a door-opening direction by an urging force. A pulley rotates responsive to a driving motor inside a wire-winding device to wind the connection wire thereon. In this manner, the rear door is automatically closed. The pulley is urged in a connection wire-winding direction by a power spring. A clutch is between the pulley and the driving motor. When the rear door is pressed by an operator's hands in a door-closing direction while the rear door is being closed, the pulley is rotated by the power spring, thus winding the connection wire thereon and preventing the connection wire from becoming loose. At this time, the connection between the pulley and the driving motor is cut off by the clutch. Thus, the pulley is rotated by the power spring freely and rapidly. In this manner, the rear door can be closed manually even while it is being closed automatically. Further, the connection wire can be prevented from becoming loose and from being sandwiched between the body of the vehicle and the periphery of a rear opening thereof.

Vehicle door opening and closing structure

A slider is provided on a rear door so as to be able to freely reciprocated, and the slider is connected to a vehicle body through a control arm and a driven arm. A linear cam groove and a curved cam groove continuous to the linear cam groove are formed in a guide plate fixed to the rear door. A control arm that controls an operation of the rear door includes a proximal portion rotatably attached to the slider and a pair of arm portions continuous to the proximal portion. The longer arm portion is attached to the vehicle body whereas the shorter arm portion is guided by the cam grooves. A projection amount of the rear door can be thereby set larger than a curve amount of the curved cam groove. In addition, a width of the guide plate can be thereby reduced. Therefore, the guide plate can be attached not to the vehicle body but to the rear door.
