120 results about "Wheelchair Wheels" patented technology

A wheel is a circular component that is intended to rotate on an axial bearing and are used to support and to provide a means of moving the wheelchair. These wheels can be rotated manually by the user or power-assisted with batteries. Wheelchair wheels are typically between 22 to 26 inches (56 to 66 cm) in diameter. Smaller wheels, typically between 3 and 8 inches (7 to 20 cm) in diameter and between 1 and 2 inches (2.5 to 5 cm) in width, are sometimes called casters. Wheelchairs typically have two sets of wheels, 2 larger ones and 2 smaller ones. The wheels can be placed on the front, middle, or rear of the wheelchair, depending upon its design.

Treadmill for wheelchair

A treadmill includes a braking device incorporated in the body of the treadmill and operated for applying a resistance or load against the rotary motion of treadmill rollers on which a wheelchair's side wheels are supported. The angle of inclination of the treadmill rollers may be adjusted according to any variation in the angle of inclination for the wheelchair wheels supported by the treadmill rollers. To this end, the user of the wheelchair can adjust the angle of inclination for the treadmill rollers. A guide member for supporting the front wheel of the wheelchair may also be included, and the guide member can be adjusted to accommodate practically all types and sizes of the wheelchair. A central control panel is provided at a particular single point on the treadmill for enabling the user of the wheelchair to control the braking device, adjust the angle of inclination, and moving the guide member.

Wheelchair propulsive mechanism

A wheelchair propulsion system provides a wheelchair user with a continuous input drive path of linear or elliptical shape. The propulsion system includes a Cardan gear system defining a linear reciprocating or elliptical input path over which propulsive force may be continuously applied to the wheelchair wheels. Because the input path is continuous, efficiency is increased and impact on the user's body is reduced thereby reducing discomfort and physical demands on the user's body. The angle of the input path may be altered to suit the particular needs of a user by rearrangement of the relative angular orientations of the gears in the propulsive system. The present propulsive mechanism may be integrated into a wheelchair or retrofitted to existing wheelchairs.

Rear wheel mount and optional suspension for wheelchair

A wheel mount may generally be comprised of an axle plate and a camber tube clamp that may be height adjustable with respect to the axle plate. The camber tube clamp can be selectively mountable upright or inverted so as to increase an overall range of height adjustability. The camber tube clamp can be mountable in front of or behind the axle plate so as to increase an overall range of center-of-gravity adjustability. The camber tube clamp and the axle plate may have an interlocking feature that may allow the camber tube clamp to slide vertically along the axle plate to facilitate height adjustment. A seat collar can be positioned at various locations along a wheelchair frame for center-of-gravity adjustment. The axle plate can be detached from and attached to the seat tube collar to allow the axle plate and camber tube clamp to be reverse mounted in order to increase the range of center of gravity adjustment. A wheelchair suspension system according to the invention may be comprised of a swing arm and at least one elastomer. The swing arm may be adapted to support a rear wheelchair wheel and pivot about an axis substantially fixed to a wheelchair frame. The swing arm can be suspended between two of the elastomers, or be operatively connected to one elastomer so that displacement of the swing arm in either direction about the pivot causes the elastomer to compress.
