A service includes verbally editing at least one parameter of a subscriber's advanced intelligent network (AIN) service using speech recognition functionality of an intelligent peripheral. A call is received from the subscriber at a switch, including a dialed number for editing the AIN service. A connection is established with the intelligent peripheral in response to the dialed number. Call service data, including the parameter, is retrieved from a database. The intelligent peripheral plays a voice announcement identifying the parameter to the subscriber, receives a voice instruction from the subscriber in response to the voice announcement and translates the voice instruction into digital command data relating to a change to the parameter. The digital command data and the change to the parameter are stored in the database for near real-time implementation. The intelligent peripheral and the database are likewise accessible by the subscriber through a packet switched data network.

The invention includes a protocol, systems and methods for operating, administering, and maintaining (OAM) physical links in a network that carries packet switched data. A network control point implementing the protocol assigns addresses to all ports of the network, discovers network topology and capabilities, and initializes remote parameters through OAM frames sent to the ports. The OAM protocol maintains all physical transmission links through the communication of OAM frames with information concerning link errors and the status of ports and boxes. A method of deliveries data and to a mobile node for receiving data delivered from a packet-switched data network. A first registration of the mobile node is performed to a first network of a first access technology, and an additional second registration of the mobile node is performed to a second network of a second access technology by using an address associated with the mobile node in said first network. An interface of the mobile node towards the second network is deactivated and the mobile node is set into an idle mode of the first network. When an incoming signaling of the first network is received at the mobile node, it is used as a trigger for activating the interface to the second network. Thereby, efficient data delivery via the second access technology, for example, WLAN technology, is allowed to bring down the communications charges and yet cellular efficient power consumption is achieved in idle mode, by camping on the first access technology, for example, cellular technology.

A system and method of providing, to a client, access to multiple packet data networks (PDNs), each PDN providing a dedicated PDN connection is disclosed. The client is provided with a number of virtual MAC addresses. Each of the virtual MAC addresses is assigned to a dedicated PDN connection and each dedicated PDN connection is associated with one of the packet data networks. One of the virtual MAC addresses is then delivered via a 4 address MAC frame when the client is communicating with the associated data service. The client may be a Wi-Fi client communicating with the associated data service over a cellular data network.

A method and apparatus are described for controlling transmission of user data between a user equipment and a packet data via a packet switched data network, such as an Evolved Packet System (EPS). An association is formed between the user equipment and one or more gateways in the packet switched data network. In some embodiments, one or more messages are sent to the user equipment indicating a capability of the one or more gateways to inhibit transmission of user data towards the user equipment; an indication is received from the user equipment to inhibit transmission of user data to the user equipment from the first gateway, and, in response, transmission of user data towards the user from at least one of the gateways is inhibited. This enables transmission of user data between a user equipment and a packet data network to be controlled.

A method and apparatus for optimizing routing through a data network is disclosed. Plural simulations are run on various links between network routers, and a central location may be used to compile the information from the links and calculate parameters of paths through the network. A graphical user interface to specify parameters of the simulations is also provided.

A method for communicating real time media data between a first client and a second client across a packet switched data network is provided. The method includes receiving an indication of a first client network address for use as a destination network address for sending media datagrams to the first client. A media datagram originated by the first client is also received. A comparison between the first client network address and a source network address extracted from the media datagram originated by the first client is made. A media datagram is sent to the first client using the source network address if the source network address and the first client network receiving address are not the same and the media datagram is sent to the first client using the first client network address if the source network address and the first client network address are the same.
