Methods, systems, and computer programs are presented for rendering images on a head mounted display (HMD). One method includes operations for tracking, with one or more first cameras inside the HMD, the gaze of a user and for tracking motion of the HMD. The motion of the HMD is tracked by analyzing images of the HMD taken with a second camera that is not in the HMD. Further, the method includes an operation for predicting the motion of the gaze of the user based on the gaze and the motion of the HMD. Rendering policies for a plurality of regions, defined on a view rendered by the HMD, are determined based on the predicted motion of the gaze. The images are rendered on the view based on the rendering policies.

A system and method are disclosed for reconstructing contrast-enhanced CT images that are substantially free of beam-hardening artifacts. An imaging system includes a radiation source configured to project radiation toward an object to be scanned and an energy discriminating detector assembly having a plurality of detector elements and configured to detect radiation emitted by the radiation source and attenuated by the object to be scanned. The imaging system also includes computer programmed to count a number of photons detected by each detector element and associate an energy value to each counted photon and determine a material composition of a CT view from the number of photons counted and the energy value associated with each counted photon. The computer is also programmed to apply a weighting to the CT view based on the material composition of the CT view and reconstruct an image with differential weighting based on the weighting of the CT view.

User end communication apparatus for managing broadcast channel input within a user end environment, comprises: a channel probe for obtaining channel context data from a stream at least passing through said user end communication apparatus; a keyword/key concept extractor for extracting channel keywords from the channel context data; and a content selector for selecting a content item or stream for mixing into a channel currently being viewed based on the channel keyword/key concept.

The present invention provides a system and method for recognizing a 3D object in a single camera image and for determining the 3D pose of the object with respect to the camera coordinate system. In one typical application, the 3D pose is used to make a robot pick up the object. A view-based approach is presented that does not show the drawbacks of previous methods because it is robust to image noise, object occlusions, clutter, and contrast changes. Furthermore, the 3D pose is determined with a high accuracy. Finally, the presented method allows the recognition of the 3D object as well as the determination of its 3D pose in a very short computation time, making it also suitable for real-time applications. These improvements are achieved by the methods disclosed herein.

A system and method for predicting what content a user wants to view based on such user's previous behavior and actions, comprising: receiving a cookie for every content page template in a web site; receiving a request for service of a content page; sending the content requested to a requester; for each content page sent, retrieving the cookie from the user; assigning a unique identifier (ID) to each new requester and storing the ID in the cookie; recording each ID, IP address, referrer, and time of request from the server; and storing the data recorded in a buffer for a period of time before storing it more permanently in a client-specific database. The system can be monetized by receiving fees from end users for presenting the content preferences or by receiving fees form content providers that include advertising related to the content preferences.

A system for automatically capturing an event of interest in a venue is disclosed, comprising a plurality of cameras for capturing video images of the event; and at least one processor communicatively connected to said plurality of cameras and con figured to execute a plurality of modules, said modules comprising a rectification module for combining the video images to form a wide-angle view; at least one of a motion analysis module configured for tracking salient blobs that are not part of a background of the wide-angle view, an activity analysis module configured for extracting temporal and spatial patterns from the wide-angle view, and a shape and appearance module configured for selecting one or more objects in the wide-angle view based on descriptors that are scale and rotational invariant; and a region of interest selector for selecting a viewpoint from the wide-angle view based on output from at least one of the motion analysis module, the activity analysis module, and the shape and appearance module, wherein the region of interest selector outputs the selected viewpoint for display. The system further comprises at least one audio recording device for capturing audio from the event; and means for synchronizing the video images and audio.

Various embodiments facilitate generation, distribution, and presentation of a video program on a virtual channel. In one embodiment, an electronic program guide (“EPG”) manager is provided for execution on a receiving device, such as a set-top box. The EPG manager receives from a program distributor a video stream that has plurality of video programs having program content. Each program has been preassigned for presentation on a particular channel. A virtual channel is linked to one or more users. The EPG manager tracks the types of programs that a user watches and records metadata associated with the programs that the user actually views. When sufficient data is stored in the data base, the virtual channel is provided that program that a user will likely wish to view based on this past viewing history.

A method for local archiving of e-mail messages in an e-mail client application according to various exemplary embodiments can include generating a mail thread including at least two e-mail messages transmitted and received between a message originator and at least one recipient; appending e-mail identification data into a header of the at least two e-mail messages when transmitted. The method may also include archiving related e-mail messages within the mail thread in an e-mail client application, comprising: searching for the related e-mail messages by identifying each e-mail message having a same message originator field; and merging non-redundant segments of each e-mail message into a single message document hierarchically by response level and timestamp. The method may further include displaying, on a display screen, the single message document according to a conversational view based upon a perspective of the response level of a user within the mail thread.

Techniques and tools are described for rendering views of a map in which map metadata elements are layered in 3D space through which a viewer navigates. Layering of metadata elements such as text labels in 3D space facilitates parallax and smooth motion effects for zoom-in, zoom-out and scrolling operations during map navigation. A computing device can determine a viewer position that is associated with a view altitude in 3D space, then render for display a map view based upon the viewer position and metadata elements layered at different metadata altitudes in 3D space. For example, the computing device places text labels in 3D space above features associated with the respective labels, at the metadata altitudes indicated for the respective labels. The computing device creates a map view from points of the placed labels and points of a surface layer of the map that are visible from the viewer position.

Methods and systems are provided for decluttering icons on a map graphically presented on a display. In one implementation, a method is provided for decluttering icons representing points-of-interest on a map, wherein the method includes determining whether icons in a map view are overlapping and grouping the icons which are determined to overlap into at least one icon group. The method may also include repositioning the icons in each icon group into a decluttered icon patterns, wherein repositioning includes repositioning the icons at a predetermined distance from a common focal point. In addition, the method may include adjusting the repositioned icons to a different position in the map view when the repositioned icons overlap. Additionally, or alternatively, the method may include repositioning an icon in at least one decluttered icon pattern to a new position in the map view based on input from a user.

Access control approaches are disclosed wherein managed object in Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) Management Information Bases (MIBs) are accessed on a per-Virtual Private Network (VPN)-basis with no modifications to existing MIBs. A manager and an SNMP Agent operating in a VPN environment agree on a mapping between SNMP securityNames and VPN IDs. Under the agreed mapping, the target VPN of any SNMP management request can be unambiguously determined from the securityName alone. For each securityName, one or more MIB Views are configured using in a View-based Access Control Model MIB (VACM MIB) table; the MIB Views specify which portions of the managed object tree can be viewed or modified by a corresponding VPN. Thereafter, a VPN-enabled device provides SNMP requests in which a VPN ID value is passed in the securityName field of the context string in the community string. The receiving device extracts the securityName, locates corresponding MIB Views using the VACM MIB table, and allows the requesting device to access only objects that are identified in the MIB Views.

The motion estimation and compensation are performed on a panorama image with a 360° omni-directional view based on that the spatial relation between left and right borders of the panorama image is very high. Accordingly, it is possible to improve image quality through effective and precise estimation and compensation for the motion of a panorama image. In particular, it is possible to improve the image quality at the right and left edges of the panorama image.

Systems and methods for transitioning between alternate views when rendering A/V content in a computing system are provided. In various embodiments, a “Now Playing” state is exposed to a user experiencing media on a media device via a user interface, wherein the “Now Playing” state has a plurality of associated “Now Playing” views. The user interface allows the user to change “Now Playing” views based on media type and, if desirable, offer quick access settings. Advantageously, when transitioning between or cycling through the “Now Playing” views, the state of the user interface remains the “Now Playing” state.

Presenting a view based on a virtual viewpoint in a three dimensional (3D) scene. The 3D scene may be presented by at least one display, which includes displaying at least one stereoscopic image of the 3D scene by the display(s). The 3D scene may be presented according to a first viewpoint. A virtual viewpoint may be determined within the 3D scene that is different than the first viewpoint. The view of the 3D scene may be presented on the display(s) according to the virtual viewpoint and/or the first view point.
