The invention provides a frequency control method for controlling a target frequency of a variable refrigerant flow air conditioner. The frequency control method comprises the following steps of acquiring a current external environment temperature and a pressure value of an exhaust pipe of a compressor of the air conditioner; judging whether the time of continuous operation of the compressor at the moment is greater than a preset time threshold value or not; if so, adjusting the frequency of the compressor according to the pressure value; and otherwise, adjusting the frequency of the compressor according to the external environment temperature. Different frequency control modes are selected according to the operating time of the compressor. In an initial starting stage of the compressor, parameters of a system are unstable. The frequency of the compressor is adjusted according to the parameter: the external environment temperature which is not affected by system operation in the air conditioner. When the compressor operates stably, the frequency of the compressor is adjusted according to a pressure value of the exhaust pipe, so that the frequency control method is suitable for controlling the frequency of the compressor, including a water heater, in an indoor unit of the variable refrigerant flow air conditioner.
