The present invention relates to methods and devices for the treatment of disc disease and spinal deformities with an artificial disc replacement.

The present invention provides an implantable joint prosthesis configured to replace a natural joint, and methods for implantation. The prosthesis may include a first component implantable in a first bone, having a first bearing surface, and a second component implantable in a second bone, having a second bearing surface which corresponds to the first bearing surface. Each bearing surface may include a flattened section such that when the bearing surfaces are placed in cooperation with one another in a preferred orientation, the flattened sections are aligned. Alternatively, the bearing surfaces may have and asymmetric configuration, with non-congruent surfaces that may enable correction of deformity. Several types of implantable joint prostheses are disclosed, including: carpometacarpal, metacarpophalangeal, metatarsophalangeal, distal interphalangeal, proximal interphalangeal, ankle, knee, shoulder, and hip.

A battery management system for monitoring a plurality of interconnected batteries comprises a plurality of interconnected modules arranged for connection to respective ones of the batteries. Each module comprises a negative terminal connector, a positive terminal connector, a voltage sensor for measuring voltage between the terminals, a communication port arranged to communicate the sensed voltage to other modules, and a controller arranged to selectively connect a resistive element between the negative terminal connector and the positive terminal connector of the respective battery responsive to the sensed voltage being greater than sensed voltages of other modules. A temperature sensor on each module measures a temperature through the terminal of the battery for communication to the system. A printed circuit board, arranged to be supported directly on one of the battery terminals, commonly supports the voltage sensor, the temperature sensor and the communication port thereon.

The present invention provides a flexible support assembly for supporting and/or locating a fixture on a tooling plate. The support assembly includes a stanchion with a bore, and a threaded portion on an inner-diameter surface thereof. A base plate is attached to, and configured to repositionably fix the stanchion to the tooling plate. A cylindrical sleeve with a threaded portion on an outer-diameter surface thereof is threadably engaged with the stanchion, whereby the sleeve is operable to telescope with respect to the stanchion between a first, lowest position and a second, highest position. A nut is threadably engaged with the sleeve to lock the sleeve at any predetermined position between the first and second positions. A locator pin is releasably engaged with the sleeve at a first end thereof.
