Business process management (BPM) is a discipline in operations management in which people use various methods to discover, model, analyze, measure, improve, optimize, and automate business processes. Any combination of methods used to manage a company's business processes is BPM. Processes can be structured and repeatable or unstructured and variable. Though not required, enabling technologies are often used with BPM.

Dynamically optimized distributed cloud computing-based business process management (BPM) system

A workflow server can receive requests, each for a business process workflow conforming to a business process model. Each business process workflow can include a set of interdependent tasks. The workflow server can satisfy received requests by assigning tasks to different service providers that provide software services. Each of the tasks can be assigned to corresponding ones of the software services. For each task, the workflow server can also defines an allocated cost per software service, and a time allocation per software service for completing the corresponding one of the tasks. Different service providers, including those assigned to tasks, can receive information for ones of the tasks not directly assigned to them by the workflow server. The different service providers can then bid on these tasks. Wherein when bids are won, tasks for a business process flow can be reassigned based on winning bids.

Process management system and method

A business process or project management system provides for creation of a project or process definition which includes all activities required to complete the process as well as any dependencies, conditions, and deadlines for each activity, and participants designated to carry out the activities. Once the process is started, activities are carried out in turn when the dependencies and conditions are met, and the system updates when any activities are complete so that any activities dependent on completed activities can be started. A reporting module creates status reports for each activity which are displayed to a user such as an administrator on a user interface. Stored information on previous instances of an activity are used to predict when an activity is likely to be late and to provide alerts to users prior to starting the activity.

System and method for managing a business process and business process content

Aspects of the invention relate to a method and system to manage a business process and business process content, comprising a content management system that includes efficiency-improving and workflow features. Efficiency-improving features allow several people involved in a business process, including those residing in different locations, to store and access documents in a central repository of a content management system. Further, these features manage business process content that include functions such as document handling and searching capabilities that allow users to navigate, search, and develop business content efficiently. In addition, the business process becomes a virtual electronic environment without the need for redundant physical files spread throughout different offices. Alternatively, workflow features allow personnel involved upstream of the business process to record and complete their own tasks, and then annotate and route documents to downstream personnel to facilitate their tasks as part of the business process.

Application workflow integration subsystem

A computer-implemented method, system and computer program product for integrating an application engine with processes depicted by a flow-chart created by a Business Process Management (BPM) engine are presented. Execution of a first application, which is generated by a first application engine, is initiated. The first application performs a first subtask that is depicted by a first component of a flow-chart that has been previously generated by the BPM engine. A Workflow Integration Subsystem (WIS), which provides an interface between the first application engine and the BPM engine, selects the flow-chart that contains the first subtask performed by the first application. The BPM engine calls other application engines to perform other subtasks that supplement the first subtask, such that the first subtask and the other subtasks combine to perform an entire task that is depicted by the flow-chart.

Enabling workflow awareness within a business process management (BPM) system

Enabling workflow awareness within a business process management (BPM) system can utilize a workflow awareness controller that can receive an instantiation request for a workflow. The workflow can be comprised of multiple workflow steps to be performed by the BPM system. From workflow metadata, workflow redundancies, at the instance or step level, can be determined with other workflow instances initiated prior to the receipt of the instantiation request. The workflow metadata can include records that uniquely represent the operating parameter values of the prior workflow instances. When a workflow redundancy exists, persistent workflow data corresponding to the workflow redundancy can be utilized during the performance of a workflow instance of the requested workflow within the BPM system. The persistent workflow data can replace the performance of one or more workflow steps of the workflow instance, which can reduce the redundant performance of the workflow steps for the requested workflow.
