An exhaust port is provided that is capable of being fluidly coupled to the exhaust gas output of the ventilation system for allowing gas to pass from the inside air space to the exhaust gas output of the ventilation system. The exhaust port and vent are capable of cooperatively exerting a negative pressure on the outside air space adjacent to the face mask for preventing inspiratory gas from entering the outside air space adjacent to the face mask.
