Compression/distraction osteotomy system, plate, method, drill guide and saw guide

An osteotomy system includes anchoring screws and advancement screws having a head with a surface defining a first angled plane. A plate has anchoring holes and advancement holes with countersunk surfaces defining respective second angled planes for compression or distraction. The first angled plane contacts one of the second angled planes upon tightening an advancement screw, causing advancement of the plate and step compression or distraction of one bone segment relative to another. In another embodiment, a wedge has a surface defining a first angled plane. A plate has one portion with inclined surfaces defining second angled planes. An advancement screw tightens the first angled plane against one of the second angled planes to advance one of the plate body portions for compression or distraction of one bone segment attached thereto relative to another segment. Accommodating zonular mini-bridge implants

Surgical correction of presbyopia and hyperopia by a circularly distributed assembly of mini-bridges implanted between the interior surfaces of the ciliary muscle and the exterior surface of the lens capsule, for augmenting the transmission of the contraction force of the ciliary muscle / zonule assembly to the lens capsule. The lens is symmetrically squeezed by mini-bridges acting in concert with the ciliary muscle thus changing the curvature of the lens. The mini-bridges are composite synthetic muscles comprising either passive biocompatible mini-bridges made with polymeric gels, silicone polymers or a composite, electromagnetically or mechanically deployable mini-bridges, inflatable balloons or synthetic muscles. The surgical procedure comprises using a ciliary muscle relaxant to stretch the lens / zonules / ciliary muscle assembly. An ultrasonic biomicroscope (UBM) is then used to enable the surgeon to see the area for implantation and the mini-bridges and thus perform endoscopic or incisional surgery to implant the mini-bridges in and around zonular cavities.

Partial cuff

To increase the resistance to liquid and substance flow through a lumen of a tubular organ, a cuff comprising a flexible, mesh base member is appended to an exterior wall of the tubular organ such that it only partially surrounds the tubular organ. Ultimately, tissue ingrowth through the mesh base member integrates the cuff into the wall of the tubular organ. When the cuff is applied to the urethra of an incontinent patient, the increased resistance to flow renders the patient continent while still allowing normal voiding. The base member may also support an optional expandable component, e.g., a balloon-like element that can be selectively inflated and / or deflated to restrict the lumen of the tubular organ by a desired degree.

Intraocular lens system

The present invention discloses a multi-component intraocular lens implanted in an optical system of a human eye, including one or more foldable removable components, each component being foldable. One component acts as a base lens, including a flange with an aperture. Another component acts as a mid lens, including a tab which engages the aperture. A third component acts as a top lens, which engages the mid lens. Because the lens components are foldable, they may be inserted into the eye using an incision smaller than the diameter of the unfolded lens. The removable components may be used to correct various medical conditions of the eye, as well as to improve and enhance vision, and for cosmetic purposes.
