118 results about "Wheelchair Wheels" patented technology

A wheel is a circular component that is intended to rotate on an axial bearing and are used to support and to provide a means of moving the wheelchair. These wheels can be rotated manually by the user or power-assisted with batteries. Wheelchair wheels are typically between 22 to 26 inches (56 to 66 cm) in diameter. Smaller wheels, typically between 3 and 8 inches (7 to 20 cm) in diameter and between 1 and 2 inches (2.5 to 5 cm) in width, are sometimes called casters. Wheelchairs typically have two sets of wheels, 2 larger ones and 2 smaller ones. The wheels can be placed on the front, middle, or rear of the wheelchair, depending upon its design.

Automated wheelchair

An automated wheelchair for moving over a contact surface. The automated wheelchair includes an operator chair for seating the wheelchair operator, a control computer, an operator input device for transmitting operator inputs to the control computer, and two wheelchair wheels for propelling the wheelchair. Each wheelchair wheel includes extendable and retractable spokes. The extension and retraction of each spoke is controlled by a motor. At the ends of each spoke are contact sensor devices. The control computer is programmed to receive inputs transmitted from the contact sensor devices to generate a terrain profile. The control computer generates and sends control signals to each spoke motor in response to the operator inputs and in response to the terrain profile generated by the contact sensor devices. In a preferred embodiment the contact sensor devices are pressure sensor devices. Also in a preferred embodiment, rotatable pneumatic wheels are attached to both ends of each spoke. Preferably, a brake is applied to at least one pneumatic wheel per wheelchair wheel while the wheelchair is moving over the contact surface. Preferably, the automated wheelchair is capable of moving over a variety of contact surface types, including: a set of stairs with uniform rise to run ratio, a set of stairs with non-uniform rise to run ratio, a set of straight stairs, a set of curved stairs, over a curb or over rough terrain.

Rear wheel mount and optional suspension for wheelchair

A wheel mount may generally be comprised of an axle plate and a camber tube clamp that may be height adjustable with respect to the axle plate. The camber tube clamp can be selectively mountable upright or inverted so as to increase an overall range of height adjustability. The camber tube clamp can be mountable in front of or behind the axle plate so as to increase an overall range of center-of-gravity adjustability. The camber tube clamp and the axle plate may have an interlocking feature that may allow the camber tube clamp to slide vertically along the axle plate to facilitate height adjustment. A seat collar can be positioned at various locations along a wheelchair frame for center-of-gravity adjustment. The axle plate can be detached from and attached to the seat tube collar to allow the axle plate and camber tube clamp to be reverse mounted in order to increase the range of center of gravity adjustment. A wheelchair suspension system according to the invention may be comprised of a swing arm and at least one elastomer. The swing arm may be adapted to support a rear wheelchair wheel and pivot about an axis substantially fixed to a wheelchair frame. The swing arm can be suspended between two of the elastomers, or be operatively connected to one elastomer so that displacement of the swing arm in either direction about the pivot causes the elastomer to compress.

The present invention relates to an improved garment for keeping babies, children and adults warm when in a seated position and more particularly, though not necessarily, to an improved blanket for wearing when in a chair, buggy, wheelchair or the like. It is known to use a blanket to provide warmth to the legs of a wheelchair user. Typically, the blanket is placed upon the thighs; warmth my thereby be retained by the user, albeit be subjected to draughts. However such a blanket is often at least one of bulky, loose, ill fitting, and draughty. Also, it may be dangerous because it may slip off and get caught around the wheelchair wheels, and would be liable to cause an accident. Also, an ordinary blanket often does not provide adequate heat to the user's legs. While parts of the user's legs may be warm there are many gaps allowing any heat that had been retained to be lost. Also when the blanket falls off, all heat will be lost. The present invention seeks to provide, in a general sense, a garment that can securely, repeatedly and conveniently be attached to a seated person, whereby to assist in protecting the person from becoming too cold or too hot. The invention may also be used to protect the wearer in the event that there is some it is raining or from another form of precipitation. According to a first aspect of the present invention there is provided a garment for a seated person, the garment comprising: a first panel configured to fit over the lap of a user, a second panel configured to fit around the lower legs of the user; fastening means operable to enable the second panel to be retained around the legs of the user.
