TV and data cable system ingress noise blocker

This invention permits the upstream transmission of short packets of information in a cable TV system, and blocking upstream noise at all other times, and does so without interfering with image quality of normal TV viewing. A remotely operable ingress noise blocking filter is placed at the terminating junction between a subscriber's coaxial drop cable and a corresponding feeder tap in a cable TV system. The ingress noise blocking filter contains a high pass filter to pass the normal TV band. This high pass filter is bypassed by a section containing low pass filters and a switch operated when receiving a control signal from a cable modem during those short durations the cable modem is authorized to transmit an upstream signal. Low pass filters isolate the switching elements so that switching transients cannot occur in the downstream TV band. The level of the amplitude of the downstream signal is unaffected whether the switching elements are open or closed. Further, the switching arrangement provides a relatively constant impedance, both when the switching element is on and off to provide a high return loss and avoid signal reflections and maintain signal quality. In a diagnostic mode, the location of each noise source is determined by correlating the energy measured at each a set of frequencies across the band at the headend during those periods when the cable modem is allowed to transmit versus the energy received during those periods when the same cable modem is not authorized to transmit.

When transmitting a message from a selected one of the transceivers to a recipient communication device (115), the processing system of the transceiver selected is adapted to enable the transceiver circuit to monitor transmission energy in the communication medium during a time slot immediately preceding the time slot assigned to the transceiver selected (208, 210, 212), and if the energy measured is below a predetermined threshold, cause the transceiver circuit to transmit at least a portion of the message to the recipient communication device beginning at the time slot assigned to the transceiver selected (214, 216, 218, 220).

A method of initializing an ITU Recommendation G.729 Annex B voice activity detection (VAD) device is disclosed, having the steps of (1) extracting a set of parameters from a signal that characterize the signal; (2) calculating an energy measure of the signal from the set of parameters; (3) comparing the energy measure with a reference value; (4) determining an initial value for an average of a noise characteristic of the signal; and (5) counting the number of times the energy measure equals or exceeds the reference level.
Also disclosed is a method of converging an ITU Recommendation G.729 Annex B voice activity detection (VAD) device, having the steps of: (1) determining a noise identification threshold value; (2) comparing a number of energy measures of a signal to the noise threshold value; (3) determining a first value representing an average of the number of energy measures, when the energy measure is less than the noise threshold, wherein only the energy measures of the number of energy measures having values less than the noise threshold value are used to determine the first value; (4) determining a second value representing an average of the number of energy measures; and (5) substituting the first value for the second value when a specific event occurs, indicating the divergence of the two values.

The third light energy detector is arranged between the first light energy detector and a second light energy spot sensor, such that an influence of varied optics transmissivities between a first and a third light energy detectors is avoided. Therefore, a complicated transmissivity prediction model is not required. An accurate energy measured on a silicon surface can be obtained through simple reforming. Dose controlling can be carried out upon exposure fields according to the measuring results, such that dose accuracy can be improved.

The invention provides a frequency jitter circuit, comprising an oscillating circuit, a decoding circuit, a level selecting circuit and a comparator circuit, wherein the oscillating circuit is used for generating a sawtooth signal; an oscillation frequency signal is input into the decoding circuit and controls the decoding circuit to generate a plurality of pulse signals; the pulse signals control the level selecting circuit to generate an output level signal which varies along with variation of a pulse output signal; the comparator circuit is used for comparing the sawtooth signal of the oscillation frequency and the output level signal and generating a frequency jitter signal; and the duty ratio of the frequency jitter signal and the edge of turn-on/turn-off vary along with variation of the output level signal. The invention also provides a method for generating frequency jitter. The frequency jitter circuit provided by the invention has the advantages of simple lines and easy realization. Meanwhile, frequency jitter ensures the switching frequency to be in a wide frequency range, ensures the EMI energy measured by EMI equipment to be diffused beyond the bandwidth, reduces the average EMI noises and flattens the energy spectrum density of the EMI noises.
