Technique for efficient load balancing of TE-LSPs

A technique efficiently load balances traffic engineering (TE) label switched paths (LSPs) from a head-end node to a tail-end node of a computer network. The novel load balancing technique identifies (e.g., at the head-end node or a path computation element, PCE) a set of paths with equal costs from the head-end node to the tail-end node, where each path of the set is composed of one or more associated links. “Link values” such as, e.g., the number of unconstrained TE-LSPs on the link, the amount of available bandwidth on the link, or the percent of total available bandwidth already in use on the link, are applied to each link of each path. The most restrictive link values (link availability) of each path of the set, such as, e.g., the link with the lowest amount of available bandwidth, etc., are then compared. Upon comparing the link availability, the novel technique load balances established and / or new TE-LSPs from the head-end node to the tail-end node over the set of paths accordingly.

Statistical multiplexing of compressed video streams

Described are computer-based methods and apparatuses, including computer program products, for statistical multiplexing of compressed video streams. A deadline of a packet of a compressed video stream is computed based on a program clock reference value of the packet. A plurality of packets, which includes the packet, is sorted based on deadlines corresponding to the packets. A next packet from the sorted plurality of packets is selected, the next packet having a corresponding deadline nearest to a system clock time. The next packet is transmitted.

Load balancing content requests using dynamic document generation cost information

Methods, systems, computer program products, and methods of doing business by performing load balancing of content requests using information regarding the cost of dynamically creating the requested document content. Cost metrics are gathered by a server which generates requested content, and may reflect processing at one or more other servers. This cost information is provided to a load balancing host. Several alternative approaches for providing the cost metrics may be used, including defining new headers for response messages, specifying cookie values, and so forth. The load balancing host may choose to route a subsequent request for that content to the server which most recently generated the content, or to another available server, depending on the cost of re-generating the content and the current load on those servers.

Color balancing circuit for a display panel

A color balancing circuit for a flat panel display such as an electroluminescent display generates a primary current that can be varied to adjust the overall brightness of the display. Three currents related to the primary current by selectable ratios are generated, by current mirror circuits, for example; the ratios can be individually varied to adjust the color balance. Driving currents are generated from the three adjusted currents, by mirroring the adjusted currents, for example, and are used to drive display elements that emit light in the three primary colors. Image brightness and color balance can accordingly be adjusted separately, even though both are adjusted by adjusting the driving current. Circuit size is reduced in that the same primary current is used for all three primary colors.

Wireless wall thermostat

The wireless wall thermostat of the present invention utilizes a push-contact mechanical system that allows a user to raise or lower the temperature within a space by applying a force on the top or bottom center of the front of the thermostat. The perpendicular force applied by the user generates a moment arm around pivot connectors, which rotates the thermostat clockwise or counter-clockwise. When rotated clockwise or counter-clockwise, contact buttons attached to the back of the thermostat come into contact with the trigger tabs of a stationary trigger plate mounted to a wall through use of an electromagnetic attraction between a steel disc and a magnet. When the trigger tabs press the contact buttons, the contact buttons send a signal to the central processing unit of the thermostat's internal circuit board to modulate the temperature setting. In addition, the wireless wall thermostat can be detachable by utilizing a magnetic release smart mount.

Borrowing threads as a form of load balancing in a multiprocessor data processing system

A method and system in a multiprocessor data processing system (MDPS) that enable efficient load balancing between a first processor with idle processor cycles in a first MCM (multi-chip module) and a second busy processor in a second MCM, without significant degradation to the thread's execution efficiency when allocated to the idle processor cycles. A load balancing algorithm is provided that supports both stealing and borrowing of threads across MCMs. An idle processor is allowed to “borrow” a thread from a busy processor in another memory domain (i.e., across MCMs). The thread is borrowed for a single dispatch cycle at a time. When the dispatch cycle is completed, the thread is released back to its parent processor. No change in the memory allocation of the borrowed thread occurs during the dispatch cycle.

Skills-based automatic call distribution system

A skills based telephone call distribution system is disclosed. The system determines the informational needs of an incoming caller and defines a set of skills an agent should possess to serve the caller. A search is performed for an available agent possessing the skill set. Upon the search failing to locate an available agent possessing the skill set, the amount of time the caller may expect to wait therefor is estimated. The estimated time is compared to a maximum waiting time. If the estimated time is greater than the maximum waiting time, then the skill set is redefined to include a greater number of agents who may serve the caller. A new search is performed for an available agent possessing the redefined skill set.

Method and apparatus for optimizing the combustion air system in a recovery boiler

A method and an apparatus for optimizing the combustion air system in a power boiler or chemical recovery boiler by improving fluid flow and gas mixing are disclosed, whereby one can increase boiler capacity and combustion uniformity and reduce particulate and gaseous emissions. The method involves interlacing of the secondary and, where applicable, the tertiary air supply through opposing air ports on all four walls of the boiler, and is implemented by alternately opening wide or partially closing a port damper on one side, while partially closing or opening wide a port damper on the opposite side, such that a 70-100% open damper on one side opposes a partially closed (10-40% open) damper on the other and vice versa in an alternating fashion, along opposing walls. In a preferred embodiment, the optimization is further enhanced by balancing primary air flow, achieved by adjusting port dampers and windbox pressures so that the primary air flow is evenly distributed between opposite walls, between all four walls of the boiler and between individual airports on each wall. Windbox pressure and other key measurements of boiler operation ensure proper balancing and an adequate interlacing of air flows at the primary, secondary and tertiary elevations, respectively.

Measurement-Based Admission Control For Wireless Packet Data Services

A call admission control technique is described which is well-suited for wireless systems providing real-time services over a shared downlink. The call admission control technique considers both multiplexing and multi-user diversity gain. The technique accurately determines the multi-user diversity gain by measuring per-user resource allocation and advantageously maximizes user accommodations under quality-of-service (QoS) as well as location-dependent resource availability constraints. In a further aspect, the call admission control technique is combined with delay-based scheduling, which effectively balances between system efficiency (channel exploitation) and user expectation (e.g., QoS). A system embodying the described call admission control and scheduling techniques can advantageously deliver efficient real-time services and remain robust to different load scenarios that vary according to system dynamics and / or user mobility.
