Automatic vehicle door locking/unlocking apparatus

An apparatus automatically locks the doors of a vehicle based on mutual communications between a portable unit and a vehicle-side control unit. After the doors are closed and locked after all the passengers get off the vehicle, the user of a portable unit unlocks the doors in order to allow a person without the portable unit to fetch something left in the vehicle. After the person opens a door, takes whatever he or she needs, and closes the door, the doors are automatically locked. When a door sensor is operated to unlock the doors, and one of the doors is opened, a memory means stores information indicating that the portable unit is present in a predetermined range outside of the vehicle. If the memory means stores information that the doors are unlocked, then the doors are automatically locked.

Automatic door control system and method

A main control ECU of a vehicle unit performs mutual communication with a portable device by external transmitters when respective vehicle doors provided with the automatic open / close function are open. The main control ECU further performs, after ID code matching is confirmed, the mutual communication with the portable device by the external transmitters again after a predetermined time. The main control unit still further performs, when the second matching is not confirmed, mutual communication with the portable device by an internal transmitter. The main control unit automatically closes the vehicle doors when the third matching is not confirmed.

Vehicle door locking systems and control logic for passenger door assemblies

Disclosed are foreign object detection systems with control logic for governing use of vehicle door assemblies, and motor vehicles equipped with such FOD systems and logic. Methods are disclosed for regulating operation of a vehicle door locking mechanism. One method includes a vehicle controller determining the operating status of a control protocol that governs use of the locking mechanism. If the operating status is active, the controller receives sensor signals indicative of a location and / or velocity of an object within the sensor's supervision field. If the object is located within a protected door zone and / or the object's velocity is towards the protected zone, the controller determines whether the locking mechanism is locked or unlocked. If the locking mechanism is locked, the controller commands the locking mechanism to maintain the locked state. Conversely, if the locking mechanism is unlocked, the controller commands the locking mechanism to lock and maintain this state.
