Ischemia detection

Techniques for detection and treatment of myocardial ischemia are described that monitor both the electrical and dynamic mechanical activity of the heart to detect and verify the occurrence of myocardial ischemia in a more reliable manner. The occurrence of myocardial ischemia can be detected by monitoring changes in an electrical signal such as an ECG or EGM, and changes in dynamic mechanical activity of the heart. Dynamic mechanical activity can be represented, for example, by a heart acceleration signal or pressure signal. The electrical signal can be obtained from a set of implanted or external electrodes. The heart acceleration signal can be obtained from an accelerometer or pressure sensor deployed within or near the heart. The techniques correlate contractility changes detected by an accelerometer or pressure sensor with changes in the ST electrogram segment detected by the electrodes to increase the reliability of ischemia detection.

Use of time indexed plethysmographic spectral data in assessing saturation estimation validity

Detector signals in a pulse oximeter are analyzed to determine a quality of the signals in relation to desired information content or artifact content. The analysis involves performing a transform on a signal to obtain frequency related information and analyzing the frequency related information to obtain a value independent of a shape and waveform of a spectrum of the time-based signal. In one implementation, the analysis involves the relative amplitude or power measures of corresponding peaks in the red and infrared spectra. For example, the ratio of the amplitude of the fundamental peak in the red spectrum and the amplitude of the fundamental peak in the infrared spectrum may be tracked over time. In another implementation, the analysis involves consideration of the relative phase of the fundamental and harmonic components of a signal. In either case, signals including desired physiological information can be distinguished from artifact affected signals. Based on this analysis, signals can be validated or an appropriate processing algorithm can be selected.

Location determination for white space utilization

A technique for a wireless device to obtain white space information from a component configured for cellular communication, such as a cellular phone. The wireless device and cellular phone may communicate using a short-range connection, such as a peer-to-peer connection, ensuring that the white space information, which is location based, generated by the cellular phone is also accurate for the location of the wireless device. With such white space information, the wireless device can comply with regulatory requirements for white space use by accessing a regulatory database identifying, by location, available white space channels. When the cellular phone is configured for accessing a wide area network, the cellular telephone may provide the white space information as a set of channels available for white space communication. Channels of the set may be prioritized based on one or more parameters, including frequency, permitted transmit power or detected noise.

Isolated measurement circuit for sensor resistance

A circuit and method is disclosed for measuring the resistance of a resistive sensor, such as a PTC or NTC temperature sensor used for monitoring the temperature of the windings of an electric motor. The measurement circuit is based on an electronic circuit in which conductors from a sensor located in the object to be monitored are connected to an amplifier circuit in a feedback configuration that reduces the DC level supplied to the voltage divider when the sensor resistance increases. The measured signal is amplified and, using a comparator to compare it with the output voltage of a sawtooth generator, a continuous PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) signal is generated and transmitted in digital format to a SELV electronic circuit, for example through an opto-isolator. The essentially logarithmic signal amplification makes it possible to reliably distinguish between a short circuit in the sensor circuit and low values of sensor resistance.
