A method and apparatus for full-duplex data communication in or for a wireless communications network, such as a cellular network, PCS network, or mobile satellite network, where a remote feature access control operation utilizes a switch to reserve and route selected voice channels or traffic channels in response to the remote feature access control operation. The method comprising the steps of: configuring a mobile switching center (MSC) to route the selected voice channels to a multi-port protocol converter (MPPC) for transmitting a selected data message on the selected voice channel. Transmitting the selected data message via the multi-port protocol converter on the selected voice channel via a data messaging channel during the remote feature access control operation. Then the selected data message is received at a communicator, which is communicatively linked to a reverse voice and/or digital traffic channel of the wireless network, thereby providing for both forward and reverse messaging on the wireless communications network. An apparatus is disclosed for data communication in or for a wireless communications network for transmitting and receiving both forward and reverse voice, traffic, and control channel messages utilizing the disclosed methodology.

A method for paging network personal communications system voice and data services comprising transmitting a control channel origination data packet including data specifying an identification number, data specifying a user serial number, a voice airtime register data packet, and a sequence of dialed digits for activating a switch to activate a remote feature access control procedure. The control channel origination data packet is then transmitted through control channels or digital access channels of a paging network. The control channel origination data packet is received and stored cellular base station. The control channel origination data packet is relayed to a mobile switching center and then a selected service may be activated if debit information requirements of a user are met by loading and comparing parameter table values for the identification number and the serial number or the user at the mobile switching center. A personal communications apparatus is also disclosed having a housing and circuitry for transmitting a control channel origination data packet. A speaker is mounted in housing and includes a display screen for displaying data messages and a keypad for entering a landline telephone number or mobile number. A plurality of selection keys allow for selecting a data message for transmission from the apparatus.

The wireless PCS has a full digital network interface. The personal communications system facilitates the interconnection and switching of PCS call traffic through the digital network interface and the public switched telephone network, or any switched network. The personal communications system has voice/data/image (or any combination thereof) and incoming and outgoing calling capability. The PCS is fully operational and compatible with any and all modulation approaches selected for wireless communications. The intercell protocol hand-off being provided through distributed logic which is implemented in software that is resident in the intelligent portable handset terminals, in the intelligent fixed terminals, in the intelligent base stations, and in the public switched telephone network (or any switched network). A personal communications system includes an interface unit which transmits calls received on a mobile wireless phone to one or more hard-wired telephones. In one embodiment, the interface unit includes a connector which mates with a voice communications port of a wireless device, which may be a cell phone, web-enabled phone, personal digital assistant adapted for wireless communications, or a so-called pocket PC. When a call is received by the wireless device, a processor automatically sends the call to a hard-wired telephone through the connector. In another embodiment, the interface unit is equipped to receive multiple wireless devices, and calls from each device are managed to prevent calls from two or more of the devices from being sent to the hard-wired telephone at the same time. This system thereby advantageously allows a use only one telephone number to satisfy all his personal communications needs. This translates into significant cost savings to the user in terms of end-of-the-month bills and increased convenience to all concerned. In another embodiment, a removable recording medium stores information (e.g., a user's telephone number) for activating the wireless communications device to receive or place calls through a wireless service provider. The wireless communications device may be integrated, for example, into a hard-wired telephone, wireless device, an appliance, a television, or a car. In another embodiment, a cell phone is programmed to automatically configure, and re-configure, itself to operate using cell phone numbers of different users.

Disclosed is a beam steerable communication apparatus comprising a focusing element with a focal plane, a plurality of antenna elements disposed on the focal plane of the focusing element, a beamforming network which has a plurality of antenna ports and a plurality of beamforming ports, at least one radio frequency transceiver capable to control the phase of carrier frequency signals on its independent outputs, and a baseband modem, wherein each antenna port of the beamforming network is coupled to at least one antenna element, each beamforming port of the beamforming network is coupled to an independent transceiver output, and the phase distribution law formed on the beamforming ports is determined by a baseband modem control commands to the transceivers, said phase distribution law is to combine or distribute signal power on all beamforming ports from or to at least one antenna port of the beamforming network, wherein each radio frequency transceiver includes at least a phase shifter, a Tx/Rx switch, LNA, PA, up and down-conversion mixers, LO generation circuit, receive power combining and transmit power distribution schemes. The technical result of the invention is in the capability of providing efficient beam steering with high gain antennas with all the prospect features of phased antenna arrays, such as the ability to combine/distribute signal power between several RF amplifiers, thus, facilitating linearity requirements and increasing an output power of a transmitter. The present invention can be used, without limitations, in radio relay point-to-point communication systems, e.g. for forming backhaul networks of cellular mobile communication, in car radars and other radars, in local and personal communication systems, in satellite and intersatellite communication systems, etc.

World wide patient location and data telemetry system for implantable medical devices

A system for communicating with a medical device implanted in an ambulatory patient and for locating the patient in order to selectively monitor device function, alter device operating parameters and modes and provide emergency assistance to and communications with a patient. The implanted device includes a telemetry transceiver for communicating data and operating instructions between the implanted device and an external patient communications control device that is either worn by or located in proximity to the patient within the implanted device tranceiving range. The control device preferably includes a communication link with a remote medical support network, a global positioning satellite receiver for receiving positioning data identifying the global position of the control device, and a patient activated link for permitting patient initiated personal communication with the medical support network. A system controller in the control device controls data and voice communications for selectively transmitting patient initiated personal communications and global positioning data to the medical support network, for initiating telemetry out of data and operating commands from the implanted device and transmission of the same to the medical support network, and for receiving and initiating re-programming of the implanted device operating modes and parameters in response to instructions received from the medical support network. The communications link between the medical support network and the patient communications control device may comprise a world wide satellite network, hard-wired telephone network, a cellular telephone network or other personal communications system. Methods and apparatae are also described that enhance the ability of the medical system to find patients and to get reports on patient and medical device status, and even update medical device programming using such facilities, and others described in detail within.
