LED emulation of incandescent bulb brightness and color response to varying power input and dimmer circuit therefor

A lighting system is disclosed. The lighting system includes a first lighting module and a second lighting module connected parallel to the first lighting module. The first lighting module generates light at a first color temperature and the second lighting module generates light at a second color temperature. The first lighting module has a first activation voltage and the second lighting module has a second activation voltage. The two lighting modules generate light when the current flow through them. When input voltage is changed, not only does the amount of current flowing through the two modules change, but also ratio of the amount of current flowing through the two lighting modules changes. The change in the ratio changes the color temperature of the light produced by the lighting system which is a combination of the light produced by the two modules.

Method to minimize instrument differences in color management functions

A method for estimating color measurements of color samples includes printing a color sample based on input data, measuring a color of the printed color sample with an in-line spectral sensor at a first temperature, and estimating a color of the printed color sample which would be output by a reference spectral sensor at a second temperature. The estimation is based on a thermochromatic model which represents relationships between measured colors of printed color samples on the in-line spectral sensor at the first temperature and the reference spectral sensor at the second temperature. The reference spectral sensor is a different type of sensor from the in-line spectral sensor, so the color response of the two spectral sensors is different, even when the measurement conditions are identical. Consequently, a set of printed spot color samples generate different measured colors at the second temperature on the in-line spectral sensor from the reference spectral sensor. The exemplary method allows these differences, as well as measurement temperature differences to be accounted for in the estimation.

Color printer characterization or calibration to correct for spatial non-uniformity

Methods and systems are presented for calibrating or characterizing a color printer or determining the color response of a color printer to combat spatial non-uniformity, in which color patches are printed on a test page according to an input matrix of input color in a printer-dependent-color space and the test page is measured to provide a corresponding output matrix of output color in a printer-independent-color space. Initial forward and inverse color transforms between the input and the output colors are generated based on the input and the output matrices. The output values are mapped to the input color space based on the initial inverse transform to form a feedback matrix, and spatial non-uniformities present in the printed test page are estimated according to noise values derived from the input matrix and the feedback matrix. The input matrix is modified according to the estimated spatial non-uniformity to form a modified input matrix of input color, and final forward and inverse transforms are generated for the color printer according to the modified input matrix and the output matrix.

Creation of reverse look-up table

Creation of a reverse look-up table from a forward look-up table for a color device. Indexes to the forward look-up table span all possible color stimulus values for the color device in a device dependent color space. Outputs from the forward look-up table span a color gamut of corresponding color response values for the color device in a device independent appearance color space. The reverse look-up table maps a color response value in the device independent appearance color space to a color stimulus value in the device dependent color space. Indexes to the reverse look-up table span beyond the color gamut of color response values for the color device, and outputs from the reverse look-up table span beyond all possible color stimulus values for the color device. According to the invention, a first portion of the reverse look-up table, in which indexes fall within the color gamut, is populated by search and interpolation in the forward look-up table for color stimulus values corresponding to color response values of the indexes to the first portion of the reverse look-up table. A second portion of the reverse look-up table, in which indexes fall outside of the color gamut, is populated by extrapolation from extrapolation color stimulus values. The extrapolation color stimulus values are found by search and interpolation in the forward look-up table for color stimulus values corresponding to color response values near a boundary of the color gamut.
