37 results about "Indexed color" patented technology

In computing, indexed color is a technique to manage digital images' colors in a limited fashion, in order to save computer memory and file storage, while speeding up display refresh and file transfers. It is a form of vector quantization compression.

Image compression method and apparatus, and image coding method and apparatus

There are provided an image coding method and apparatus and image compression method and apparatus which can properly compress a color document image with a high compression efficiency. First of all, a color reduction processing unit (102) converts each pixel of a color document image into an index assigned in correspondence with a color value, and generates color information (103) containing the number of pixels for each indexed color and an index color image (104). A color information sort unit (105) and the like determine, for example, a color value corresponding to an index of the maximum number of pixels as a background color. An order determination unit (113) determines an order. A binary image generation compression unit (109) generates a partial binary image for each index and compresses the binary image according to the order. A data integrating unit (111) generates compressed image (112) by integrating background data (108) and the compressed data of the partial binary image.

Methods and systems for controlling out-of-gamut memory and index colors

InactiveUS20050030560A1Improved out-of-gamut color controlEfficient and clean color renderingDigitally marking record carriersDigital computer detailsImaging processingGamut
Methods and systems in an image processing device for controlling colors that are located external to a gamut are disclosed. A plurality of color values can be automatically provided as input to said image processing device, wherein said image processing device is under a control of a particular dimensional order, typically a three-dimensional order, but alternatively can be a two-dimensional order. Next, an operation can be performed dynamically determining which color value among the plurality of color values has attained a gamut limit. Thereafter, the particular dimensional order can be automatically reduced, thereby providing improved control for colors that are located external to said gamut. The plurality of color values analyzed is generally associated with three colors—cyan, magenta, and yellow.

A scan conversion is provided which allows the scan converter to work with data in its most convenient format in a radar memory. A displayable image is mirrored to a graphics memory simultaneously with the write portion of the radar memory of the scan conversion process. On every write to the radar memory, radar data is simultaneously converted to associated colors by indexing a color look-up table and writing the indexed color to the graphics memory. A simulated phosphor decay for the display is provided by decreasing the intensity of each pixel in the radar memory once each antenna scan and similarly decreasing the intensity of data in corresponding locations in the graphics memory to simulate the decay of a phosphor coated screen in a CRT display. Image generation system, program, information storage medium and image generation method

An α-value αP1 corresponding to a Z-value of each pixel in an original image and an α-nonuniformity setting α-value a UP which is a nonuniform α-value in a virtual plane are synthesized into an α-value αP2. The color ICP of the original image and the fog color CP are synthesized into a fog image, based on the α-value αP2. A plurality of α-nonuniformity setting α-values provided for the virtual planes different in nonuniformity pattern are synthesized. The nonuniformity patterns are changed depending on the virtual camera information and time information. An α-value used to synthesize the α-nonuniformity setting α-values is set based on a Z-value of each pixel in the original image. A Z-value of each pixel in the original image is used as an index number of a lookup table and the index color texture mapping is applied to a virtual object to convert the Z-value into an α-value.

Method and apparatus for image compression that employs multiple index color history buffers

A single source image encoder encodes more than one display stream, such as multiple display streams each for a different display or multiple display streams for the same display, using multiple index color history (ICH) buffers. As applied to a DSC encoder, the same DSC encoder is used to encode more than one DSC compliant display stream. Multiple encoded display bitstreams are output as multiple display data streams to a plurality of displays. Such a configuration can significantly reduce the area cost of an integrated circuit that employs an image encoder since additional encoders are eliminated.

Method and apparatus for using a color table scheme for displaying information on either color or monochrome display

A method and system of determining the screen capability and rendering the appropriate display attribute is herein described. The present invention performs this task by using a color table, which contains a list of object types and a corresponding list of display attributes. The application program obtains the correct display attribute for the object by calling the color table, giving it an identifier of the object. The color table is indexed by the identifier of the object and a screen capability flag that is obtained, in one embodiment, from the operating system. The color table provides the display attribute for the specified object based on the screen capability flag. Advantageously, the application program does not need to know the computer's display capability. Furthermore, the application program needs only one piece of computer code, regardless of the number of display capabilities which are possible. Thus, memory space in the palmtop is conserved. In another embodiment of the present invention, the application program is allowed to modify the default values of the display attributes in the color table. Thus, an application program could use its own color to display an object if the default color is undesirable.
