Voice enhancing for advance intelligent network services

A service includes verbally editing at least one parameter of a subscriber's advanced intelligent network (AIN) service using speech recognition functionality of an intelligent peripheral. A call is received from the subscriber at a switch, including a dialed number for editing the AIN service. A connection is established with the intelligent peripheral in response to the dialed number. Call service data, including the parameter, is retrieved from a database. The intelligent peripheral plays a voice announcement identifying the parameter to the subscriber, receives a voice instruction from the subscriber in response to the voice announcement and translates the voice instruction into digital command data relating to a change to the parameter. The digital command data and the change to the parameter are stored in the database for near real-time implementation. The intelligent peripheral and the database are likewise accessible by the subscriber through a packet switched data network.

Operations, administration and maintenance (OAM) systems and methods for packet switched data networks

The invention includes a protocol, systems and methods for operating, administering, and maintaining (OAM) physical links in a network that carries packet switched data. A network control point implementing the protocol assigns addresses to all ports of the network, discovers network topology and capabilities, and initializes remote parameters through OAM frames sent to the ports. The OAM protocol maintains all physical transmission links through the communication of OAM frames with information concerning link errors and the status of ports and boxes. The OAM frame has a preamble that is an inverse of a preamble of a data frame, allowing decoupling of the OAM and data services. The OAM frames are initiated and terminated at the physical layer of the network. Ports of the network may include ASIC integrated circuits that create, transmit, receive, and process the OAM frames at the physical layer of the ports.

International origin dependent customized routing of calls to toll-free numbers

A menu routing service routes calls made to a customer's toll-free number according to customized routing instructions, including instructions for routing calls originating in a non-domestic country. An international gateway receives a call to the toll-free number and populates a portion of a calling party number field with data indicating that the call originated in a non-domestic country. A network switch receives the call from the gateway based on at least an identification of a carrier associated with the toll-free number. A customized routing service platform receives the call and the non-domestic call origination data from the network switch. The platform determines a destination number based on the non-domestic call origination data and routing instructions received from a web server, accessible by the customer via a packet switched data network. The platform forwards the destination number to the network switch for routing the call to the destination number.

Access point supporting direct and indirect downstream delivery based on communication characteristics

An end-point device comprises multiple communication transceivers via which the end-point device associates with multiple access points. The multiple access points may belong to packet switched data networks that are communicatively incompatible. Each of the associated access points contributes a separate pathway for flow of data packets between the end-point device and a backbone network that communicatively connects all associated access points. Each of the associated access points receives and stores unique network addresses assigned to the end-point device by the associated access points and information corresponding to the associated pathways in respective memories. Each of the associated access points delivers data packets directly to the end-point device and / or indirectly via the backbone network and one of the remaining associated access points. An access point selects an indirect path via the backbone network for delivering the data packets based on the information received from the end-point device and / or a variety of communication characteristics. The access point uses a unique network address assigned by another access point to the end-point device when it routes the data packets via the another access point.

Delivering data to a mobile node in idle mode

A method of deliveries data and to a mobile node for receiving data delivered from a packet-switched data network. A first registration of the mobile node is performed to a first network of a first access technology, and an additional second registration of the mobile node is performed to a second network of a second access technology by using an address associated with the mobile node in said first network. An interface of the mobile node towards the second network is deactivated and the mobile node is set into an idle mode of the first network. When an incoming signaling of the first network is received at the mobile node, it is used as a trigger for activating the interface to the second network. Thereby, efficient data delivery via the second access technology, for example, WLAN technology, is allowed to bring down the communications charges and yet cellular efficient power consumption is achieved in idle mode, by camping on the first access technology, for example, cellular technology.

Controlling congestion in a packet switched data network

A method of controlling congestion in a packet switched network includes transmitting a pause message to a node upstream of a congested node to instruct it to cease sending for a period of time. The congested node also sends information to the upstream node informing it of the buffer size required to relieve congestion. If the buffer capacity of the upstream node is greater than or equal to the signalled amount required, no further action is taken. If the buffer capacity of the upstream node is less that the required amount, it in turn sends a pause message to a node upstream of it, together with an indication of the required buffer size to reduce congestion, taking into account the amount available from the sending nodes.

Optimized home link detection

The invention relates to a method for establishing by a mobile node an additional session via a connection to a packet data network in a mobile communication network and a mobile node and a packet data network gateway adapted to perform this method. In order to suggest optimized home link detection by a mobile node one aspect of the invention is to delay the decision on whether the mobile node is located on the home link or not. In conventional home link detection, the mobile node checks before sending any binding update on an access interface whether its prefix of the local IP address configured on that access interface is matching a home address prefix received during bootstrapping. According to one aspect of the invention, this home link detection is delayed in that home link detection is based on comparing a home address prefix received during bootstrapping and the advertised local prefix of a router advertisement received after bootstrapping.
