The present invention describes an attractant formulation for blood-sucking mosquitoes, characterized by its non-unpleasant
odor, composed of
linalool (10-15% v / v),
lactic acid (1-10% v / v),
hexanoic acid (0.1-1% v / v), and
ammonium chloride (0.1-1% v / v). Although
linalool is traditionally a repellent, in combination with these compounds, it acts as a mosquito attractant. This formulation improves the user experience by eliminating strong, unpleasant odors, allowing its use inside homes. The formulation is incorporated into
insect traps by means of a fan that diffuses the mixture. The trap is designed with a pyramidal chamber containing openings for mosquito entry, an
adhesive material on the inner walls, and a mesh that prevents mosquitoes from being drawn into the fan.In
field tests, the trap proved to be as effective as the standard BG-Sentinel trap, but with the
advantage of being more accepted in indoor environments due to its pleasant olfactory profile, which improves its potential for use within homes.
